  • This is the APC Back-UPS NS 1350 battery backup. When the batteries die they tend to take the backup with them. The fix is replace the batteries with new ones. There are some risks involved, but if you are willing to get hands on you can replace the batteries for $40 instead of $70-90. The hard part is taping the batteries back together.
This pack is used in several other models according to the APC website.

Thanks, now I have a better understanding of what I need to do to replace the batteries in my APC BN1250G.

Great job and video. I've been doing this for years. I had an APC back-up that took 6 batteries, total. I would have ended up in the poor house, if I hadn't gotten creative like you did. I loved that back-up, but APC replaced it once, due to a problematic flaw in them, and the same thing happened again, so I pitched the whole unit.

Thanks. It is a shame they charge so much for their packs. Definitely couldn't afford to buy APC direct with all the backups I have. Shame yours had issues.

That yellow sticker should be removed. Its covering part of the vent grill which needs to breath 100% freely.

Is there no lifepo4 drop in replacement in this size? Would quickly break-even if replacing AGMs every 2 years

I never thought about that to be honest. It looks like they exist although I don't know how compatible they would be with APC battery backups. Although the cost is definitely a bit more.

@@computersales Roland W did a good series on upgrading old ups to lifepo4. Probably void any sort of warranty and not sure about sub zero temps, but they seem to run fine on lifepo4 as voltages are similar to lead acid

@@Username-qx9gk Thanks I'll have to look into it. Some quick googling makes me question compatibility but I'm guessing some of that is APC not wanting people to go other better routes.

I canged just 1 of the two batteries as one battery went dead, but now the fan continuously stays on even after its fully charged. The one battery I replaced is 12 volt 7 Amp instead of the original 12 volt 9 Amp. I guess the microcontroller logic of this UPS is set to measure current as well. So it thinks one of the battery is not reaching 9 Amps and it keeps charging it

Yeah I would recommend changing the batteries the same time. Since they are running in series having mismatched batteries will probably cause weird issues like that.
