I just got my D license and am about to start my first season (bought the Skip). Very helpful video, especially your remembering how it was for you when you were new. Also, great explanation of the snap oversteer when downshifting in a bend. I hope you keep making these and thank you.
Thank you! Just dived into my first iRacing purchases and chose the Skippy, couldnt wait to leave the carnage of Mazda Rookie Cup, I pray Skippy is better :)
I drop my tyre pressure to minimum when Qualifying for most courses, they heat up quicker and you get grip sooner. If the course has lots of fast bends you might need more pressure. I increase the pressure for the race to prevent overheating.
Mate thank you. I have messed around with the set up and will upload the race later. Its finally controllable. I'll give you a shout out and a link in the description for sure.
I finally know what these things mean now. I was just downloading setups off of setups4i.racing for my races and ive been doing fine but its true that i was getting more oversteer. Nice informative video.
Had plateaued in skips around 2 seconds off the very best times (after being on iracing a few months). Just used this advice to rethink and same day knocked 0.5 seconds off my Mid Ohio PB and lap consistently 1 second quicker. Have adjusted my own talent rating from ‘low’ to ‘even lower’ accordingly:)
I’d like to see a comparison in lap times between the standard setup and a customised setup. Always been curious if setup changes shave 10’s of thousands off a lap time, or seconds. Thanks for the excellent explanation of the settings.
Nice tutorial, now, i had some issues using the alternative clutch button. Sometimes at race starts i just cannot get into the 1st gear... It already happend 3 times, so i had to go back in pit and change it back to auto clutch. The strange thing is that in practice sessions, i practicing starts and there is no problem at all using the manual clutch. But at official race starts, even with no revs i just cannot get it to 1st. Its a bit weird because i also had 3 good race starts with no problems. Could this be a setting issue?
I’m a bit confused by your comments on brake bias and braking distance. In my mind, base of the forward weight transfer during braking, more front bias should reduce braking distance (of course until you reach the point of lock up). What’s wrong with my thought process?
Hi mate, love your vids. I tend to disagree on the Spring Perch Offset. Now im new to the game (been playing for about two weeks) and I'm running -2 on offset! Track we're slamming around this week is Canadian Tire, which seems like a tracl with lots of high speed, large radius turns. I feel like the Skip Barber loves to drift/powerslide around this track. I feel I can drive the car on the limit with stabby power control, with so much more control overall while sliding, which seems to be how the Skip takes most turns. With +3 SPO the arse of the car was sliding all over the place and it's very hard to keep the car tracking consistently in the direction I was intending. Also, I'm not sure if perching the front up a little more helps to even out the weight distribution and provide more traction in the rear, as the car sits with a nose down attitude anyway. Your thoughts?
You said lowering tire pressure would heat up the tires exponentially much faster. Is this true? Does a small reduction in tire pressure overheat tires by an exponential factor? Or, did you simply mean lower pressures causes tires to heat up more and faster?
Tks for the video, but it was a bit of disappointing to know we need to cheat with the clutch to get a good lap time. I joined iracing understanding that would be the most realistic simulator in the market and now i find that we have to do a computer trick with the clutch to be fast, that's sad
Thanks however it's not a trick. Paddle shift clutch is a real thing. Nowadays I have a proper wheel and I have 4 shifters on the rear of my wheel. I just mapped a button back then as my clutch was just bad and throw was too long.
Love finding old videos like this that still have applicable info. Thank you mate

Is there a better setting for speed, drafting or acceleration?
A very informative video, thanks!
Super helpful
I think the stock setup has been updated since you made this video, my 'stock' is actually quite close to your recommendations
Excellent Video..Thanks man..

Interesting that the baseline has changed somewhat since this video.
Today it's 54% bias, 25psi all round, 5 SPO and 6 ARB.

Thanks for the Sub... any idea how to get the Sausage curbs back?.... I know its a known issue but I'm not using VR
skip barber seems to be becoming limestone ha ha great video david!!
Haha, great car! 👍🏻
