      I have a challenge for you Sauce Stache... can you make vegan fish? Fish is probably one of the hardest meats to imitate, I would be keen to see you would be able to come up with something that can come close. I think I heard somewhere that you eat fish, so if anyone on youtube could make a vegan fish it would be you.

      What you call in this video "jack fruit" is actually tender Jack, this younger form matures to become Jack, which then undergoes a ripening process to yield a fruit. The mature unripe and ripe Jack contain seeds (2 inches long). Both forms of Jack can be eaten. The unripe form is cooked, while the ripe version can be eaten on its own. The seeds can also be eaten.

    A GREAT buttermilk substitute is Trader Joe's cultured cashew beverage. I used it to make vegan fish tacos last week

    • @graavy
      @graavy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      @@자시엘-l1s in this particular recipe, I used tofu, soaked in water with nori and rice vinegar. Then I froze/unfroze it using a similar method to SauceStache's tofu chicken just to get some of that marbling in there. Then I battered it with the cultured cashew beverage, dredged it in cornmeal/spices, and deep fried it!
      Also, I have yet to try it, but hearts of palm are supposed to make a killer vegan fish (recipes online!)

    This was incredible. I only chilled the jackfruit for about 1.5 hours cause I ran out of time, so it was a near disaster as it fell apart in my hand, but in the end they just ended up more circular than flat :) REALLY spicy but exactly right for a Nashville hot. I used homemade sweet pickles. I mean, my god this was good. I am just blown away by house easy it was and how spot on it is. I can’t wait to make it again.

    Tried this and its a keeper! My family all eats meat. But they are trying to support me as I try to move toward a plant based diet. Jackfruit is the only meat substitute that they hands down like. The texture is AMAZING. :) I take the seeds, and core bits and pulse them in my Ninja. Then use it the same way that I use Tuna. It even looks like tuna flakes. I hate wasting food.

    Everything I've cooked in this unit has come out great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD4Qeo-HRLxMfom_PDinM_SBfes00qJsB ! Everything tastes so good. Some of the recipes I've changed a little to improve the taste. For instance, for french fries which call for no oil, I spray them with olive oil and season them with salt and pepper. They come out great! It makes the best toast I have ever eaten. The recipe I use calls for lightly buttering both sides of the bread. It calls for cooking at 400 degrees for 5 minutes on one side and then 2 minutes on the other side. This time has a lot to do with the kind of bread you are using...so keep an eye on it. Also, the fans in this Ninja are a lot stronger than other air fryers. So lay a metal spoon or something on the bread to keep it from flying around. It's a little extra work to use your Ninja as a toaster but it is worth it!

    The texture of it looks more like tuna to me then chicken. I wonder if you could make a tuna melt with it?

    • @SauceStache
      @SauceStache  5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      You probably could!! I think the difference is that tuna has a more dry constancy where this is more fatty like. I think thats why it works so well for chicken and pork. But you did give me some ideas. Maybe drying this slightly would be a great tuna replacement

      Have you ever thought of using that chick’un stock and infusing coconut oil with it? I bet if you did that and added some gelatin and froze it you could make some pretty realistic fat pockets in the “meat”. Idk how it would work out lol you always get me thinking when I watch your videos!

    We made this tonight and it was interesting and tasty but didn’t scream chicken to us. Crispy on the outside, which was nice, but mushy inside. If we made it again, we would try to dry out the jackfruit more.

    I was born and grew up in Java, Indonesia, and there we have this dish called "gudeg" which is basically sweet-spicy cooked jackfruit with rice, and I never knew the dish was made for fruit, I always thought it was made out of meat until I was 17 years old or something.

    My biggest qualm with jackfruit is that it doesn't offer the protein chicken would. I am wondering if I could blend it with some seitan or maybe a pea protein and some xanthum gum to bind to boost the protein content.

    For extra protein (since jackfruit doesn’t have much) do you think vital wheat gluten in the dry batter and slurry would work instead of flour?

      I was actually thinking it slowly becomes more and more nostalgic to hear the same music. this is just some good brain magic; you hear it, you know it's him, you know it's food, you know you want it. *CONSUMES* it's associated with only good recipes for me so far and this is a just a nice and consistent signature style. this is how you build a personal brand and a faithful following.
      I would say keep it like that ;D although I can suggest to have 2-3 songs in rotation for the people who get tired of only 1.

      I would definitely think it might be too sweet if the 'fresh' jackfruit is another term for 'ripe'. If it's fresh but still 'young' and not ripe, it would be interesting to try. The version in the canned is pressure cooked, however.

    Have you thought to call your recipe for what it is? Instead of calling it something that you choose not to eat? If you have an issue against eating meat, than why try recreate a dish based on meat?!
    Don't make ant sense to me...

    • @Stubbari
      @Stubbari 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the point is to make a fried chicken substitute then calling it "fried chicken" is in my opinion the "correct" way. It's a lot easier to search for "plant based fried chicken" than to figure out what someone might call it.
      _"If you have an issue against eating meat, than why try recreate a dish based on meat?! "_ Who's saying he has an issue against eating meat?
