  • In this video, I’ll be showing you how to paint a tree of life with a sunset.
    This is a good lesson for beginners and up!
    I’m painting on a 16x20 in stretched canvas, but you can paint on any type and size of canvas you like.
    The brushes I use are:
    • A two-inch flat brush
    • A one-inch flat brush
    • A half-inch angle brush
    • A 3/8 inch angle brush
    • A #0 liner brush
    I’m using Liquitex Basics paints in the following colors:
    • Titanium White
    • Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue
    • Cadmium Red Light Hue
    • Cadmium Red Deep Hue
    • Dioxazine Purple
    • Mars Black

    OMG! I adore you Jane! i painted your sunflower against a red fence yesterday and today i am watching this one, getting ready to lay down some super fine lines...i need practice with my trees in general and brush control more specifically. But your comment about how if someone tells you your tree doesn't look right, then tell them to go paint one so you can pick it apart? YES YES YES to this, and no i would never do that to anyone but have had people critique (read that as critically pick apart) some of my techniques...I think i do pretty darn good for someone who only started painting for the first time ever in October of this year. So boo to the naysayers and YAY to people like you who make me KNOW that i can do this. Thank you for all your videos and cant wait to learn more from you.

    jane I am loving your videos and I love this tree. you explain things in detail and it doesn't matter if we mess up. we can clean it up. I cant imagine you shouting at your painting, as you sound so calm and collected. lol art hugs ginxxx

      +dottygin Thank you, Gin! I figured that it was better for me to show you that everyone makes mistakes and how to fix them than to edit them out and make you feel self-conscious about them. :) But trust me, I spend plenty of time screaming at paint, lol!!

And this makes me think of the Family tree which has so many branches on it ..it is crazy. Also I am into DNA which also represents this tree to me. Also...I love the song played during this one. :D Thank you so much.

    I really have to say, personally I dont like the curviness of your tree, but as you said in a much nicer way, I dont have a tree for you to critique. That being said I LOVE HOW DETAILED YOU WERE WITH EXPLAINING THINGS! I subbed the second you zoomed in real close. More people need to show that detail in their vids and I totally commend you for it! I haven't checked out your other vids yet cause I'm writing this lol, but I hope u have a few that r fully up close. If not, I'd love to see one like that. Maybe go through the brushes you use and the techniques you use with them. I know that would help me because I cant find anyone doing it. Anyway much love. Hi Jane!!!! Love it!!! I will post it on your FB page when I m done. Just a thing I wanted to tell you cos you are the expert!!!! A few weeks ago, I saw your video about how to fix canvas, and I have two different results. I use the water, for a new one, that looks just like yours in this video, and it worked great!!! And I tried to fix another one , already painted, and it doesnt work. I think that when the acrylic dries, dont let the canvas to be tight ...I mean, the dry acrylic dont let the whatever material the canvas is made (LOL) to move .... It is just my experience. that make any sense to you?

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Janice Elaine Scarcella Thank you, Janice! Interesting. I wonder if it depends on the thickness of the paint or the type of canvas. I've restretched painted canvases before and been fine. I'm sure it also depends on the degree to which the canvas needs to be shrunk back down. Thanks for your feedback :D

    How to you get the paint to "stay" on your brush, for example when painting the tree, when I paint, the black paint runs out from my brush really quickly and I have to dip it in paint again which ruins the smooth flow of the tree branch

    • @PaintingwithJane
      @PaintingwithJane  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you using a little bit of water on your brush? Also, make sure you're actually squishing the brush into the paint, don't just dip it. Paint on just the outside edge of the brush isn't going to go far. Check out this video and see if it helps :) th-cam.com/video/OXRQY3OBCT8/w-d-xo.html

      I dunno. It's royalty-free music, so it's possible someone else has used it somewhere. There's always a link in the description to where you can download the music for free :)

      It's Gnossienne #1, by French Composer, Erik Satie. He composed about 6 of them, my favorite being #4, closely followed by this one featured in Jane's video. Good choice, Jane!
