    When you watch a video on a book on TH-cam, it condenses the information down to only a fraction of what is offered in the book. I watched a bunch of videos on this method and did not opt to buy the book until recently since I had a hunch that I was missing some key pieces of information. And indeed, after reading it, I felt I obtained a few new pieces that did not quite translate when watching notes on a book.
    Indeed, even this video is a very short rendition of what is really in the book but I hope to add a few more pieces that is not mentioned in other videos. Perhaps giving examples that would intrigue you to change you life through tidying methods.

    Another philosophy you could use when decluttering is to ask: "If this item were lost in a fire or stolen, would I replace it with a similar item?". You can take a more holistic approach and ask yourself what you would buy again if you lost all your belongings in a fire.

      That's very advanced level of minimalism. Personally I would have very little if that really happened.

    I’ve got a flea market by me. Stuff I lose interest in goes into boxes and when I have enough boxes I go sell at the flea market, stuff that doesn’t sell in two or three trips goes to goodwill.

    I normally look at the item before I buy it and ask myself do I want to take care of this item. Just knowing that I need to take time to care for the item makes it easier to make a decision. To move beyond does it bring me joy. Ask do you want to take care of it.

    The nice thing about the kindle version is you can easily return it when you’re done.

      @@BeatTheBush Yeah, not sure the return period but you can return it for any reason. Considering how evil amazon is, it’s a moral obligation. If you like the author just donate directly.

    For the shades, maybe somewhere long down the line, check out low bridge fit frames? That way, the frames actually rest on the bridge of the nose rather than the cheek.

    I don't really agree with donating stuff unless it's useful/valuable. A lot of thrift stores throw out old junk they can't sell.

    I never paid attention to used book prices. Great idea. I have a feeling it might not be cheaper for me cos I'm in Australia and most of the books would probably need to be shipped from the US, but even if it's the same price of 20% higher, I'd love to have some physical books. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I don't want to be clutter free. I want to have everything properly stored away from view. So, I have enough storage. That doesn't mean I collect garbage. I discard everything that's useless. I also donate what's still usable that I don't want. I don't bother selling used items. It usually requires a lot of work taking pictures, writing ads, it's more profitable to use that energy doing something else or just having more leisure while helping the less fortunate to have access to cheap items at thrift stores.
    Unless you have expensive items, maybe. But you usually have a reason to keep those instead of selling them.
    Happy we agree on it. 🙂

      I put up a sign: it works or free. Once I google a sign in a predominate foreign language of the neighborhood, and the chair was taken in 5 minutes. 😊 It made me feel good that someone needed it.

    Duplicates are super convient. Having phone chargers in key rooms all ready pluged in is nice. While having an extra charger for travel. So you're not walkong back and forth to plug in 1 or 2 chargers.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think reduction in things pertains to things you do not use. If you use all 4 chargers, certainly you should keep it. But if you have 10 extras in a bin somewhere on top of that then those are the ones that needs to go.

    There is this audio-book CD's at the library (thank goodness for inter-library loans (ILL)). Though I have a case of tsundoku (kinda of - they are at the library for the vast majority and not piling up in the residence). Thanks for sharing the point on touching the items while putting them back into the room. To paraphrase: I did hear that in managing a clothing store.

    In hindsight, I wasted a lot of time putting stuff (New or used) to resell on eBay and/or Amazon. I regret being cheap. My earning potential through arbitraging could not match a sustainable business model such as simply doing overtime or working a second job (per diem). Now, I just gun it with working more overtime. Overall, what you're describing is "decision fatigue". The less choices you have, the easier/quicker it is for one to make decisions. As a result, businesses like Chipotle have done very well in the market because of their very limited choices of ingredients, thus making it easier on the customer. In contrast, there are thousands of different ingredients and things to pluck from a Chinese restaurant menu, causing "decision fatigue", taxing one's mental/emotional bandwidth to determine what they want to eat. It's also the same reason why Mark Zuckerberg wears the same t-shirt and jeans "everyday", keeping decision fatigue at bay and being able to reserve brain power for solving important problems throughout the day, etc.

    Hi, why the sunglasses? For some things, such as electric components, screws/nuts/bolts, etc., it is handy to keep it. I quite a lot. Then when I need something, I can find it, instead of having to buy it.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's very sunny outside. There's the whole concept of using the store as your storage. Sure, you spend a bit more to buy components but at least you do not have to buy the whole stash to store. Really depends how much you use these components.
