One of the best colour grading technique I have ever seen. I've seen tens of it. Even in 2021 it is still actual and effective. Thank you for the tutorial for all times!!!
I'm in love with phlearn. Crazy stuff... Sometimes I have to admit I do go a tad bit over board with my using of techniques shown here but I simply love phlearn. U guys r such a huge support for the freshly starting and aspirational photographers. I find it quite annoying when trolls stop by to say crap on the stuff u guys teach cos they do nothing but spew some serious nonsense. Great stuff guys.
I've followed many of your tutorials now. I just wanted to say that it's a pleasure to start your videos for the quality of the tutorials. but what i want to say realy and it's important, is that i really like your approach of learning, maybe made by your quality as a human being, sense of life results in that always happy teaching, dynamic and funny, generous and not boring. It's like meeting a friend and it's really a pleasure so to follow your tutorials :) Thanks a lot for that happiness :)
very good tip on taking breaks, "fresh eyes" can make you see everything anew, also music producers do this by leaving a track or listening to it in their car for a new perspective
Great tutorial- as always! Especially liked the color cast removal technique ! I'm a little ify on the blend if layer style- I need to phlearn more about that!
Gosh,,, this is just what i needed for such a longest time~!. I'd come up w/ my own way of doing this,,,(which is quite similar to urs).. yet been not quite sure if mine was an efficeint one or not. Now,, this podcast shows what the professionals do, & 'how & why's...which ensures me what to eliminate & to keep for the best effects.
Hi Aaron or who read this from Phlearn. Thank for your work, You give very useful workshops. Few weeks ago I watched lesson about hue-sat. When I try to find them again it does not work. Lesson consist in toning the picture in that hue wich on the skin of the human. Could you help me find? Thank you.
your tutorials are great.. Can you do a tutorial if you have the know how which i'm sure you do on how to simulate medium format look/tones as if the image was shot with a medium format? The colors are washed out a bit and whites are creamy and has more of a vintage appearance - you know!
Great Vid, I just wished you would of added one last step which is...now that you've created this look/grade, how to save this as a LUT so it can be applied to additional images without having to go through all these steps on multiple images.
Wow, thanks for this Phlearn! Careful though, I'm pretty sure Aaron must be one of those new iDroids, one of the early models without legs. I still love his vids though :)
Chief -- I'VE SEEN MANY TUTORIALS that discuss color-grading for motion pictures. Is there any compelling use for color-grading in still photography? Many Thanks!
Can you do a tutorial on fixing harsh highlights in a portrait from midday sun? I use shadows/highlights but don't know if there is a better technique. Thanks!
These tutorials never get old. Always Phlearning! I wondered... would be necessary to use the color cast corrections before the color balancing if the image isn't as "perfect" as your example in the tutorial?
Where's the link to the video tutorial? Great work as always Aaron/Phlearn team. I think you explain things at the perfect pace. I guess it depends on how familiar you are with photoshop tools though.
I could not make layer mask visible on screen . (like an image) Tried mask options but got no hint. Could you please kindly explain how to do this .Thank you .
Hey I click on the layer mask while holding alt on the mask on Mac. This will show you the just the black & white mask. Then alt click it to go back to your image view.
I would like a tutorial on how to remove glare from the surface of water in images such as long exposure. I'm stuck with an otherwise beautiful image that has very distracting sun glare on the surface of the water. Thanks.
QUICK TIP: If you ALT(OPTION)-LEFT-CLICK on the Eyeball of any layer, all the other layers toggle ON and OFF. Do this on your original background layer and seeing the BEFORE/AFTER is so much quicker than selecting the layers, grouping them, and toggling on/off the Eyeball for the group.
It's a really great tutorial, and I'm very thankful for this. But I think if you are new or just trying this kind of technique, you'll find it hard to get if you'll be using a completely different image. I'm completely a noob, but I think he easily selected the skin tone areas here because the highlights are in skin parts. Try using this same method on light background. I'm not so sure about this though, any thoughts? or corrections for me? :) :)
I can say these tutorials have changed my life

I would increase contrast to make shadows more darker and less cyan. And in the inspiration image use yellow instead of red in highlight tones.

Can you do a tutorial on fixing harsh highlights in a portrait from midday sun? I use shadows/highlights but don't know if there is a better technique. Thanks!
Any tips for applying the channel technique to someone with a darker complexion?
I love all Phlearn videos but this one I found really hard to follow.
You guys are awesome though!

Thanks i have learnt some techniques
really powerfull thanks Aron
Where's the link to the video tutorial? Great work as always Aaron/Phlearn team. I think you explain things at the perfect pace. I guess it depends on how familiar you are with photoshop tools though.
Photoshop needs a 3 way color correction like Premiere. Would make this effect 10 time more easy.
+TPV Productions i so wish they would!
use levels... ezpz
TheCozyUploader It's not the same maths because "levels" only accounts for Value not Hue or Saturation.
Try using Capture One.
Aaron the best :)

I would like a tutorial on how to remove glare from the surface of water in images such as long exposure. I'm stuck with an otherwise beautiful image that has very distracting sun glare on the surface of the water. Thanks.
Have you tried to use a polarizer to minimize the glare?
Of course but that's a moot point now. I need to get rid of the glare after the fact.

"No, not gonna happen, but we can do some color gradings"
Haha.. I love this guy.
