Very nice indeed. I got one of those Dremel binding tools from Solo Music Gear in Toronto. I haven't tried it yet, but I thought it best to watch Tomy use it before diving in myself (on a scrap piece to start, of course).
thank you . i love watching ppl who are good at what they do and share info.
Thanks Walter, glad you enjoyed it..
You always impress me Tomy.
I would be so nervous after all that work.
I’m always nervous at this step Marcel.. the only thing I can do is make sure everything Is thigh on the dremel and close my eyes;)
Nicely done!
Thanks!
I've been hesitating on doing the binding on an f-5 loar copy. I think you helped get my nerve up. Thanks
Really glad this was helpful! Just make sure you have sharp tools and take your time... let me know how it went:)
First I was like "oh come on, a router on a Dremel?"... aaaand out came the hand tools 🙂 fascinating as always
Hahahahahaha, yes the router saves a lot of time but can’t get everywhere.. thanks for watching!
Nice to see a video of someone doing it by hand.... im building my 1st guitar and wondered how people would go forward to do that.
well you make it look too easy. Now I must try
That’s the spirit! Thanks for watching.. let me know how it went!
Tomy very impressive chisel work, You make it look easy but I know how hard it really is you are a true craftsman. Is there a video series of you building that mandolin?
I started building this Mandolin before I started making build videos on TH-cam, you can see it in the background in the dovetail toolchest build, which was my first TH-cam build video. There are 3 videos I made prior to this one on the Mandola. One is “ how to use and make spoll clamps” 2nd is “ tuning the Mandola backboard “ and the last one “ making a bridge for an archtop instrument “ . I will make videos of the rest of the build. Thanks for watching
Tomy Hovington Tomy I meant too ask you, If you dont mind can you tell me what program you use to edit your vidieos? Thank you Scott
Most of them were made with movie maker, if you go back to when I unboxed my new pc, at that point I started using DaVinci Resolve 14 ( the free edition.) I love it , really easy to use and when wondering there is lots of videos on YT about it.
Interesting tool that i haven’t seen before. You seem to have set the depth of cut from the get go but nevertheless work your way to the final depth in several passes by levering the tool. As someone else here commented, during these steps your in all the way :-) there’s no way back.
Yes, the dremel tool seems to be lacking power on the maple side and the bit heats up pretty quickly on thick cuts. With thinner cuts I can creep slowly to the final depth. I do something similar on the Spruce soundboard but it has to do with the rotation of the bit and the wood grain( to prevent splits or chips) Thanks for watching Maurice
Great vid. What is that little detail chisel with the right angle on it called?
These are micro chisels, a set of 4 I got from stewmac. They are very useful to clean the nut channel and chisel in small areas.

@@HovingtonInstruments Thanks!
Can you use that on a guitar with a purfling and binding channel?
No Michelle, you can’t do purfling with this tool. But you can use it on a guitar for binding.
