I don’t think Hank done it this way
💯💯 buddy
Yes sirre!!!!
You're on the wrong channel if you're looking for the way Hank Done It
Couldn’t have said it better. Walker Hayes is trash
@@ClaytonWillisMusic not really this is the right channel he critiques pop country and bro country.
Walker managed to prove ZB's point by dropping the hottest pile of crap any of us have ever heard.
It was so bad it was good. It's exactly the kind of sound Walker knows us hardcore fans can't stand
No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public
I think your missing the point of the song. Its ironically funny.
Zach Bryan is a spoiled little man
@@SJ-ni6iy they're both American
I don’t understand why walker had the most class full response ever but ruined it with this god awful song and Instagram post
Maybe the only time I wished a song got copyright claimed on YT.
made me LOL
I would love to see a sit down interview between you and Walker Hayes.
Would be really interesting to pick his brain about his production choices, and thoughts on the industry more generally.
Walker hayes has a record executive hand up his ass talking like a puppet
I agree it would be a great interview
Why would anyone want to hear what walker hayes has to say
i struggle to understand why people in the industry hate something in the orange?? its an incredibly poetic song that perfectly captures the feeling of staring off into a sunset realizing the loss you faced
its not catchy enough for mainstream radio. Radio doesnt care about poetic lyrics unless they can quickly get stuck in your head. Pop-country earworms=money
Just like we'll never understand why the hell people love songs like Fancy Like. The musical taste of the world will never make sense.
Because they know that Something in the Orange has soul, something the people on the radio sold long ago.
LOL ! Bryant comes off as a douche
Mostly all Zach’s songs sound the same. Really whiny most of the time
I hate that any genuine criticism of country musicradio, and the song choices of what goes on country, music, radio or reduced down to “just being jealous “. Zach was making the point about discussing the quality of what charts on country music radio and Walker Hayes reduces it down to a jealousy issue when that was not what was being discussed. Ad hominem fallacy in action.
Not really an ad hominem fallacy at all really. He just reduced a bigger issue down to jealously, but this wasn’t an ad hominem attack at all.
Absolutely nothing wrong with what Zach said as he was literally speaking fact.
@@cpelo2536He’s attacking the person by accusing him of being motivated by jealousy - doesn’t address the actual argument. Textbook ad hominem.
@@ComedyBros5 bingo
imagine putting this snippet out on the internet and being like “man people are gonna love this”
the country music industry doesn't like ZB because he does his own thing and goes against the pop country trend currently. They don't like that he's getting so popular producing his own music and blowing up on streaming services. It's the reason Jelly Roll wins new artist instead of ZB. He may not be the absolute best singer, writer or producer but like your clip from Sierra, it is pure and genuine which is refreshing after so much garbage lately.
Walker Hayes: “drops country dis track”
Me: you think you can pick that back up?
If you started a podcast I would spend every waking moment listening. There aren’t enough competent people making media for the “middle grounders” (people who aren’t radically following a certain artist like a cult who actually give credit where it’s due even for artists they don’t necessarily love) like you do
He did have a podcast for a little while.
@@Essex626oh I wasn’t aware, I watch basically all his videos but I never hear him promote a pod
@@thatonedude4078 It was a really short-lived podcast, maybe 2-3 years ago.
Nothing says 'IDC' like dropping a shit diss track two weeks later
Hayes' singles since "AA" have stiffed at radio. Maybe he goes back to what he started out as, an actual country singer and songwriter, but it's going to be tough. He wasn't going anywhere with his old sound, then "Fancy Like" connected with millions of people that you and I and people like us will probably never be able to figure out, and suddenly he's got a formula that's putting money in the bank and food on the table. It's got to be hard to make a 180-degree turn away from that, and apparently he and his handlers still think there's money to be made in the style of country music that 99 percent of everyone who's ever heard of Walker Hayes now thinks is the only thing he does.
Yeah I think Zach's point is that the music is just so sanitized. Music that is safe, polished and is for corperations to use in commercials. Nothing inherently bad just empty.
It would be cool if Zach wrote a second verse to build off of this and sang/produced it in his style. It would make for a weird mash up concept but still cool nontheless
I kinda want them to duet this song now. And it’d probably be go #1 😂
Dude that is such a great idea it would like shatter a invisible wall between these types of country music
As much as I dislike Walker, his lyrics, and voice, I'm all for this idea.
Yeeessssss
Tyler sittin over there in the corner just being better than both of them
Idk Zach and Tyler are both really good, they're on the same level in my opinion. Walker isn't bad but this put him down a peg in my book
At some point this summer we’ll see a pic off these two together and all will be forgotten. But clearly shake the frost over everything
Nah, I sure hope not. Walker ain't got any business hanging with a lyrical genius to the likes of Zach. lol
Shake the frost over everything
Shake the frost over everything
Shake the frost over everything
As to the quality of the song, I actually think it's the production choices that are really egregious. The melody is fine, nothing special, and Walker Hayes is actually decently clever with a lyric ("Fancy Like" is garbage, but it's garbage in a way that still possesses some verbal cleverness).
But the echo, and the heavy beat laid over the whole thing just sounds awful.
EDIT: Should have waited to finish the video before commenting, because you basically said this exactly.
No drama.
Real artist vs commercial trash
zach is a genius and I love his music, but he's also an absolute bitch who i would hate to hang out with in real life
Exactly
It's like
Sailor Moon Vs High Guardian Spice
Right, no competition. It's hilarious Walker thinks he can hold a candle to Zach's lyrical depth.
This is the most intelligent, provocative, and level headed discussion of the event surrounding Zach Bryan and Walker Hayes that I have heard or read at all. Grady, I think your talents are underrated!
I love Walker's music! I could listen to several of his songs in a row and have several different styles and sounds of his music. Examples of completely different songs back to back like these: Briefcase & Fancy Like, Craig & Ya'll Life, 6 String American Dream & U Gurl, What If We Did & 9, Wax Paper Cups & Black Sheep, AA & That Dog'll Hunt, Drinking Songs & Country Stuff
that oil pastel was gorgeous! are you self-taught? very impressive either way.
Yes I am! I’m still learning
Something in the Orange is one of my favorites. That song hit home for me personally.
I don't like Applebee's or the song about it. But that is my personal opinion. It is also why my radio has buttons.
The only mistake Zach Bryan made was backing off of what he said. Say it with your chest big dawg. Don't take back the truth bc it hurts somebody else’s feelings. Walker talking abt how hard he has it on the radio. Dude could take a dump on a microphone and the record execs would pay for it to go number 1. But Tyler Childers has been the guy for years now. And he’s just now got a number 1. Tyler had it hard. The independent guys had it hard. And when it’s all over, nobody will ever remember Walker Hayes’s name. They’ll remember Zach Bryan, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton. The guys who make country music. And walkers all offended. Does he understand that he has offended every real fan of country music? It is an absolute disgrace to the legacy of Hank sr. The legacy of Johnny Cash. The legacy of Waylon Jennings. Those men are country music. They are the standard. If those men were here today to hear your music, would they respect you? If they wouldn’t respect you or your music, it ain’t country. Period. Walker may be a family man. May be a nice guy. But he is disrespectful to a genre that has raised people. That means the world to people. That means the world to me. And it makes me sick to hear this called country. And for those of y’all thinking I’m some angry boomer, I am 20 years old. And a 20 year old kid knows more abt country music than Walker Hayes who’s had 2 number 1’s on radio. Enough said.
Absolutely perfectly said
Not to forget that Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton concerts sell out months in advance over here in Europe while 99.999% of the people have never heard of Walker Hayes ever in their life.
Couldn’t agree more
Stop talking bullshit on the internet… that’s your opinion and that’s all, not a fact.
@@KabalGP Who are you to tell somebody what they should or should not do on the internet?
I feel like Zach wasn't even rude for what he said?? Like it would be rude to say "My song is better than your stupid song!!!" but... he was just raving abt a great song and complaining abt how radio stations are playing songs for your mom's drive to Kroger and not the incredible work that so many people have been putting out.
When will Zach Bryan and Sturgill Simpson team up to write a concept album about being a sailor?
I figured there was a reason you put diss tracks in quotations. Not a big fan of Walker’s music but I couldn’t believe for a second he’d genuinely get angry and diss someone like that. Like you said, he seems like a nice and pretty chill guy.
It’s because it obviously bugged him that a notoriously legendary songwriter like Zach called him out for how awful his music is, and it made Walker realize just how bad he is so he got offended.
Get back on that podcast project brother, I love your content.
I feel like you could be the JRE of country music
It's honestly head-scratching that Hayes decided to take this line of response to Zach Bryan's original remark: considering even with the polarizing reception "Fancy Like" obviously got: he's nonetheless amassed a lot of goodwill from not just the country community.................but even people well outside the casual country listening demographic like Anthony Fantano of all people...................as a very likeable, good-natured, humble person as he mentioned in his "Not Bad" review for "Country Stuff: The Album".
If anything, this kerfuffle kind of reminds me in a weird way of the Will Smith smacking Chris Rock incident at the Academy Awards several years ago: in that someone like Walker Hayes simply isn't among the first names that spring to mind having a short fuse over something like this. You expect this from Jason Aldean, you expect this from Maren Morris, you expect this from Brantley Gilbert, HARDY, Miranda Lambert, Travis Tritt, etc................but Walker Hayes? It just feels surprising to me to say the least.
I'm sure he's undoubtedly feeling at least somewhat disappointed by the abysmal chart performances of "Y'All Life" and "Good With Me" here. I'm quite confident in saying he undoubtedly thought "Y'All Life" was going to be the thing to replicate the success he achieved from "Fancy Like" considering he admitted when debuting the song live in St. Louis at the time that he felt stressed wondering how in the world he was going to follow up "Fancy Like" and keep the momentum going. And when it made barely any impact as well as "Good With Me" now, and knowing he likes the attention and limelight...............I'm sure he's been grappling with intense anxiety as to how he's going to bounce back, and can sympathize with the desperation such anxiety can lead to that can impair one's decision-making.
But yeah: this is NOT a good look for Hayes and just paints him as even more desperate: even as I continue to sympathize with the underlying sentiment of his initial response in that he wrote and recorded songs like "Fancy Like" to do what he had to do to feed and provide for his family. I respect that. I think if he just left it at that, it definitely would have been a win-win for him and Bryan.
The Applebees song guy is dissing “out in the Orange”? How? We life in very strange times.
“Austin” by ZB and “AA” by WH both landed in my all genre Top 20 Songs Of 2022 vid. I’m the only reviewer to unapologetically include “Fancy Like” in my 2021 list. I like all types of music. I make my own playlists so no need for me to hate on radio since I rarely listen to it other than Coast To Coast AM now and then.
Ok - I’m a quarter thru Grady’s commentary. 👍
hot take
but if brad paisley wrote that song, or a song adjacent, over more country production
we'd all think it was funny
Yessssss! Sierra Ferrell! Y’all should watch that interview🔥
Her armpits smell terrible
I applaud the fact that you are fair and conversational in your assessment. I’ve read some really, really ugly articles and comments of people who are just haters. And who missed the whole point of what Walker was saying, which was that , in the grand scheme, they’re all trying to be like Zach Bryan. I don’t know ZB, but his page has a lot of language and way out there posts that preclude me from even giving his music a listen. But different strokes. I do appreciate the respect you brought to this. 👏🏻🙌🏻👏🏻
A lot of good points here. Walker Hayes has proven he’s a good, humble, songwriter (Craig, Briefcase, Taylor Swift) but the hip-hop type songs also make him who he is.
Lmao. The thing is, Walker didn’t write hardly any of this or his other music. He’s got 5 or 6 other guys telling him what to say.
@@ComedyBros5 well that’s just not true lol. The three songs I just mentioned: solo write, co-wrote with Lori McKenna, and written with two other people. He even co-wrote his more popier stuff like Fancy Like and AA
@@dylanbestler613 The word "co-wrote" is a joke when it's involving multiple other people. At that point, you're just an idea provider.
And even the song or two he's written solo or with one other person, it's middle school-level lyrics. Reminds me of a teenage boy coming up with rhymes for a school language project.
@@ComedyBros5 oh my bad, I didn’t know you were in the room when Fancy Like was written…
And I just wholeheartedly disagree. I’m not saying he’s the greatest writer ever, but he has songs with complex topics. If writing hits is so easy then move to Nashville and make millions like Walker does
We NEED an acoustic album from Walker. I don't even like his music but the acoustic stuff he does 🤌🤌
10/10 intro
Man that snippet of his dis “song” actually hurts my ears with how choppy it is. It’s beyond terrible
People congratulating him on his “class” and being the bigger person… HE WROTE A WHOLE SONG ABOUT A TWITTER INTERACTION
Jeez guys. Get over it. Love Childers by the way. I'm a grown man but I was literally in tears when I heard Space and Time.
Why? Are you suicidal?
Walker Hayes can’t sing. ZB is kinda an entitled jerk. This is the worst feud ever. Make it stop.
I agree that the track was severely overproduced, but in all honesty, the writing was not that bad. However, I do not at all like how Zach Bryan is handling things. He usually tries to act like a super humble guy, which I like about him, but when he does things like this, it’s pretty clear he was obviously trying to diss Walker Hayes. He could’ve just owned up it.
Also, if you’re in any of his fan groups or anything, his dad will literally kick anybody out of the Facebook group if they say something bad about another artist, so I just think it’s a little bit funny that he’s out here knocking other artists.
I’m not a Walker Hayes fan and I’m certainly not saying that the song was the right response , but I don’t think it was completely unwarranted.
What your saying makes sense but you hear in a lot of Zachs story telling himself or the character feels like a no good man rough around the edges doesn’t understand himself kind of guy and I think that comment really aligns with the music I don’t perceive the response as a big dick move but more or less the shit disturber he is inside the fine line between an asshole and I guy who just likes a edgy joke maybe get a guy going but ends the night off with arms around shoulders and beers in hands yea know🤷🏻♂️
Anyone notice this "diss track" has the vibe of the Bartender Song (Sittin' At A Bar) if it were recorded by a drunken guy on a phone from 2011?
I like Walker‘s songs!!! Zach opened himself up to negative comments by dissing Walker.
The meta-commentary acknowledgement is everything to me.
Also, here for slightly unhinged Grady.
I have never listened to the Applebees song fully. As soon as I heard the first note, I’d shut the radio off till it was over. That clip remind3d me that I’m not missing much lol.
You could name that song in one note
I can't even begin to describe how much I love this video and this whole beef. Opening Insta to see the Country Central post about this was just amazing. I personally find the snippet to be hilarious.
Right? It’s hilarious Walker thinks he even has the right to come close to licking the dirt off Zach’s boots. His music is surface level trash.
Something in the Orange has more plays on Spotify than Walker's entire catalog combined.
I liked the line that Jesus didn't die for me to fight with Zach Bryan. Idk just liked that line. Didn't even think too hard about production but I'm always more lyric oriented anyway.
Walker Hayes early stuff off the 6 pack eps actually has some well written stuff.
Agree…I think the writing/message aren’t bad and it’s mostly in the production. I actually just DESPISE nearly everyone’s constant need to trash each other. MOST of us are just trying to get by and either one of those guys’ careers would be a lottery win for us common folk.
I dont know why so many people are so hung up on "it cant be good if its popular". I think a catchy Luke Bryan or Walker Hayes radio bop has a place. Its like a campy movie. Its good cuz its cheesy. Then you have songs that are more lyrical and have more depth. Just like a cool niche indie movie. I love all of them for what they are.
I couldn't agree more on the take on Hayes; I'm a big fan of his, but it blows my mind the Hayes' "Beer in the Fridge" and "Pain" aren't more popular. Hayes exploring his non-sober days through song has actually made great music. Also, "Don't Let Her" & "Face in the Crowd" is great. It's the commercialized music that really isn't my taste.
Grady editing a video of him editing a video 😵💫😂
Remember when walker hayes partnered with the SEC for there football music in 2022 and it was hated so much on Twitter that they deleted the tweet and never brought it up again.
The greatest ‘dis’ in country music was when Waylon Jennings dissed Garth Brooks with “Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for finger xxxxing.”
That song is SO cringey
It's High Guardian Spice Level Quailty what else do you expect from Walker Hayes
What does having Nashville radio's support even mean at this point? Zach is proving you don't need the machine to be a big name.
It’s a lot easier with the machine though even if you aren’t a performer for the machine. And heck I’d love to hear more red dirt, Texas country, Indy country, and what have you on the radio. I only found any of this stuff from listening to Red Dirt/Texas Country station when I lived in Texas.
i’m just happy tylers finally getting at least a fraction of the attention he deserves.
He should be bigger than both them combined
Call it what you want. If you are calling someone BY NAME out in your music (or Twitter) you are dissing them in some way.
Zach seems to have that singer songwriter realness artists would kill for. They seem to be the one’s that’s green.
She really said “Walker Hayes is a good song writer”. That fancy song was made by 5 other people 😂
Perfect timing of your comment "Sometimes you have to spend a little time thinking about what he's saying" as I'm wearing the "it's okay to think about country music" shirt from your merch store. Lol. But Walker is just being butthurt and he'll never have the success and absolute bangers that ZB has.
Kinda like the Luke Bryan, Zac Brown feud a few years ago, Walker and Zack need to hug and make up. We don’t need artists fighting.
Country stems from Irish/Scottish Highland music, over down through Mountain Bluegrass and then mellowed out through the prairies and ranges by people who knew hard times. In America, nobody knows hard times anymore. Like REAL, HARD, TIMES. Our homeless even have it better than the homeless of the 2nd and 3rd world. Not like it was when this music was being inspired and developed. Now, we have iHeart-shit ruining EVERYTHING and the idiots who listen dont know anything about that...
Agreed. It’s not really a diss track. As for everyone critiquing the track it’s not meant to be a release… who cares. It’s just a continued part of the posts. Also… Zach posts from the hip and walks it back if there is blowback… at some point he might start pre filtering somewhat… or just stand by the posts if he means it.
Someone check in on Grady to make sure he hasn’t had a heart attack 🥓🥓
It's good for the heart!
In a “twanger” 🤢 Country Radio needs to be put out on the street
I pressed play on this video and stuck my phone in my pocket. When you said, “I’ll play the song now” the video cut to a VRBO commercial seamlessly, and before I understood, I thought, “Of course the Applebees guy would diss someone with a VRBO track!” 😂
Saw the title of this video and thought “who is walker hayes again” don’t think I’ve heard anything except the Applebees song from him
Walker just proved why we don’t listen to the radio. Real Zach Bryan songs know he’s way deeper than something in the orange.
The Sierra interview was truly amazing!!!!
Magic
I agree with you about the production. If he didn't layer his vocals like that and just had one take of him singing, it would actually sound better
I find it insanely hypocritical and weak to hate on @walkerhayes with his history in the business. Everyone says they love an underdog story until they actually make the thing happen. Truthfully the man minds his own business and its low hanging fruit to hate on the "Applebee's song". The song was a smash hit and is loved by millions regardless to its artistic depth. A hits a hit and the man earned it. Single out one of these corporate label creations that are blatantly obvious if you feel the need to fight for the underground. Truth be told, ZB, a radio guy...calling out another radio guy is weak sauce at best. Focus on your art and let the chips and fans fall where they may. Ego is a hell of a drug and it shows itself with these type of statements.
THIS!
Zach knows like no other artist what it’s like to deal with haters to the extend that he regularly disables his social media accounts, and for him to call out Walker being the low hanging fruit that he is was such a bad look
3:29 - doesn't sound like Hayes is the sharpest tool in the shed. ZB wasn't talking about his own song being better
I think walker Hayes has a good place in country music and so does Zach the genre is so vast I work in a shop setting on heavy equipment and if I wanna full blast something out the speaker put some pep in my step and kinda just cruise through the day walker hayes and Morgan’s more pop songs are a easy choice the bass and hard punch lines kinda get you mindlessly vibing but on the drive home or sitting around the fire having a beer with the boys Zach Bryan is a no friggen brainer it’s got such a soothing melody and you can focus on the depth of each line like the poetry it is I rarely comment but I think as county goes more main stream all these pockets and twists on the style are super important
Softest beef ever
It seems like the only thing Hayes is good at is annoying us with his ear-piercing production instead of showing us his raw vocals and instrumentation and sincere songwriting. His diss track is proving Zach’s point.
If anyone needs a diss track about how country radio treated them it’s RAY SCOTT
Damn I though Zach Bryan was being immature for tweeting about the song I did realize that they had already like had a back and fourth… this beef is weird
Is Zach Bryan really wrong about that Applebee’s song though? I don’t think so. I love Zach Bryan and Tyler Childers. They’re both great artists because their lyrics in my opinion are personal and very relatable and they’re not mainstream.
usually a diss track isn't supposed to make people cringe like this
I think, if you're gonna say that singers offten have this weird urge to criticise each other then the song should probably not be all about someone else but rather a nore introspective track with maybe just the one reference to Zach
Man the more indie crowd really can’t handle other ppls success. All they do is bitch about mainstream artists. I’m not even a walker Hayes fan
Zach Bryan is winning the same way grunge won over 80s hair bands in rock. This is purely an exact repeat of what happened in the 90s to rock. I’m also loving watching every second of it because these dudes on radio have 4 fucking song writers and 3 producers helping them, and they still sound like shit. It’s hilarious.
I have no idea what else happens in this video, but saying "twanger" should put him in country music prison forever 🤦🏻♂️
Love your channel, you introduced me to country music! ❤Please take care of your health though, a carnivore diet is really lacking nutritionally.😣We want you around for many more great videos, including more chill ones like this :)
Just trying it for the month of January but I feel awesome!
I’ve heard really good things about carnivore diets. Mikaela Peterson has talked a lot about it, but it cured her of a lot of her severe chronic illnesses.
@@GradySmith Glad to hear! Keep up the great work
Zach's songs are like country's version of Counting Crows.
Walker Hayes' diss track forgot to diss ....oh and that think that you mention missing from Something in the Orange is "Juice" ...like when you working early morning construction job and you drop a pallet of brick on the foreman ...everyone going to assume there was "Something in the Orange Juice"
I totally agree that it wasnt a bad track lyrically, but the production did the message dirty. Walker actually compliments Zach in the best way by saying that most uf us die trying to BE Zach Bryan. Did people just miss that? If Walker was smarter about this imo, he would have done the song in Zach's style, unplugged and acoustic to be more tongue in cheek while still showing admiration for his talent.
Walker Hayes is the "High Guardian Spice" of Country Music and he's doing a diss track at Zack Bryan, Come On, this is stupid drama and this song is awful
For one, the point Zach was making was objectively true. Sure he didn’t have to call out a song by name; but the Applebees song is a microchasm of the bastardized “country” music that Nashville has created. And of course Nashville doesn’t like Zach Bryan because his songs don’t follow a formula and he’s rough around the edges. They created the formula and he’s broken it and they’re not cashing in on it like they are all of the other cats on country radio. All the while Zach Bryan is selling out stadiums supported by acts like charley Crockett and Charles Wesley Godwin and billy strings, all artists who aren’t hardly sniffing mainstream country radio. This is a sign of the turning of the tides, and walker hayes is just clout chasing
Gotta see Tyler Childers on the farm at Bonnaroo and that change my life the best set I’ve ever seen
I've found far better modern country artists by browsing TH-cam than I've ever heard on the radio.
shades of Zac Brown and Luke Bryan. in the end can not fault Walker Hayes for making a living.
Do you have any music videos with you and your kids dancing? Hmmm. Those kind are my favorite.
Something in the orange I thought you were talking about the band our last night. They have a song titled that
Anyone "pushing back" on ZB legitimately has NO sense of humor.
Also imagine being so insecure about your trash autotune music, that on a world wide platform, you would respond with anything other than "no doubt, TC is so good that he started his career as a legend, he should be getting way more air play".
Meanwhile, Zach's got a stadium tour this year I can't afford, and it took Walker 18 years to get to Applebees? Yeah, we can see through the haze.....
I'm honestly sick of both of them. Been tired of Walker since he started on the radio. When you thought it couldn't possibly get worse then Sam Hunt, we were cursed with even worse garbage. And as for Zach Bryan, he's really not country either. Totally different style but still not country. He is only popular because it's the cool thing right now to listen to Zach Bryan. Nobody that "likes" his music even knows what his songs mean. I'm just glad Randall King is finally starting to get noticed. He'll be alot like Cody Johnson in a couple years.
