- Pushing my homemade mobile band sawmill to the limits while slabbing a 65-70 cm diameter log. Managed to flip the log and drop it while winching it onto the trailer bed but everything worked out. I also ran the blade into a bullet that was hiding in the log and wrecked the blade. You can look up the pictures on / donndiy and don't forget to follow! Some people would have to live in the countries in which we live and then they might understand why we do things instead of buying them.

Made in Poland, Sir I twisted wrenches for 25 years, worked wire line and have driven a truck ( 18 wheeler ). I have met many different people over the years, and can tell you my observation or opinion. A vast majority of the people (80% or more) don’t have the skill, knowledge, tools or common sense to make the things you or Donn make. BUT yet they insist on telling you and others how to do the job. Or what they would do different. Pay these people no attention, don’t take to heart what they say, just know that they probably don’t have a pot to piss in or a window to pitch it out of! Also they don’t have the sense to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions printed up side down on the heel!
Yeah, man. I sound like a pussy for saying that but it makes me sad (crying smiley face :D) when someone worships "store bought" items like these are for some reason something to strive for and in principle better than something that is homemade. But I try to understand, thus expect that my point of view is understood as well. But that's not always the case. And thus the half-rant in the end of the video. :D It's very cool you took the effort to comment on that. May you have many more awesome projects in the future, dude! Thanks for watching!
With the prices of stuff everywhere (I'm in Texas USA)...........I'd rather MAKE my equipment then pay for some of the inferior bought items!
Making machinary is a good hobby and a lot of fun. A lot of the time it is a lot more durable and works better than the store manufactured rubbish that they try and unload on us these days. Most machinary I buy gets pulled to bits and modified to make it work better in some way or another.
Smart boy. Continue doing what you love to do. When you get older, like myself, you'll be proud of your accomplishments. Tomorrow is a new day for another project. Start tomorrow and dont look back. 🇺🇸

I wish I could do something like that for just a day! But, I'm disabled and cannot stand for more than 15-20 minutes and that is pushing myself. You can look up the medical terms, but I know them by heart since I was an RN for over 2 decades. In my spine I have osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease and spinal stenosis. To cut down on the amount of narcotic pain relievers, I have a spinal cord stimulator implanted. I'm just telling you this so you can understand why I would love to see you work in person, with the wonderful smells of cut woods. That's why I love to watch these videos you guys make, to get my mind off of me and my pain. I try to work a little in my shop, but I sit more than I work. Great video from Estonia. I live in the United States. Less than 5 miles from one of the largest sawmill manufacturers in the world. I still would rather build my own. Agreed with everything you said. Thanks for the motivation and good work on the mill!
Donny, you rock man. Sometime naysayers are right, and sometimes they aren't. As many here probably see it, you are killing 3 or 4 birds with one stone. 1. People say you idea is crazy, and you prove them wrong. 2. You like building stuff, and you did. 3. You are potentially able to be your own boss, setting your own hours, and making equal or more than average while being outside and not micromanaged. 4. Once you're known more, you can go around and mill people lumber on their own properties and not only get paid, but probably pick up some off-cuts that are valuable for your own shop or sell. 5. You can look anyone in the eye and prove to them that you're a self-made man.
Yep, excellent video. Super saw and good wood produced. I agree with your comments at the end. I've just "wasted time" building a super log splitter out of an old hay baler, and a powerful wood chunker/chomper out of a 7.5 tonne lorry axle. Now my firewood is done in a quarter of the time. their is nothing more gratifying than making your own tools and material's to accomplish your goals, i do it all the time, keep up the good work.
Hell, I love in a small city where a lumber yard is much easier to get to but I’d much rather do this kind of thing myself. Everything you said at the end of the video is absolutely correct. People have become complacent about where raw materials come from and the reward of doing it yourself.

Your video was one that inspired me to build my own smaller band sawmill. It took mw a few tries but eventually I did it. I am no mechanic by any means. I am retired so have time do do this. I have already cut quite a few logs. It works quite well and I impressed myself for building it. it was just a project I wanted to do to prove to myself that it can be done. YES!
Which engine did you use?
@@a.o.8834 I started with a 7 HP and then changed to an 11 HP B & S snowblower engine. Works fine.
Another added bonus is that you can take pride in the fact that you built it yourself. I've been watching your videos for a few months now. I regret not using my time and money in my earlier years to build a shop and have the equipment to fabricate different things that I have thought of over the years.
You are one of the biggest inspirations I have found.
I enjoy everything you wrote about, too.
Nothing beats the satisfaction of building something cheaper and better than you can buy, and seeing your productivity go through the roof while your spending goes down.

Well said. But some things are more cost effective to buy though, I do not deny that. But things people are able to do themselves they should do these things. At least I think so.
My grandfather and his brother bought 35 acres back in 1940s to harvest the lumber for new barn. Plus a small sawmill. The barn is still with me and isn't going anyplace soon as it's still solid. My dad had a pole barn built in 1972 and it almost fell down due to rotting lumber. I saved it by installing new posts on one side. It's not a small barn. 90' x 36' x 16'' clear height. Oh was the lumber for those new posts expensive. I live near the center of USA. We have lots of good oak, walnut and hickory around here.
You are most definitely one of the finest craftsmen I've ever seen. You are a Jack of all trades. And a masterful one at that. More of this world should aspire to being a fraction of the guy you are. I'm a fan forever and always!

The wages for my job in Ohio where I live was about $2276/ month. I see Estonia is under the Soviet system where wages are totaled per month whereas here it's totaled per hour and per week. With what you did and where you live it's amazing since I have lived in Mexico and know poverty. I'm working on my mill, shown on T wagner on TH-cam.

That's true. It's a lot of work but better in the end. Plus, those slab end cuts make perfect fire starters. We use to go to some friend's saw mill and get some. Pine, Oak and Hickory. Lastly but not leastly, I noticed, as in all your videos, you put a lot of thought, time and energy into your work and for you, I'm sure it's rewarding and I'm sure you will continue to do so. I have built two bandsaw sawmills and had a foley belsaw circular mill. Sold the first band I’ll and the belsaw when I moved from NY state to Texas. Still had the sawing bug so built another bandmill. I’m like you I enjoy building with metal and wood and get a lot of satisfaction doing it myself. Keep up the good work.

Great lumber great mill and great video! I built my bandsaw mill about 4 years ago and I love having my own mill and I really enjoy milling my own lumber. I have also heard a few negative comments about building it from TH-cam trolls over the years, the funny thing is if you look at the trolls TH-cam page all of the troll people never have any videos that they have made, so I usually call them out and tell them, instead of being a jerk and being negative, they should put some time into learning how to build things and try to add some videos worthwhile to the TH-cam community rather then being a troll, they seem to never comment back. It seems to be the best way to shut them down. Any how keep up the good work! Ps I have a two part videos of how I built a power feed for my mill, I really recommend building one, it completely transformed my mill. Take care and hello from Washington state!

To do that to completion is a challenge at best and that's how we evolve and enjoy our own little life. It's fulfilling, keeps you looking for that "little bit better thing you could do to make it work all that much better" No life if no dream!

I am like you are and totally believe in making something out of nothing with wood or metal. I grew up on a farm and have worked for years repairing and making things. It is creative for the mind and soul ! Keep up the good work and who cares what others say anyways. Do what pleases you as that is all that matters. I live in western Canada and sure wish I had trees to cut down and mill because I would have enjoyed it my whole life.Too late for me now as my health is not as good as it used to be and I am getting too old now. Next summer I plan on building my own sawmill, and after watching a lot of videos and looking at pictures I feel I can pull this off. Mine will be able to cut 30inches if all goes well and I will save between $3-4k I figure. Thanks for sharing your creativity! I love your cant stops!!

You built what appears to be a really smooth and well cutting sawmill, however, you really put a lot of trust in wire as a log puller, trust which I would only put in a chain. It is nice to see someone actually get ahead in life and doing it by his own means. I wish only the best for you.
