There are much easier ways than his! His are next level! Most vegan food is as easy (or easier!) than most meat recipes. It's just making fake meat that gets complicated. If you're making fake ground beef (for bolognese or whatever), just use TVP and don't worry about the methyl cellulose etc... Personally, I use tvp soaked in beef stock or gravy powder, because I'm not a pure vegan, and replace the ground beef with that. It does have a bit of a different flavor but with plenty of other flavoring you can trick meat eaters into thinking it's 100% ground chuck steak.
many many years ago, I worked in a plant where methyl cellulose was made. While not poisonous, it's absent of nutrients. Birds would get in the warehouse.. and starve eating it. It's wood pulp - treated with highly caustic chemicals.. ground and washed.. dried packaged in 50 lb bags. Fun fact.. when the powder settles on stuff and moisture from the air combines with it.. it's a very slippery, snot like material. My little plant was called the snot factory.
Yeast extract is Vegemite/Marmite that they use in the UK and Australia, they both come in jars here in the US but are kind of expensive for what you get. I tried this recipe with the nooch and it's OK, not bad at all but next time I want to try the yeast extract.

I have the extra burgers in the freezer, and I plan on making a batch for my daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who are both vegetarians. I had to order the methylcellulose and the beet powder online, but the rest of it I was able to find at my supermarket and an Asian grocer's. You've outdone yourself on this one. 10+++. Thank you!
Something about a big bearded guy with a tiny spatula makes me feel so safe ☺️ 💕 I rarely purchase fake meat since it’s highly processed. But I’ll definitely try this recipe out since it seems like a healthier option!!

Marmite versus nooch is a radical flavour dichotomy. Marmite is also highly loaded with salt. It's a good choice though. UK veggies were flavouring our nut roasts and mushroom stroganoffs with it decades ago.

Not just in the long run, immediately it's less expensive. This took me maybe thirty minutes of labor for two pounds of pseuomeat that cost about $4 in ingredients. $2/lb is far cheaper than ground beef you buy at the store, to say nothing of the more expensive meat substitutes.

For anyone wondering about where they’re going to source methylcellulose, it’s a stool laxative found in benefiber or citracel. Obviously go with unflavoured, and make sure your product has no other active ingredients.
And as far as mushroom powder , which I’ve never seen before (no whole foods or sprouts here) Brian from knocks in the kitchen buys dehydrated mushrooms and powders them himself, and stores in a mason jar for the same umami meaty flavour. I think dehydrated mushrooms are easier to find.

It's interesting how much of vegan food comes off as alchemy; breaking down what chemical or process gives this or that texture in a non-vegan target, then figuring out how to source that from something else. It seems really unnatural since it requires so many special powders and extracts that I couldn't make from scratch, but it does have a really cool chemistry thing going on. I feel like watching these I learn a lot about flavor and texture.
Amy's makes a really good low sodium tomato bisque that is so good, and is thick and rich tasting, can be used as a sauce for many things, if used as a soup, add 1/4 cup cream or water to make it more of a soup consistency; so yummy :)
I've found TVP in the bulk food section of whole foods, and also in my local food co-op. Bulk is almost always cheaper than pre-packaged. All else fails, Amazon.
I have found it in the indian food section before when I lived in the UK, in NZ i found it in the bulk food shop and in Australia I find it in the indian shop, bulk foods, and the health aisle of the supermarket. Hope that's helpful for wherever you are.
I started using textured vegetable protein for the same reason (that and finding out how much pink slime/meat extenders that most of the beef hamburger is mixed in with and the store is still charging top dollar for 🤢). It's helped me save a lot of money!

This video relaxed me and the host has a friendly face.
I've been waiting for another video of yours for the whole day! They are just absolutely THE BEST!
And I love the fact you've decided to keep it approachable this time! Will definitely be trying it out as TVP has worked a charm for me many times in other recipes! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
P.S. As always, sending you lots of love!
Stay safe and keep creating a revolutionary plant-based movement!

I guess we have similar tastes because those are almost the exact same wines I got after doing the matching quiz. Excellent sponsor!
One day when I grow up, I'm going make one of your recipes. I've realized you gotta be "grown grown" to handle these ingredients.
hahah "grown grown".
Have made several batches of this recipe with a few personal tweaks ... love it! Great as is or mixed with other ingredients for meatloaf/meatballs 🥰.
Hi! Love the great quality content, as someone who's a meat eater I am looking to add more vegan like options into my meals. Thanks for making vegan look so easy as I thought it would be hard to do so! I was wondering if there was an ingredients list for the items used in this video? Thanks again for being a wondeful person and sharing your knowledge with us. 🤗
@@machematix thanks very informative 👍
I'm amazed. Dude you're a genius!! I'm so making this recipe! Thank you.
This looks amazing!!! Thank you!! I am DEFINITELY going to use this! And I'm gonna be a patron. You give us way too much value not to.
many many years ago, I worked in a plant where methyl cellulose was made.
When you mentioned “nutritional yeast” you motioned to the yeast extract .. :) see how focused we are when we watch lol
Yeast extract is Vegemite/Marmite that they use in the UK and Australia, they both come in jars here in the US but are kind of expensive for what you get. I tried this recipe with the nooch and it's OK, not bad at all but next time I want to try the yeast extract.
@@justababsy465 nutritional yeast is about $13 per 500g and it's very lightweight so I wouldn't be surprised if you could find it cheaper. It's usually in health food stores
I think his gesture was more to wave off the yeast extract for this recipe. Not really to indicate it.
The mushroom powder can be done in the nutribullet grinding dryed mushrooms. Dryed mushrooms can be found in Asian stores.
This is excellent!!! I love meatloaf and making sandwiches out of them, now I can have them as a vegetarian. I need this recipe!!!
I have had a shapable mince that I’ve loved in the store, that has come in bags with coarse crumbs in it, so easy to just throw as much as I need into my airfryer, right from the freezer. It came in appr 2 lbs bags, but now it is more difficult to find and it comes in 1/3 size bags, and it’s more expensive, so I think I’d try making some of this up and freeze it in a large bag first, all crumbled up. Just went online and ordered myself some more TVP! Thanks a lot! 👏👏👏🤗
I love your vids! Although my wife is getting tired of me making everything from scratch during quarantine lol!
Why would someone be tired of you making everything from scratch for them? Do you cook and she cleans, so she's tired of doing more dishes? I cook a ton and my boyfriend cleans up. He says he's not sick of it yet and I hope it stays that way lol
@@Aelffwynn a little bit like that, but also it's mostly the weird Amazon purchases like the gypsum powder for chickfu
@@JohndawnT haha, yeah the weird purchases are always fun. Sometimes I'll ask him to get some ingredient for me and he'll just go, "What *is* that?"

love your content! high quality and you skip out the bullshit in favour of being approachable and achievable!
I just tried making this today. It took a little planning, but it was really pretty simple to put together, and the taste? O.M.G.! I actually think it tastes better than BBs and IBs. Although to be fair, I've never actually tasted IBs (I don't do GMOs.) I have the extra burgers in the freezer, and I plan on making a batch for my daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who are both vegetarians. I had to order the methylcellulose and the beet powder online, but the rest of it I was able to find at my supermarket and an Asian grocer's. You've outdone yourself on this one. 10+++. Thank you!

I rarely purchase fake meat since it’s highly processed. But I’ll definitely try this recipe out since it seems like a healthier option!!
I love how you just randomly put in the sauce and "this is about a teaspoon". Look at me, have no idea how much "a teaspoon" is without actually taking out a teaspoon.
Or he is bluffing and say more to himself, this is a teaspoon? XD
Dude, you changed my life in the kitchen! Hugs from Brazil!
Looking forward to trying this. This method looks pretty simple!
Im excited to make this. Because as much as I love the packaged veggie meats that are available on the market right now most of them also use a lot of plastic in their packaging and as somebody who's trying to reduce their carbon footprint as well as eat a healthier plant-based diet this is actually a little bit something that I can use to be able to do the best of both worlds
Maybe I missed it, but how long would you say it's good for?
Marmite versus nooch is a radical flavour dichotomy. Marmite is also highly loaded with salt. It's a good choice though. UK veggies were flavouring our nut roasts and mushroom stroganoffs with it decades ago.
perhaps you could experiment with vegan Salmon :) that would be amazing! great video!
You are phenomenal. From the presentation, execution, and creativity. Even the adv is great. Slow clap!
That ground looks fantastic. Those silicone pot holders work great to move a hot pan/pot but not for holding it to empty or show off your creation.
Thank you!! That little red pot holder I got has bit me way to many times haha

Great looking plant crumble!
In the long run this is less expensive than buying meat substitutes at the market.
Not just in the long run, immediately it's less expensive. This took me maybe thirty minutes of labor for two pounds of pseuomeat that cost about $4 in ingredients. $2/lb is far cheaper than ground beef you buy at the store, to say nothing of the more expensive meat substitutes.
@@godminnette2 can you speak to the taste comparison? I personally don't like most "fake meat" tastes , so I am wondering whether it is worth it for me.
@@cherch4625 this tastes like a medium-well steak with no extra flavorings when barely cooked according to my boyfriend. Tastes like however you season it but has same ground beef texture
@@MajimeTV thank you!
@@cherch4625 I just made it, and it is AWESOME!
I just found your channel and my mouth is already watering 🤤
I just realized that this is a vegan cooking channel, I thought that he was just consistently trying the unconventional way,
For anyone wondering about where they’re going to source methylcellulose, it’s a stool laxative found in benefiber or citracel.
Could you freeze the 'mincemeat' and still have the same results when cooking it after defrosting?
You're inspiring me to go back to cooking!!! I'm definitely going to try this next week! Looks delicious.
Am I the only one who has never heard of nor seen most of these ingredients?
I live in the Bronx NY and i have not seen or heard of these ingredients either.
WOW!!!! Amazing! I am gonna try to make this! Thanks! and a special thanks to Weird Puck for the shopping list of ingredients.
Video: "add two tablespoons of dark soy sauce"
Me and my muggle brain: isn't all soy sauce dark?
Video: "if you can't find black soy sauce use regular soy sauce"
Me: apparently not
😂😂😂😂
the taste is quite different, dark soysauce is way more intense in smell and taste. in addition it is even darker :D
He's talking about Tamari
@@DA-js7xz no, he's probably talking about dark soy sauce. It's similar enough to tamari that you could substitute one for the other, but they're two distinct products. You can find it at any Asian grocery store.
Amazing video! Thank you. I found using the cheese shredder attachment on my kitchenaid works very well keeping the oil cold. I place the components in the freezer for a few minutes before use.
I’m vegan for the animals! Thanks so much for this🤗🤗🤗
On the way to trying to create jerky, I came up with philly cheese steak, by frying a really thin square. I flipped it and fried the other side. When done, I sliced the square into strips and it became bacon. Next, I dried out the strips in the microwave (2 min per side) and now I have jerky.
Welp, once I'm able to leave my house I'm gunna explore my grocery stores. Cause I really want to try this. 🥺

"Textured VegeGtable Protein"
I was wondering if anyone else caught that, lol!
the extra G is for the Green soylent
TVP is soy. Be sure to purchase only organic. Some people are allergic to soy. Soy can increase estrogen levels.
@@PilgrimFL organic doesn't mean better for you or the environment. Soy doesn't affect estrogen levels in humans.
@@PilgrimFL It's really not that big of a deal. Even if you eat a lot of.
I have those same hot gloves, from IKEA I think, and yeah they burn my hand too if I don't hold the pan right!
Yup!! Ikea!! It gives you like a second to hold the pan, then its over with haha
'These meat balls look wonderful, look at these things' while holding them below the camera view
anyone notice that in the beginning, the word vegetable on the bag is spelled wrong
I thought it was intentional!🙄
The extra 'g' is for extra goodness!
That was the first thing I saw, it literally jumped off the package.
It's intentional
Who cares WOOOOOOW
Awesome video! Truly the best vegan TH-cam channel on the market. Is this recipe posted anywhere?
Awesome! But is there a reason the label says "Textured Vegegtable Protein" at @0:33? Is that deliberate or a typo?

Awesome, can you freeze it once you've made it, I'm thinking Quorn mince style.
Amy's makes a really good low sodium tomato bisque that is so good, and is thick and rich tasting, can be used as a sauce for many things, if used as a soup, add 1/4 cup cream or water to make it more of a soup consistency; so yummy :)
In what world is a massive bag of textured vegetable protein likely to be in a grocery store?
I've found TVP in the bulk food section of whole foods, and also in my local food co-op. Bulk is almost always cheaper than pre-packaged.
All else fails, Amazon.
I have found it in the indian food section before when I lived in the UK, in NZ i found it in the bulk food shop and in Australia I find it in the indian shop, bulk foods, and the health aisle of the supermarket. Hope that's helpful for wherever you are.
Thank you ! This was the video I need, I’m definitely going to start incorporating more vegan meals in my diet.
I didn't have any of those ingredients, so I substituted with ramen noodles. It came out nothing like in the video, but it was still nice
Complained about the meat prices going up in my area. Then this was in my recommends. I think TH-cam is trying to tell me something! New Subscriber.
I started using textured vegetable protein for the same reason (that and finding out how much pink slime/meat extenders that most of the beef hamburger is mixed in with and the store is still charging top dollar for 🤢). It's helped me save a lot of money!
I'd rather use beans, tofu or chickpeas, personally.
I know they're not a meat substitute really but black bean burgers are absolutely lovely they have awesome flavour if you like them. Thanks for the video ID forgotten about tvp
