Criminally under-recognised in terms of fame. Tried him on Akinator, the 20-questions bot, some years ago and it was never able to guess him despite being scarily good at the game.
I agree. I am also a descendant on my mother's side. She is and has always been a Monck. She was also a first-generation American. So, my grandfather was English. Too bad we lost Clarendon House. All we have left is Potheridge, and just the farmhouse... How much would London's Bank Street be worth today?

Telling!
A True Englishman. Shame now such people do not exist these days, especially in the government.
Agreed! OUr present leaders are midgets compared to the heroes of the past.
Truly an overlooked hero who should be more by more celebrated by history.
Indeed so!
According to my ancestry, I’m related to him!
@@cindychurch335 Then you have an ancestorship to be proud of.
I am writing a book and he’s a prominent character in it, he’s a great Admiral
A brilliant commander. He is better known in Scotland than you think!😊
Well that is really good to know! Thanks for sharing.
Many Scots served in European Armies, France ,Holland and Sweden and Monk would have known them.
@@benwilson6145 Thats a very good point.
I heard he could drink anyone else under the table, and walk away afterwards. That could be Peyps' gossip, though.
Really? I've not heard that one before! Well, if true that makes him even more of a hero!
I am proud that General Monck is part of my family’s heritage. A true hero
So you should be! Thanks for commenting.

A terrifying amount of money!
I'm also a dependant of George. This is like a happy little family reunion 😂 Our family name of Monck changed in the 17000s to Monk and now Monks.
An important story, well told.
Thank you, Im glad you enjoyed it.
Interesting
I'm glad you found it so.
Fascinating, I'm disappointed I did not know of him before.
:)
