    Materials in the video:
    Watercolor paper 300gsm/140lb
    Acrylic colors: Yellow ochre, Burnt umber, cadmium yellow medium, titanium white, Prussian Blue, ivory black.
    Masking tape
    Spray bottle with water
    Paper towel
    Various brushes and a painting knife
    The reason your clouds look awkward is because you think of clouds as physical objects. Let's look at some ways to fix that and have you painting great clouds today!
    I love to paint clouds and watch them morph and shift all the time. It's fascinating how the mood can shift dramatically with the colors and the shapes of clouds. This loose and layered style of painting is perfect for anyone wanting to use acrylic paint in a more watercolor-esque style or make your acrylic painting look more like it was painted with oil colors.
    Some of the techniques I will talk about in this video are negative painting techniques, layering techniques, soft and hard edges and transitions.the use of cool and warm colors and finally how to create depth using colors and composition.
    Another thing I want to show you is how easy it is to change things and paint over parts of the painting that you aren't happy with. I have filmed everthing in real time so that you can look over my shoulder and see everything that goes on and the decision making that happens along the way.
    Grab your paints and let me show you how to paint beautiful loose clouds in acrylics.

    Hi Marie Louise
    Just a quick question, what tape are you using to tape down your paper? I've tried a few but all of them tear the paper. I can't seem to find any stocks in Cape Town that can help me since they all recommended Masking tape which also damages the paper.
    I'll appreciate feedback. Thanx a lot.

      Yes they are tricky those clouds, aren't they?! I have piles of paintings waiting to be edited so I can totally relate. If it dosen't work out we can paint over which is so great when working with acrylics. I try to think of the parts that don't work out as part of the under painting ;-)

    Hi Marie Louise, I love your back & forth with the blue & white to make the clouds. I'm intrigued by that shiny blue that looks iridescent, but I imagine the Golden titanium white mixed is the reason. I saw your other videos using that with Galeria paint. The colors are so pretty and I also use that Golden to mix with my other colors. I enjoy listening to your way of teaching us and interesting how you use the cloth to rub off some paint . Thank you from Peggy in Texas.💙

  • @MalvinaPrimerose
    @MalvinaPrimerose ปีที่แล้ว

    I like your painting,especially the hard white lines with a knife at the bottom. 👏As you sayed at the end it is rarely seen such huge single white cloud, they are more and tend overlaping. This is where I get stuck. Should I keep the overall shape and make it more complicated in the middle or should I brake it into smaller pieces with their own lights,shadows and edges? May be a bit of both. Within the clowd(white area) there are moments of intensity and more quietness. Furthermore there is volume and perspective. I think it is not that easy as it looks like. This particular approach in the video can be used as a background but if I want to draw attention to that part, it needs more. I see myself a battle of collors and shapes within, not just a big white space. On a small size painting it looks great, but on big will be rather weak. Besides I allways see some stories and figures made by clouds. 2 clouds that eat the sun. Or floating herd or stock of birds.Even flowers blooming. Fireworks exploding. The list is endless. Besides those shapes change so quick you need to pick one moment and go with it. I love it. It is like a movie. :) And I forgot to mention the movement those shapes create. Like a smoke from an invisible chimney. It is even a revert landscape where the " landmass" is on top and the "hills" heights face down, a revert gravity if you will. This can be confusing. But it is a great space journey. 🌌. I might start the whole clowd scene as a part of a path like the milky way. A band that wraps arrownd. But I would love to hear more from you, what will be your take on that? Thank you for sharing this video with us.

    You are just the best Marie Louise!! I love seeing how you adjust, try something and then adjust it again as you didn't love it. But I LOVE the sky, it's what I take pictures of the most, but I want to have this feel of loose movement, but I always mess it up. You are the master of skies for sure!! And I appreciate so much you showing it in real time. And I look forward to when I can try this out. The negative painting I do some in my watercolor painting, though it does always mess with my head a bit to remember what part is what :) but in acrylic at least I know I can go back over it to get better shapes.
    This turned out beautifully and can't wait until the next one.
    Thanks again for all your hard work!!! I appreciate it more then you know :)🥰

      @@TheDanishPainter I agree...they are just so gorgeous! I told my husband I'm going to need a larger hard drive to hold all my photography of even just skies, let alone trees and flowers and so many things. But there's something special about the sky...I take thousands and thousands of pictures and even if some have a similar feel, none are the same. Like a fingerprint...so you can't ever be bored with the sky :) and yes, so may colors! My husband and I will be driving and I'm staring up and going through which colors I'd use for this or that in different parts of the clouds. Storm clouds are so lovely. But the all have amazing beauty to them, I can't get enough. And, even when my body won't let me paint I can still look at the sky and pick the colors and paint in my head or plan o snap a quick picture :)
      Thats why, well one of the many reasons why, i love your art....the sky is always gorgeous and powerful and has such movement in it :) very beautiful :)
      Some not great news from doctors, but, I'll figure it out and deal with whatever we need to do next. But nothing stops me from your video's and trying to stay positive and inspired :)

    • @TheDanishPainter
      @TheDanishPainter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is hardly any sketching - just a few lines to indicate the horizon and a few large shapes. I don't want to do much sketching because I would then just feel that I'm "coloring in" the drawing. I keep the drawing to a minimum to stay as loose as possible - hope that makes sense :)

    Thank you, so helpful you've given me clues on how to do clouds even with further abstraction :)

    Det er en fornøjelse at følge dig. Det er skønt at du forklare hvad du gør og hvorfor. Jeg har ikke prøvet før at male landskabsbilleder, men efter at følge dig har jeg kastet mig ud i det. Jeg bruger dog kanvas. Tak😊

      Dejligt at høre du har kastet dig ud i det og jeg er sikker på det nok skal gå godt. Øvelse gør mester og alt det der ;-) Tak for din kommentar og god fornøjelse med maleriet! :)
