Is Celestial Plural Marriage Unnecessary?

Celestial Plural Marriage (Polygamy) as taught by the current leadership of the Church of Jesus Christ in early 2020s is not necessary in the next life. However what did Joseph Smith and Brigham Young have to say about that?
