It wasn't until I was in college that I ended up realizing I had fallen for a friend and now 8 years later, we're still together. Who knows what Joey's future has in store.
While I was watching the video I totally thought about this, at least in the face of this analysis, the things that the narrator was saying totally fit under the aro spectrum, and how he likes "the idea of being in love" or being in love in theory, fits the definition of lithromantic, so 100% agree with you
Barney is a straight up psychopath. If you think about it... is enjoying sex even a priority to Barney? He actually does not make an impression of a person who enjoys sex, he sees it as a sport, always competing with... himself, mostly. Joey is much more relatable, he's just a man who enjoys simple things in life and is charming enough to get girls regularly.
I saw How I Met Your Mother BEFORE I saw F.R.I.E.N.D.S. so when I heard that "Joey is a player" and then finally saw his character in action, I was like, "yeeeeeeah, man, this is so damn tame compared to Barney."
Adnan Amin phoebe is very complex, yes. But I feel like they shouldn’t have made her so self involved. It kinda pissed me off about her character. Just like Ross and his whining.
@@romeostruedude she literally forces her friends to change their decisions to fit her views. EX .. getting mad at Rachel for getting a massage, and shopping at a store she doesn't like. She is also a hypocrite. Turned out she worked at the place. She ended up buying stuff from the same store. She wore a fur. She ate meat at joey's expense. She basically has all these rules and codes she claims to value, but drops and picks up again depending on what she feels like doing. I'd you think she's genuinely good then you fell for her many many lies.
Yeah., well, ....she actually was really mean to Chandler the entire tv show coz she thought he was lame and she always tried to get him and Monica fight or split up so......she's really vicious from time to time But overall she is a nice person ))
I love Joey:) He is truly a sweetheart. He proposed to both Phoebe and Rachel respectively when he taught they were pregnant and alone. That melted my heart to how pure his platonic love for his friends was.
I always felt Joey was the most selfless character on the show, he went above and beyond in his friendships and took his friends feelings into consideration before his own. Phoebe didn't want him to date Ursula, he broke up with Kathy for Chandler, he broke up with Janine because Monica and Chandler didn't like her, he put his feelings for Rachel aside because he didn't want to hurt Ross, when he started earning more money and wanted to get his own apartment he was made to feel guilty, when he was making his first movie (which he had waited years to get) he was preoccupied with officiating Monica and Chandler's wedding. What's really so unfair is that in the end he was the only one alone while the others moved on. Joey is someone that actually should have been more selfish and put himself first for a change.
Joey is the most attractive of the Friends to me. He's a good guy to his friends, and that's what got me. I actually thought he was really sweet when he was with Rachel. And yeah, attraction comes out of close friendship for me. The way Joey usually comes onto women? Ironically, that does not work for me.
I think the writers should have written to where the story was taking them instead of being stuck with Ross and Rachel. After Joey's proposal is when they messed it up... I wish they had written it so that Rachel slowly realizes that she loves him and they (Joey and Rachel and Emma) go off the LA.. giving ross time to heal and Rachel realizing that she has actually got the true nice guy instead of the "nice guy/geek in love with popular girl trope". It would have been a more satisfying ending.. and actually more believable in reality! Sometimes we are mistaken in love, obsession.. And the most precious virtuous character (who upholds friendship above all else) is rewarded.
YES! This is the one I was waiting for. Thank you screenprism for your continued thoughtful and insightful analysis regarding the show. It's always incredibly fun to watch.
faisal1979m I'd argue it'd be more along the lines of "the independent friend". She survived a very hard youth, prides herself on her not relying on anyone, doesn't commit to a relationship til Mike -well into her thirties-, lives alone most of the show and is the raw strength of the group - both physically and emotionally.
What people don’t understand about Joey’s sleaziness with women is the he isn’t being childish about not being able to commit to a relationship, it’s because anytime he truly puts himself out there he gets hurt. When he bring home a women and Rachel gets him to really try to get into a relationship with her she ends up saying that SHE isn’t looking for a a serious relationship. When he falls for Kate ( the women from the play) she rejects him at first, then when they sleep together she doesn’t want to take it anywhere, finally after they truly fall for each other she leaves When he falls for Rachel and tells Ross it makes him think that he hates him because he was still in love with her. He then tells her and she doesn’t feel the same way, then when they get together they just can’t become more than friends So I don’t say Joey is being childishly rude for not getting into serious relationships, he just learns from his bad experiences
This is an interesting point, and to dig a little deeper it doesn’t necessarily contradict what The Take is getting at. Joey has a pattern of going for women in situations where the relationship is likely to fail from the very beginning. He falls for Kate despite her already being in another relationship and initially being clear that she’s not interested in him. He falls for Ursula, Phoebe’s estranged sister, whom he knows Phoebe has years of unresolved tension with. He continues to pursue her despite knowing he would pick Phoebe over Ursula because his friendship with her means more than a potential romance with Ursula. He does the same thing with Rachel and ends up prioritizing Ross’s feelings over his own towards Rachel multiple times. He pursues Janine despite his friends telling him it’s a bad idea to date a roommate. He dates Charlie who’s significantly more compatible with Ross, and Kathy who’s more compatible with Chandler. While I agree that he does get hurt in most of the relationships he seriously pursues, I can’t help but wonder whether he subconsciously goes for women things are unlikely to work out with because he’s not ready for the responsibility and commitment a relationship requires.
Fact: Joey's character was initially a jerk. But Mat Leblanc thought nobody would like to be a friend with a jerk. So they changed it to what we have seen on the show
GODDAMN!! After understanding that Joey values his friends WAY more than getting in a relationship with a woman, the scene of him and Rachel deciding not to continue hurts harder now when you look at the way he says "I don't think they weren't as good friends as we are", He is saying it so heartbroken that you see he truly wants to be with Rachel but can't stand the idea of hurting a friend
Sometimes, I feel like I'm Joey. Here are the reasons why: - I sometimes don't share my food. - Even though I am a teenager, I still watch kid's shows to this day. - I sometimes suck at lying. - I sometimes forget stuff. - Whenever my friends have a conversation with each other and I don't understand what they are saying, I just roll with it and agree. - I don't care if I would have a girlfriend or wife, the only thing that cares is the happiness I give to both my friends and family.
Omg I can’t wait to see Phoebe’s episode, she’s the one who had the hardest life but she still managed to get over all the shit she has been through, also she has the kindest heart, and we can see that when she had her brother’s babies for him.
Some of Joey's best words♥️ Hey, can I ask you something? In this, in this picture of you and your wife, is your wife Rachel? That’s okay Ross maybe you need a new picture. Okay? It’s not gonna be what you thought, but no matter what there’s gonna be a brand new little baby, your baby. Who cares what the picture looks like? They have a kid together, y'know. They’re like, they’re like a family, and if, I don’t know, there’s chance they could make that work, I know I wouldn’t want to be the guy who stood in the way of that. What about her? They've only been going out for two weeks. Ross has been in love with you for like 10 years. Look, Rach, Rach! I've been with my share of women. In fact, I've been with like a lot of people's share of women. The point is, I've never felt about anyone the way Ross felt about you. Chandler: How can I not be upset? Okay? I finally fall in love with this fantastic woman and it turns out that she wanted you first! Joey: Yeah for like a half an hour one night! Chandler, she wants you for the rest of her life! You’re so lucky! Look what I missed out on by not being there! Although you know what? It could never have worked like you guys did, ‘cause you guys are perfect for each other. Y’know, we look at you and-and we see you together and it just…it-it fits. Y’know? And you just know it’s gonna last forever.
Great video, tho about him looking 'sleazy' in today's standards i don't entirely see it, it's pretty harmless in way that even new young viewers watching Friends now don't seem to notice that he's 'sleazy'. At least not like Barney from HIMYM. Joey is boyishly foolish and charming that u'd feel bad for him about his immaturity rather than offended.
While there’s nothing wrong with casual sex, the women he slept with weren’t always aware it was casual. It’s dishonest to convince someone you care about them, sleep with them, and never call them back. Not to mention he constantly objectifies women instead of seeing them as individuals. He’s a pig.
Ehhh It’s pretty clear he knows what he’s doing with his dates, he just doesn’t care. And sure, he cares about women who happen to be his friends/family, but so do most guys. I’m personally not a big fan of the “protect the women in your life but all others are fair game” way of thinking lol, it seems a bit hypocritical. Agree to disagree, though.
You forgot that Joey was the one who indirectly taught Rachel the “Western Europe” story, resulting in Emma’s conception and the solidification of Ross and Rachel’s bond.
I disagree with this! I actually love the fact that my girlfriend wants my food and I am more than happy to share.. then we can just order some more! or even better I cook for her!! anything she fancy!
I can't wait for Phoebe's video. She is wonderfully weird, unique but always looks at the bright side of things. There is so much of her life that not even the others in the group know about and despite all the challenges she had over the course of her life, unlike Chandler. She always stayed positive and tried her best to be her own person, never be someone she wasn't and didn't really apologized for who she is. I think she is the one who reminds us to do the stuff you love and to just be yourself.
Heck yes ScreenPrism! Don't have time to watch this now but just leaving a comment saying thanks for the Friends videos and I'll give this a watch later and give you my thoughts on it.

Joey is the sweetest, most loyal, and most childish friend you could ever ask for... And i honestly believe that girl in the hospital where Ben was born, was the one for Joey.
I think I just teared up a little. Joey is that one friend I strive to have in my life. The one friend that is the first to step up in a crisis, the first one to defend me when I’m defenceless, the one that loves and lives and most importantly, teaches you how important it is to not share food!! I would’ve loved Joey and Rachel to have ended up together, the girl JOEY would choose to fall in love with, given the type of PERSON (as a whole, not just concentrated on his past history w other women) he is, THAT GIRL WOULD HAVE BEEN THE LUCKIEST GIRL IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD and we know it from how much he has loved Rachel. Rachel was so lucky omg, but she couldn’t keep the best man she could have ever had. Lastly, the little Joey room in Chandler and Monica’s little apartment. Could it BE any more emotional? Fuck I think I’m gonna cry 😭
I never had friends as close as those in FRIEND but I think I might be a mix of Joey and Phoebe. I tend to be the ever-child-like one who values friendship aspect of a relationship more than romance or sex (i've never been in a relationship yet but i know this much), and I am a bit of an positive oddball but has an unexpected edge.
I know a lot of people say I CRIED even when they didn't. But I seriously did cry. Thank you so much for this video. I'm crying like a baby right now :'(
I've been watching the show since 1994 and watching this, it's made me see how good he really is... Him and Chandler were always my fav friendship but the way he loves them all is just beautiful
Idk why people keep telling Joey has never been in a long term relation. I keep remembering that episode where he has to buy a gift for Kathy and Chandler mentions a 3-year relationship he has been in. I know its the butt of a joke but still counts as a long term relationship.
I don't think Joey being a player is inappropriate for today, it's not like he ever pushes consent boundaries. He's just living his best life. I love Joey so much 🥰
Excellent discussion. I want to make something about the show's structure in terms of the three couples in relation to centuries of Western drama/comedy: Ross-Rachel as the structural moral center, Monica-Chandler as their parallel satellite and foil, and Phoebe-Joey as the comic servants, Greek chorus, and wise fools.
Joey is Epicurean!!! He's not too ambitious, enjoys the simple pleasures of life like food, doesn't seek romantic relationship and the drama that stems from them, and keeps his friends close to him. So yeah, according to this philosophy, Joey would have already found happiness at the start of the series, that's why he doesn't need to change.
These Friends character analyses are so good and insightful. Makes me want to rewatch Friends. right now now. I wonder if you'll do a Take on "Supernatural" after it ends next year. Grand stuff!

I used to think "OMG he's such a player", then I saw Barney Stinson. Joey looks really good by comparison.
Shauna Mother of Penguins yeah I mean Barney has a flipping playbook
HIMYM stole many ideas from FRIENDS so..
@@shakshi_ you just smcsnt sit through more than 3 seasons of himym if you started out with friends. That's my experience.
Out of all the friends. Phoebe is the most complex friend. She has a very sad history, and shes the most optimistic and whole hearted person
@@farahshaheen7657 And Rachel's meanness, being unfair, inconsiderate, callous etc etc
But she doesn't miss a single opportunity to leverage her sad back-story to her advantage
Yeah., well, ....she actually was really mean to Chandler the entire tv show coz she thought he was lame and she always tried to get him and Monica fight or split up so......she's really vicious from time to time
But overall she is a nice person ))
I love Joey:) He is truly a sweetheart. He proposed to both Phoebe and Rachel respectively when he taught they were pregnant and alone. That melted my heart to how pure his platonic love for his friends was.
right! now tell me if that is child play?
Also, he was willing to marry Pheobe/Rachel when he thought they were pregnant out of wedlock.
Joey is the most attractive of the Friends to me. He's a good guy to his friends, and that's what got me. I actually thought he was really sweet when he was with Rachel. And yeah, attraction comes out of close friendship for me. The way Joey usually comes onto women? Ironically, that does not work for me.
i also enjoyed when joey was with rachel... is almost as if she was his first romantic love (and they truly are one of the closest friends)
Can not agree more- I strive to have friends like Joey
Become that friend yourself.
Thumbs up voting for next analysis (Phoebe the eccentric Friend) share us your point of view
faisal1979m I'd argue it'd be more along the lines of "the independent friend". She survived a very hard youth, prides herself on her not relying on anyone, doesn't commit to a relationship til Mike -well into her thirties-, lives alone most of the show and is the raw strength of the group - both physically and emotionally.
We also need to hear about her covert genius traits
What people don’t understand about Joey’s sleaziness with women is the he isn’t being childish about not being able to commit to a relationship, it’s because anytime he truly puts himself out there he gets hurt.
When he bring home a women and Rachel gets him to really try to get into a relationship with her she ends up saying that SHE isn’t looking for a a serious relationship.
When he falls for Kate ( the women from the play) she rejects him at first, then when they sleep together she doesn’t want to take it anywhere, finally after they truly fall for each other she leaves
When he falls for Rachel and tells Ross it makes him think that he hates him because he was still in love with her. He then tells her and she doesn’t feel the same way, then when they get together they just can’t become more than friends
So I don’t say Joey is being childishly rude for not getting into serious relationships, he just learns from his bad experiences
I totally agree with this.
Dont forget ursula
While I agree that he does get hurt in most of the relationships he seriously pursues, I can’t help but wonder whether he subconsciously goes for women things are unlikely to work out with because he’s not ready for the responsibility and commitment a relationship requires.
the much awaited video is here ❤
No, thats the one with Phoebe xD
Fact: Joey's character was initially a jerk. But Mat Leblanc thought nobody would like to be a friend with a jerk. So they changed it to what we have seen on the show
JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD!!!!
Best line EVER
Here are the reasons why:
- I sometimes don't share my food.
Same
hes so me 😫 i relate to him the most in the show
Bro, you're teenager, shut up
Omg I can’t wait to see Phoebe’s episode, she’s the one who had the hardest life but she still managed to get over all the shit she has been through, also she has the kindest heart, and we can see that when she had her brother’s babies for him.
Phoebe episodes. CLICK what else is on
Some of Joey's best words♥️
Hey, can I ask you something?
Some of these are sooooo cheesy
People can barely recite scriptures ,but friends ,we can always quote with even the scenes playing in ur head
Ironically, Ross and Rachel had a kid together, and he DID become the guy who stood in the way of that
i never thought i'd cry watching a video about joey tribbiani being way too sweet for our world
he’s the sweetest bean, protect him at all costs
Truly the heart of friends. I love how chandler and monica treat him as their own child. He also gives the best advice when its necessary.
Diana A I agree with you, he's even cute and clumsy as he tries so hard 😅
Diana A Yeah, I don't think so either. People get offended waay too much these days.
I had no Idea that someone could actually see Joey as a sleazy character. Very easily offended.
Hey Susannah.
How u doin'?
Lord Reyne of Castemere And now the rains weep over his halls!!
we are doing just fine honey ..

" look at me! im chandler! could i BE wearing anymore clothes?"

*_Joey = The Heart & Soul Of FRIENDS.. ♥️_*
*_He's The Best Of Them Of All.. ♥️_*
You forgot that Joey was the one who indirectly taught Rachel the “Western Europe” story, resulting in Emma’s conception and the solidification of Ross and Rachel’s bond.
Clicked so fast I’ve been waiting for him❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love these analysis so much! Makes you realise things you wouldn't normally notice when watching Friends, please do Phoebe!
Top 3 :
Grave of the fireflies
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away.
He's the most loyal friend too, he's the best, he was there for everyone even when they did him wrong I love him so much uwu
Im with Joey in the sharing food policy.
If you want some just ask and i can get it for you, but mine is mine.
I disagree with this! I actually love the fact that my girlfriend wants my food and I am more than happy to share.. then we can just order some more! or even better I cook for her!! anything she fancy!

Damn right
He's my favorite character along with Phoebe, SO glad you finally did this. Love your videos, you guys really put effort in every each one of them.
"I guess they weren't as good friends as we are."
This is both bitter and sweet.
Joey is a good example of platonic feelings being super important.
I'm not gonna lie, this made me tear up a bit
same!
lena rosetti me too
lena rosetti same, I love me some Joey
Heck yes ScreenPrism! Don't have time to watch this now but just leaving a comment saying thanks for the Friends videos and I'll give this a watch later and give you my thoughts on it.
Phoebe is left!
Amazing video as always.
Refreshing to see someone give a multi-dimensional peek at our beloved FRIENDS :)
For real, this channel needs more subs, look at how they put their effort into every videos by editing and analysing as detail as possible each character in this sitcom
Glad that i have found this high quality channel
I actually really liked Joey and Rachel's thing. (Except when it became weird and awkward at the end)'
HAHAHAH
Joey is the most adorable character on the show. I'd love to have Joey as my own bestfriend.
i would love to see a similar kind of series or something for how i met your mother. Everything is just so well written.
I would love it if you guys went in depth with the cast of Malcolm in the middle. There's plenty to cover with their entire family dynamic.
Liked before even watching it bc of the title 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
I have this strange optimistic feeling that you are saving phoebe as the best for last.
Been waiting for this. Thank you so much, Screenprism!! :)
Your videos are just heartwarming. Lovingly put together, while never being afraid to take a stance when necessary. Love your series on tropes.
Grand finale with Phoebe hype!!!
Finally! It's here. I'm watching FRIENDS on TBS right now. I can't wait for Phoebe because THAT'S gonna be crazy!
I never had friends as close as those in FRIEND but I think I might be a mix of Joey and Phoebe. I tend to be the ever-child-like one who values friendship aspect of a relationship more than romance or sex (i've never been in a relationship yet but i know this much), and I am a bit of an positive oddball but has an unexpected edge.
msk Me too!
I think that Joey is the one who really made Monica and Chandler possible and Phoebe kinda helped Ross & Rachel
Definitely!!
As a child hearted Joey is in good hands. As a friend everyone is in Joey's good hands.
I know a lot of people say I CRIED even when they didn't. But I seriously did cry. Thank you so much for this video. I'm crying like a baby right now :'(
I admire him because he always picks his friends over his lover
I've been watching the show since 1994 and watching this, it's made me see how good he really is... Him and Chandler were always my fav friendship but the way he loves them all is just beautiful
“The great loves of his life...”
Man that really hit me lol.
He was such a good friend and great character
Finally! Joey's always my favorite.
Idk why people keep telling Joey has never been in a long term relation. I keep remembering that episode where he has to buy a gift for Kathy and Chandler mentions a 3-year relationship he has been in. I know its the butt of a joke but still counts as a long term relationship.
I love Joey, he was my second favourite! He is so lovable and quite often caring, sensitive and unconsciously wise.
I don't think Joey being a player is inappropriate for today, it's not like he ever pushes consent boundaries. He's just living his best life. I love Joey so much 🥰
Excellent discussion. I want to make something about the show's structure in terms of the three couples in relation to centuries of Western drama/comedy:
Ross-Rachel as the structural moral center, Monica-Chandler as their parallel satellite and foil, and Phoebe-Joey as the comic servants, Greek chorus, and wise fools.
Joey do share food. He shares sandwich with Rachel on the boat. And I'm sure he shares his pizza somewhere in the series.
And today I was watching his videos after almost 1 year.
I can't believe you didn't talk about Joey's friendship with Phoebe
These Friends character analyses are so good and insightful. Makes me want to rewatch Friends. right now now. I wonder if you'll do a Take on "Supernatural" after it ends next year. Grand stuff!
I'M LITERALLY SCREAMING I WAITED SO LOOONG FOR THIS VIDEOOOO
I love joey so much, the fact he was willing to marry Rachel because she was pregnant and he wanted the kid to have a father💕
You blow me away (in joey’s voice) ,.. with your character analysis . 👍🏻
Rachel telling Joey "You're so pretty." 😂
I don't know why I cried but I did. Joey is and will always be my favorite character of FRIENDS.
Why have I always been so bothered by how much ice is in Rachel's water when Joey tells her he loves her? I still am! WHY??!
Diana Woods Don't worry I'm bothered by it too 😂😂😂
ClaraRose :3 *THANK* you!
Diana Woods Lmao no prob 😂😂😂
I love how this channel always finds a deep and positive message in even shallow shows like Friends
i'm 100% the Joey friend.
I guess that's why my favorite "friend" has always been Joey, cuz he's the one I most indentify myself to !
Chandler: Here’s the phone bill
Joey(seeing the paper): OH MY GOD
Chandler: That’s our phone number
😭😭😭I almost peed man LMAO
after seeing this, i want to hug Joey so badly.
Great, insightful video. Platonic love doesn't get enough appreciation.
Maybe
Joey is my favourite character because of how much he cares about his friends
I never clicked so fasttttt!!! I was waiting for this video for months❤
