    I just discovered this video and really appreciate seeing the possibilities of mixing oil and chalk pastel with cold wax. I have also wanted to try using powdered oil pigment, which I've mixed with walnut oil, but never with cold wax. Based on what you've shared, this is worth trying as well.

    I ordered some cold wax. It should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to play. I just grabbed the cheap master's touch brand oil paints for now and I have some pigment powders from my resin days.

    Hello Sherry, I did a large Oil/wax painting on canvas using palette knife three months ago, it seems dry when I touch, but today I wanted to give a finish protective wax coat with a soft fabric, and the pigment comes off, especially where I used Prussian blue.
    I need to deliver it in two weeks and don't know how to make, I would appreciate your help!.

    • @StudioPashnada
      @StudioPashnada  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! The wax should have made the oil paint dry enough for a clear wax coat in a matter of weeks tho it does take quite some time to fully cure.
      Did it change the appearance of the painting? I sometimes have a little color lift off but not enough to alter the look ~ especially really strong colors.
      My only suggestion would be to fix it if needed & let it sit in front of a fan to speed up the curing. Other than that, I really have no clue. Sorry.

      I'm probably too late with this: did you by any chance use Williamsburg Cold Wax Medium? I learned this the hard way; it doesn't fully set or dry down like the Gamblin does. Very bad surprise. My heart goes out to you, I really hope your situation turned out okay --

    Maybe a cheaper way to store it airtight, put under the lid some kitchen foil. It probably will be airtight with that and you don't have to use those big ziplock bags. ;) cool video, I'm just getting into the cold wax medium and your video is very helpful.

    If you end up with a lot of soft pastel strokes (not mixed with CWM) on the surface of the CWM painting, how can you protect it from smearing?

    • @StudioPashnada
      @StudioPashnada  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      littlelauraanne61 you could probably use a spray fixative but I would use a little cold wax on top of the pastel

    I've never used that gel. Is there a big dry time difference, or just another expense?

    • @StudioPashnada
      @StudioPashnada  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find it dries faster and, if I'm remembering correctly, it reduces the cost

    I am doing a portrait on a cotton canvas and I found out that the canvas is smooth but it looks too porous still for a portrait, is it possible to use cold wax with oil paint to smooth at least the face to hide the pores of the canvas? don't want it to look like paste on the face, just to hide the pores. Thanks

    • @StudioPashnada
      @StudioPashnada  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can achieve a very smooth application with cold wax. But normally I would address this during the canvas prep.

      maahi Singh I have four posted showing how to paint with cold wax & oil, check my playlists. I rarely make new videos ~ I realized I was spending more time editing them than actually painting so you might want to check out Lisa Boardwine here on TH-cam as she posts regularly.

    Hmmm, first you want it to dry fast, then you worry about it drying out.

    • @StudioPashnada
      @StudioPashnada  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      that does seem counterintuitive, doesn't it? LOL
      Maybe a more accurate way to put it is you want it to dry faster than oil paint on the substrate but not dry out on the palette
