Hurricane Sandy | Timelapse of the Storm from The New York Times Building | The New York Times
/ thenewyorktimes
the best part about hurrican sandy was that we got a whole week off from school thanks to mayor bloomburg
Benjamin Goldstein 😂
Benjamin Goldstein lol ikr
I wish we still were in sandy cuz I hate school
+ Benjamin Goldstein
Storms usually love schoolchildren. ;)
5 years later we all get months off from school. .... Corona
I was in that storm. It was my first visit to New York from England. I think me and my two friends I went with where the only ones happy about the storm. We were supposed to be flying back home and back to work but our flight was cancelled due to the weather. So we had to email our bosses and say that we had to stay in New York for another couple of days. It was great :D. We just bought loads of booze and got drunk in our friends apartment. Ah the memories :)
✞ MerseysideisRed ✞ Why the hate? My fellow Merseyside resident?
+Steve Furn sounds fun!
Steve Furn it depends what part of New York you were in I was in lower Manhattan so it was anything but fun for me
thats awesome dude
I was at CUNY John Jay College, North Hall on 59th and 10th the day the huge storm hit NYC.
An interesting thing about this time lapse is that the camera is facing east. Due to the jet stream, the weather almost always passes over New York City from west to east, which means that the clouds are normally moving away from the camera view. Atlantic hurricanes spin counter-clockwise and that's why in the beginning of the video the clouds are moving from left to right - an unusual site for anyone native to the Tri-state area.
imagine the clouds were actually moving that fast? :●
+Mr Dilrd
As it happens in Dragon Ball Z episodes.
then the world over
6:09
Is it just me or does NYC look beautiful, even if it's in the hurricane?
6:09
This city is still beautiful, even if Hurricane Sandy hit.
This is what immortality looks like.
hi
Amazing footage
even more amazing how people were still driving around during its peak!
Yeah, but do you see how fast they’re driving?!😆
I had a smoke in the winds crazy feeling
Wow. My beautiful New York had to go through sucha horrific event. Everyone stat safe and you are in my prayers.
Hey person from 8 years ago how is 2012?
It was amazing how you could see sections of the city experiencing power outages, like at around 1:53. I can't tell if the lights were flickering across the river or if that was just clouds blocking the view.
I thought all the power went out?
***** Oh..I've watched videos where the power went out in Manhattan and then finally the new WTC's did
well look at the middle right part of the shot @1:55
This test of the Russian climate weapon. This is for sanctions expect to continue
Just south manhattan because of an explosion even though there power is underground
Wow! That was amazing footage of a very angry sky! God Bless NYC and NJ! The aftermath is almost always worse than the storm itself! :-(
I was in hurricane sandy in New Jersey my family lost power it was scary
30 Second Clips quit your bitchin. The kid has a right to say he was scared. Jusst because he didnt lose someone in the storm, doesnt mean he can't be scared.
You all wanna take a trip down to New Orleans and see what it was like for is there that'll shut your bitchin up.
+Bonzi Buddy hey, he couldve lost a family member and its better that he didnt. why are you so triggered? he didnt do anything wrong
L'obscurité Orleans wasn't hit by sandy lol
L'obscurité i thought Katrina hit New Orleans
Hurricane vs New York can't stand a Chance. New York City Wins yay
+ Darrius Elder New York is superheroes city. No menace can throw its weight around. The Big Apple is the strongest one, the Forbidden Fruit is paling in comparison. 😂😂
Not in movies...
@@skyarrowmedia4536 umm we had a category 5 on Friday
F Ø X Ÿ Ł Õ V Ë R Dorian wasn’t even really near NYC, and it wasn’t even a category 5 when it reached up north. New York struggled with Sandy and that was relatively weak compared to other storms.
ExcitementWorld you don’t know where I live
This makes sandy look like a tropical storm than a hurricane
I cant 'like' this video, but in terms of being able to actually see the ocean rise, and the 'blades' of the hurricane, this video is Priceless. Historic. Perfect storm come to life...
I was 4 when it was happening and the thing is, I went outside to play ;-; (I went inside because I got caught like 3 seconds after) 😂
Daily PearlStone lol
Happy 10th Anniversary Hurricane Sandy! 2012-2022 🌀 🥳 🎉 🪅 🎊 🍺 🍻 🥳
Oh mah GAWD I don't live in new York but my cousin dose and IT REALLY LOOKED LIKE THAT!!!!!!????
I remember this... good times.
Weird that the sun was shining on the Wednesday! True meaning of calm after the storm!
Lol isn’t the saying actually “the calm before the storm” ..
The only good thing about hurricanes is that they cut off our school time :D
Thank you so much for sharing. This was really cool to watch the differences in the direction of the clouds and rain. Very good thinking. :)
i was there in new york city when hurricane sandy came in 2012 on october i think i really forgot , Everythin was fine only trees came down and one almost fell on my aunts car and it was just breezy and we lost power for atleast 1 week.!! And that is it we did not have floods! Everyone stayed in side our house!:) Thank u god that no body died!:)
South Brooklyn .... Coney Island right next to the ocean .. had the time of my life
Even though the storm caused so much destruction this video was well taken. My prays are for every one in the country that got hit by Sandy.
1:52 lights go out
Nature... It's furious as well as it's gracious.
I was in the storm when I was 5 years old and ever since then I’m scared of thunder and lighting, even though I’m almost 12, it affected me pretty badly.
Goodness that was beautiful. Thank you!!
so you are saying that you would had wanted something to happen to the city and the people in it??... thank you man, love you too.
that is our summer here in Ireland..
wednesday 2:04 is when the hurricane ended i geuss :/
Wow. Nature right there. Just the reddish part at the beginning freaks me out. Big mega cities like that to
It was awesome to drive. 0 traffic everywhere.
I visited NYC for the first time a day after this video ends, and the power was still out in parts of Manhattan - was eerie to see at night!
The best part is seeing the clouds change directions.
I'm so glad I did this. Thank you.
I was in 5th grade when this happened and still remember how the bad the jersey shore was after sandy....
I’m currently a junior in high school
Looks like a typical Manchester weekend!
The clouds changed direction during the storm....neat.
I've never realized how heavenly sunlight is.
If you look at the sky, it looks like New York is Moving :O
That's was awesome.
I remember that hurricane like it was yesterday
Nice video, thumbs up. Cheers from sunny Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
Three weeks and still have tree trucks everywhere... My family had a giant 80 ft pine fall....we also waited in a five hour gas line
That was a hell of hurricane. made all new yorkers forget about a massive alien invasion commanded by Loki.
the city looks so nice man what a nice view
New York at light is beautifull
The beauty to all that tempest as filmed is flummoxing.
Wow that sat over them for 3 days. I live in Florida and hurricane Frances sat over us for 3 days and pounded us. I know how that feels. I didn't have electricity for a month.
As a survivor of this storm I’d say it was terrifying
AbGamingPlaz/Crazyperson123456/AlphaClan you guys are very fortunate I live in Florida We gotta show we get hurricanes numerous times
This looks cool
wow look how much rain there is.
It was extremely scary for people in NY because we almost never have these bad storms.
NYC doesn't but other places in NY does
Thts Crazy But Beautiful
Whoa, what a trip.
i go to school in lower manhattan and we had no electricity for a week. couldn't find food either. it was worse than we all expected. school was out that whole week
Have you seen the news coverage? Sure it wasn't as catastrophic as a 7.9 earthquake or as terrible as a Tsunami that might have wiped the city clean....But, it did make an impact that has changed so many areas in the city, and around the east coast states.
Yeah, I had school out for a week and a half and no power for 14 days and the storm happened the day before my birthday. What a 16th birthday, right?
If U forget that its a storm and dat there are clouds floating above, to me it looked like the city was flying thru the clouds! Haha! Dats wat it looked like to me! :P
you have a spectacular sense of imagination. Thumbs up to you.
I was at my window talking with my friend when the power went in lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn...It was terrifying. My building swayed so much the water in the tub was sloshing back and forth...
This is an ill time lapse...
This view faces east looking towards Queens. You can actually see the cloud bands switch around from northeast/southwest to southeast/northwest as the center of circulation passes by early Monday. And you can see when part of the east side of Manhattan loses power at about 8:30pm on Monday.
looks like typical british weather hahah
I remember hurricane sandy, I got flooded, and once it says Tuesday 12:00 a.m., its about to get bad.
hurrican sandy is the best i was rooting for the hurricane, i want to be in her eye
Monday was my birthday. A storm on my b day
Amazing nice job!!!
Cool time lapse video...!
I have a question for anyone who has lived in NY their whole life. With all that light pollution have you ever seen a star in the night sky?
impressive video...thanks TNY
This video is SO cool ! At 2:57 it looks like our planet Earth is travelling on a bumpy ride through time and space in a time vortex or black hole (when night falls) and at 4:10 and 10 seconds forward, we're about to reach our destination. Did anyone else experience this? :-)
All the light makes the night sky orange.
No, Freedom Tower is in Lower Manhattan, which isn't shown.
Those strange booms sounds are called thunder.
I was like 5 or 6 when this happened
Timelapse on Empire state building still be so beautiful, esepcially when the sun comes out.
Wish we had another hurricane to have another week vacation 😉
dam so much power went off
This is probably ONE of the only major hurricanes that have hit the diagonal line from Philadelphia-NYC Area.
The power out you saw that was the sector in Lexington Av. The subway lines that run under we're without power and they had to give subway shuttle buses in that area.
No there was strange boom sounds, not just thunder. Look up ''strange boom sounds 2013''. it happened in many states
This could be a sign of the 2012 phenomenon!
amazin city
The best weather recording which can be made from ground weather station.
That's because the camera is so high.Trees and power lines fell, underground subway systems were COMPLETELY flooded, a crane snapped and hung dangerously atop a skyscraper and obviously people's homes and cars were destroyed so yea it was pretty bad....
I've seen some videos of Hurricane Sandy. I know it is a hurricane but don't see any rain or wind. I am in that same city.
Its actually extra tropical as it made landfall
You know some of the poorest people died of heatstroke and others during July power outage! Some of the poorest areas suffered the most and no one had a telethon for us! Being without power and without water for 11 days in 104 record heat with humidity was just as bad. You can rebuild homes you can't rebuild your family!
My dad was there..for work
I rode my bike home from work during that storm . I asked my coworker for a ride and he acted like i was bothering him or owed him money . I made it through by myself although extremely wet and cold .
We didn't have school for two weeks in nj and had to have the army core of engineers come to try and fix our transformers... We lost power for
Hurricane Katrina: media outrage against the president.
Hurricane sandy: no media outrage against the president.
What a double standard!
What happened to the lights on the Empire State Building at 0:44?
They cut it off at 2:00A.M.
Oh.
That is a hurricane... what are you expecting? A tornado? Guess you don't know what a hurricane is like...
1:50 (Monday 8pm) right side of screen the lights go off.
Hurricane Sandy Appears!
1:53 there went the power for a quarter of the city :P
😢
i agree
