Honestly, Katelyn is the the absolute BEST. I could watch her all day (sometimes I have). I bought all of her classes and I don’t regret it for a minute. Yes, they’re expensive, but for what you gain in knowledge and understanding it’s so worth it. If you’re on the fence for any of her products, just do it. You’ll thank me later. I love this girl!! 📸 😍
I love everything about you, and your courses. You present excellent teaching skills and help others with their work and photography business in a way I’ve never seen, and in the best way possible!!
Thank you for the awesome content! Seeing final edits is so discouraging for many beginners though, because when they replicate what you do they will never have that result in camera. Some before and after shots would be HIGHLY appreciated.
Hello Katelyn, I am wondering what measuring light setting you are using on those pictures? I know you shoot manual so I do not know if it really matters but just guessing if you are letting the camera measure light in certain way, Thanks!
Ive just discovered your channel and I’m already loving it! Thank you so much for putting so much effort into this, I’m extremely grateful to have learned from this video. Million of thanks 🙏
Thank you for this video! I would love to see a tutorial on your camera settings during this photoshoot (or any other photoshoot), like white balance, autofocus modes, points etc.
Definitely going to have to shoot several weddings before I can afford that KJ All Access... Don't raise the prices. HAA! I'll be there. Probably next year, after I pay some bills off, but I'd sure love to learn so much more. Thank you for at least giving us these little snippets!! I've still learned a lot from these.
Thank you for this video. Did you use single point auto focus where you moved the focus point to her eye or did you have the camera automatically focus on her eye?
Great video and tips Kate! I really appreciate it. I do have a questions, what am I doing wrong I tried taking the same backlit pictures but my subjects always come out dark. A little guidance on camera setting maybe. Thanks and keep up the great work.
LOVE YOUR WORK!!! Thank you for this! I'm noticing a little chromatic aberration in her hair. This is a constant problem for me and it can be so frustrating. Do you have tips on editing (or shooting) to avoid chromatic aberration?
As I told you in another video, I really like your overall approach to the profession, but I I guess I'm old school that I don't like the 'blown out' background technique; high key, if you will, in lieu of fill light. I'm sure it saves a lot of time, but I really don't understand the appeal of it. I'd appreciate hearing your comments on the style. thanks.
In that last image that was too hazy, if you were using a lens hood, would that help reduce some of the haze? P.S. Also OBSESSED with that horizontal image. All the *heart eye* emojis.
I found this instruction a little too confusing :/ Most likely just me. But I came away from it still not knowing where the heck my subjects should be in relation to the light.
But I don't want to sound too negative because I absolutely adore you and your images in this were stunning - just like your clients. I just wanted to give some feedback incase it was helpful.
I'm so glad she shares her content and teaches how to become a photographer❤

Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you. Fantasy work and I like Weber so much in a short time
Glad you enjoy it!
I've learned so much. You explain things very well
Awesome, thank you!

Great idea!
Thank you these backlit BTS videos. Really great info.
Thanks for watching!!

@5:01 this should result in back lighted dark faced phots, except reflectors or fill flash are used.
Ive just discovered your channel and I’m already loving it! Thank you so much for putting so much effort into this, I’m extremely grateful to have learned from this video. Million of thanks 🙏
You're so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Do you spot-meter on the face or just dial in some over-exposure?
Wondering the same thing, I would imagine it’s under slightly to keep the background and rim light from being blown out.
Found another comment she spot meters I’m guessing their faces.
Love you photos and your editing.. Amazing!!
Thank you so much!!

You bet!

Positive exposure compensation? Your photos are very bright. I found out with you that I like portraits like that.
Thanks for watching!
Great video!! The information was very informative.
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed it!!
Are these with white sky the images they'll receive or will you blue up the sky?
Thank you for this video. Did you use single point auto focus where you moved the focus point to her eye or did you have the camera automatically focus on her eye?
Camera grabs eye very well, and her distance keeps them in focus with bokeh in background. It will grab face/eye, automatically.
Great video and tips Kate!
I really appreciate it.
I do have a questions, what am I doing wrong I tried taking the same backlit pictures but my subjects always come out dark.
A little guidance on camera setting maybe.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
I would expose for the skin. Which your camera will likely tell you you are over exposing the background.
Her courses are amazing, and they have great customer service!! ❤😁
You are so sweet!
LOVE YOU!
Thanks so much!
What metering mode do you usually use for backlit images?
Spot metering
@@KatelynJames Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this freebie it's amazing !! How much location did you done that engagement session , or this was only one?
There are 8 different locations in the full video you can learn more here: go.katelynjames.com/kj-all-access-29-special
Thanks for sharing 🙂
You're welcome!
I loved it!! What’s the name of the Camera& lense?
This was canon 5d mark iv with a 85mm 1.4
How do You meter the light ? Did You underexpose those photos or did You put the metering spot on their faces ?
On their faces and slightly overexposed! Thanks for watching!
LOVE YOUR WORK!!! Thank you for this! I'm noticing a little chromatic aberration in her hair. This is a constant problem for me and it can be so frustrating. Do you have tips on editing (or shooting) to avoid chromatic aberration?
Yes that's hard to avoid but it could be reduced in Lightroom!
Love your work - did you say you had a light in front of them as well?
We did not use any artificial light.
As I told you in another video, I really like your overall approach to the profession, but I I guess I'm old school that I don't like the 'blown out' background technique; high key, if you will, in lieu of fill light. Katelyn - did you warm up the WB to cater for the potential of green cast from the grass?
Alot of times YES! And I had to use some split toning in LR to adjust the highlight color as well!
In that last image that was too hazy, if you were using a lens hood, would that help reduce some of the haze? P.S. Also OBSESSED with that horizontal image. All the *heart eye* emojis.
Yes! It totally would! I rarely find myself needing a lens hood so I don't normally bring one but it would have been so nice here!
Why you didn’t shoot at the left side which is shade
Just wondering
Thanks for watching!
11 seasons of weddings for me. I have also noticed that this is made very much more difficult when someone uses a kit or other inexpensive lens.
Thanks for watching!!
