The tree ones are Woodmen of America, a fraternal organization that became Modern Woodman of America. They were a group that provided benefits for widows and children of Lumberjacks. Modern Woodman of America is still in business as an insurance company.

Thank you for another amazing cemetery video. I'm really enjoying them. Lots of elaborate stones and flowers that I enjoyed seeing. B.T.W. thoses little blue flowers are " blue scilla " they're planted by a bulb and they spread like wildfire. ( 3 yrs. of horticulture in school. ) Have a great week and stay safe, Matt.

Debbie, so true I have them all over my lawn in spring...so beautiful...I guess the previous owner planted them and now after 17 years( since we bought the house) they continue to spread.

I love the Bachman headstone! It made me curious as to why they both died in 1927. I was able to locate both of their death certificates online and they both died from natural causes it appears. Both were born in France. Thanks for sharing this history with us Matt 🙂

Thanks for all the great videos. One thing comes to mind when asking the question "what is moving these stones" . This may have already been stated , I haven t read all the comments. I think it is ice. Water becomes trapped between the two stones and freezes. When the begin to thaw , they can be moved quiet easily , given the remaining ice and water mixture , a strong gust of wind could move the easily under the right conditions. Thanks again for all your work !

High ground has shorter grass and then slopes down to where you can see soil movement right along the tree line in sections. Lawn maintenance crews compact the soil causing it to allow even more run off and that's how the fence line/treeline is separated from the high ground. Difference in ground levels and how both areas are maintained. Solution: terracing and/or retaining walls. Last but not least, diligent tree and shrub pruning and care, thinning out the overcrowding from saplings, etc. Because i say; just as the headstones erode away, so do the grounds (and surrounding grounds) as well. People don't tend the lands as much as needed. Husbandry ( properly tending to the "needs of the land and trees) has gone out of style I guess. I also agree with the person who said to pick up the trash at these gravesites (even fallen brush if possible) not mattering who the stone or marker area belongs to. Matt thanks for the videos because they show so many things about life and death that we don't seem to have the time to see anymore. Great job always 539 !

Those stones may get bumped by the lawn mowing equipment. If they are using large riding mowers they could easily bump them without realizing it.

Wish you and yours all the best from me and mine. And on behalf of the order we send our love for your lost family. Because we believe just because someone passed doesn't mean they are any less than what they were when they were living. They still deserve our love and respect

I have over time. Noticed stones move, and because water gets under the stone lift and move them with the greatest of ease. ( One side warms so the whole mess slides slowly that way( all it takes is time) ice and hydrolics do the honors.

Water underneath stones freezes and lifts it ever so slightly. depending on pitch of the base stone, if level, the stone will slide to the sun warmed side. Process on a pitched base stone will often cause the stone to tip. Any thoughts?

Sometimes vault workers will take old plants not cared for and plant them around the edge. When waiting for a burial to start, you can make extra money putting new foundations under stones too. Unfortunately, the machines used to dig, and carry the vaults, are big heavy pieces, and sometimes its narrow. You bump stones often. Some people dont take care to make sure theyre on neatly. Stones get bumped. Cemetaries are tight.

Maybe you could catch some grave service there one day and ask the guys whom are digging the graves or fixing to work a funeral . They might be able to tell you what is going on . It is very sad !! Love your old graveyards videos. This graveyard to me look like that highway when was build, split that graveyard in two parts, maybe thats why some headstones are on strange loctions, maybe they are moved from space where road is now, hope they didnt move just the headstones. And that strange leaning stones...there is lot of vibrations from a heavy vehicles passing by so maybe from that. Not a very quiet and nice place to be buried.

If you learn how to grave dowse you will be able to determine if there is a body with those headstones, or even those without headstones. You can tell how long and wide the body is, as well as the sex of the individual. I've dowsed in rural areas, working with the genealogy society so that headstones can be placed on those without.
Don't even ask me how it works, I have no idea. But I know it does work. I found 5 unmarked graves in a line, two adults and three children. After checking county records, it was determined that a family was buried there, they now have headstones. For me, no trip to the cemetery is complete without dowsing rods. You should try it.
Also, I found one grave where the sex could not be determined. It just kept going back and forth between male and female. I finally gave up and looked at the headstone. It was a mother and her infant son.

Hunters may have driven over them. It would be my guess. Also Matt if this graves are that old they not have any ancestors left. The cemetery my grandparents are in is so old that there isn’t any staff to take care of the graves and it is up to family. I’m the only one that’s left that cares about stuff like that. Some of those markers are so heavy you need some sort of crane to move them. Great video!

If they hit them with a riding lawnmower or a larger landscape mower used with a tractor or even a back hoe to dig, they push the stones. Sexton wasn't careful with heavy equipment.

Metal gravestones that turn green are another form of "White Bronze", unless you can see that it was once copper. And the moved stones are from the caretakers not paying attention while mowing and hitting stones. Stones actually are easily moved and it's a problem because, strangely, people steal them. 😠💔😢

    • @scariestshari

Actually it's not bronze at all. It's more like aluminum. But "White Bronze" sounds a bit swankier.

    • @terrymyers699
      @terrymyers699 6 ปีที่แล้ว

That flat, green-patina'd marker is bronze. Zink, or "white bronze" markers have a very distictive looke to their manufacturing. Plus, they didnt make flat markers from zink as these were 'prestigious,' cutting edge memorials.

The second military marker you looked wasnt for a Civil War vet but a WWI vet. You could tell by the American Legion circular flag holder, its nit a GAR emblem. Also, unless its a Mexican War vet, Civil War, Indian Wars and Spanish-American War (inclusive of Philippine Insurrection and Boxer Rebellion) all share the same design w/ either a routed shield or needle gun shield emblem. All graves and headstones move. And given the fact that this cemetery was built next to a river that floods the water to dirt ratio is probably greater then the other side of the street. So headstones will tilt, will move, will topple w/ the varying viscosity of the soil beneath. I hate to see cemeteries built close to erosion areas. Becuase, sure, 100 years ago it wasnt a problem. Now w/ that much time of erosion graves will start be be exposed and then crumble into the river. And you cn tell that there is no endowment for the cemetery ot they'd build a retaining wall to stop or at lease slow down the erosion.

StarGazer Girl not regional. I'm in Colorado and the older grave yards all seem to have one or more tree or log markers. They often say "provided by the wood workers guild"
