      It's the basis of all community and society. For they can be no society without hierarchy of power. The only different is what each society see as power. You can build a society where kindness is power and the most kind people of that society will hold and enjoy the privilege of power and will abuse it. Be it birth, wealth, virtue, knowledge, etc.
      If power can derived from it then it will all be the same. Even if the society establish that those who do not want power is good, then he who doesn't want power will hold the power and abuse it. It is simply natural.

    Whenever a radical feminist claims that women with power would never abuse it like men often do i think of this singular lady as a counterargument.

    • @itsMalma
      @itsMalma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      I disagree that women in power wouldn't abuse it but it's ironic that were using this case to prove that bc:
      'But Bathory’s case may not have been that cut and dry; in fact, some Hungarian scholars say it may have been motivated more by others’ power and greed than her supposed evil. It turns out that King Matthias II owed Bathory’s late husband, and then her, a sizable debt. Matthias was not inclined to pay that debt, which historians say may have fueled his move to incriminate the countess and deny her the opportunity to defend herself in court.
      Likewise, some historians say that witnesses probably provided the incriminating - yet contradictory - testimony under duress and that the king called for the death penalty before Bathory’s family could intervene on her behalf. This too may have been politically motivated, as the death penalty meant that the king could seize her land.
      Perhaps, historians say, the true story of Elizabeth Bathory looks more like this: The countess owned strategically important land that increased her family’s already vast wealth. As an intelligent, powerful woman who ruled without a man at her side, and as a member of a family whose wealth intimidated the king, his court went on a mission to discredit and ruin her.
      The best case scenario is that Bathory abused her servants but came nowhere near the level of violence alleged at her trial. Worst case? She was a bloodsucking demon sent from hell to murder virgins. Both make a for a good story - even if only one of them is actually true.'

    Going all in on vampires. But how's about a werewolf? The Beast of Gévaudan, AKA the man-eating animal that terrorized southern France and inspired half of what we see in modern werewolf fantasy.

    • @f145hr3831jr
      @f145hr3831jr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Recent research revealed that this beast was most likely a hybrid monstrosity resulting from crossbreeding exotic predators and specifically bred to be sicced on peasants to terrorize them. Clues include:
      - peasants saw wolves several times a week and knew how to deal with them, so something they called a "beast" definitely wasn't a wolf;
      - several recorded testimonies mention the Beast running through flocks of sheeps to kill the herder, a totally inconceivable behaviour for a wild predator;
      - more recorded testimonies mention the Beast shrugging off direct gunfire, it most likely had some form of body armor;
      - it also came back in perfect condition several days after suffering serious injuries, so it was most likely patched up by a human;
      - all these events happened after nobles lost most of their priviledges to use the peasants as their playthings with impunity and were still bitter about it;
      - the Beast was finally killed by a hunter to which it opposed no resistance, as if it knew and trusted the man.

    The ironic part is that new developments in the studying of aging, it does seem that due to the regulatory RNA released by stem cells, linking bloodstreams with a younger individual does seem to heal age-related problems while aging the younger individual to a net middle ground between the two individuals. Granted these are mice tests but it's not like aging is a rat exclusive disease rofl

    • @livedandletdie
      @livedandletdie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's only temporary though, as the body of the older person, still doesn't retain youth, while the younger body will regain it's youthful properties after a while again.
      If you really wanted to have it be continuous you'd have to do it regularly, and to make sure that it's a healthy procedure for the one person you're deaging, you'd have to rely on clones, and if you'd want to do that, then just introducing fetal stemcells from a cloned embryo, would do the trick even better. You could deage someone for much longer, and reinvigorate them a lot more.

    • @merikmalhads1676
      @merikmalhads1676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@livedandletdie That's the interesting part. The original hypothesis with aging was that the shortening of telomeres eventually leads to the degradation of important genetic material but new studies indicate that the aging issue comes on an epigenetic rather than a genetic level. This means that it is in fact possible to de-age someone with use of specific chemistry. I mean ultimately the linked bloodstreams method does work but it's incredibly crude and also not super ethically sound.... although if you needed me to say that you might in fact be a sociopath rofl

    Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu was the character that was actually based on Elizabeth Bathory. Carmilla predates Dracula, and served as inspiration for Bram Stoker while he was writing the novel.
    Dracula was not directly based on Elizabeth Bathory, however.

    I have a couple lines to add to the speculation on her innocence.
    Dozens of nobleborn girls going missing around her gynaesium wouldn't go unoticed. And no matter how powerful she might have been, she had enemies, who could use that against her. In a time were record keeping was poor to nonexistent, it would be easy to just make shit up.
    And the common punishment for withcraft is burning at the stake, though Bathory was a protestant. Taking the Salem witch trials into account, it seems protestants and catholics both loved to roast some hoes from time to time. However, condemning an innocent to death was a huge deal for inquisitors. It basically condemned their souls to damnation with no chance for redemption. So Bathory, despite aledgedly killing between 80 and 650 people, got to live off the rest of her life, nearly 4 years, under house arrest. Then again, it could be because she was of noble birth.
    And another piece to the puzzle is that she was buried in hallowed ground. Again, she's a protestant, so the rules are kinda different. But taking catholic tradition to finish this conjecture, Herectics were not allowed to be buried under halowed ground. She was buried at the cemetery of the church of Csejte, which villagers didn't like, so her body was eventually moved to the Bathory crypt in her birth town.
