    I was born in 1984, and started watching mr rogers neighborhood on television from 1987 to the final show in 2001. Mr Fred Rogers was truly a gifted, talented, humble, kind, and honorable man. The world lost a treasure when he passed in late February 2003. May he and the rest of the cast and crew of this show rest in peace. They will always be remembered.

    Our local TV had a children's show with a ventriloquist that was known to like the sauce and appeared on set tipsy on many occasions. After this channel did a expose' news piece on local slum lords the crew on the kid's show boarded up the puppet's house with a condemned sign. So when the host tried to slip his puppet into the shot it was blocked by the sign. Hilarity ensued. Priceless TV moments.

    • @Erin-ce5gs
      @Erin-ce5gs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I remember hearing that too. Usually he didn't mind parodies of him or his show (he did seem to really like Eddie Murphy's parody in particular). The only ones he objected to were ones that used his image to confuse, hurt, or exploit children. There are three big examples of this that I know of:
      1. Burger King had a few ads with a character named "Mr. Rodney" which used a lookalike with his mannerisms to endorse the company and sell their food. Rogers called a press conference and basically told them he didn't appreciate them doing that, and they voluntarily apologized and pulled the ads.
      2. I don't know exactly when or where this happened, but apparently members of the Ku Klux Klan were going to school playgrounds and such and giving children a card with a number to call. When called, the voice on the other end sounded like Mr. Rogers and was endorsing horribly racist messages. Rogers sued the Klan over this and won.
      3. I heard this story during an interview he gave at a college (the name's eluding me at the moment but I believe it was from sometime in 1998). He basically said that he'd heard various disk jockeys who sounded similar to him encouraging kids to do dangerous things like making a "blowtorch" from a can of hairspray and a lighter. These jokes were made during the day when children could potentially hear them and think it was actually Rogers telling them to do these things, and he said he didn't like the idea of someone potentially getting hurt because of it.
