Hate to break it to you, but the Astrodome is still standing. Only the circular ramps were demolished. It stands empty to this day.

They were too busy adding all of the unnecessary a.i

You forgot The Orange Bowl home to the Miami Dolphins during their perfect season. Torn down now for a Baseball only stadium!

Yes, the OB was a major exclusion. Lots of blunders in this vid.

The Big Sombrero Tampa's iconic stadium was beautifully conceived. They built an architectural monstrosity in its footprint. Raymond James stadium is fucking hideous.

But the Astrodome hasn't been demolished yet. It's just abandoned.

    Older stadiums had more appeal.

Cleveland’s was the first expressedly built to host baseball and football - 30 years before that became a trend

You have to mention the cookie cutter all purpose stadiums of the 70's and 80's. Riverfront, Three Rivers, Veterans Stadium, Shea Stadium, Oakland Colosseum, and Fulton County Stadium were all great concepts. All hosted conference championships and World Series save for Fulton County Stadium(the Falcons didn't host a NFC title game until 2012 at the Georgia Dome). They were all built to accommodate baseball, football and a host of other activities like concerts, tractor pulls, wrestling matches and some even hosted the Pope. Some had bad angles and some seats were so far from the action it took sound a second or 2 to get to you. They were cold sometimes windy places that often smelled of stale beer and urine. One such place, Veterans Stadium, held a special place in my heart. I went to countless Phillies and Eagles games there(even though I'm a Cardinals fan) not to mention I saw Paul McCartney there. Sat in every level at least once. Of course the turf retired more players than Muhammad Ali but it made for exciting sports. Even for baseball the Phillies during the playoffs would draw more than 60,000. And just to correct, of the stadiums you mentioned only the Silverdome, Metrodome, and the big sombrero in Tampa ever hosted a Super Bowl.

Could have added Shea Stadium, the original Yankee Stadium, the Orange Bowl and the Kingdome.

Cleveland Municipal Stadium: Thanks for the nightmares, most of them from the Indians. There wouldn't have been nearly as many homeruns hit if they had kept the fences positioned at major league dimensions the way they did for most of the 1960s and 1970s.

Cleveland stadium was also the first stadium to have lighting stands, and the first mlb night game, and the first NFL Monday night football game. Candlestick park was the host of the 1989 world series game that was delayed by the Yorma Linda earthquake. And the Pontiac Silver Dome also hosted WWF wrestlemania 3 featuring the classic match between "Macho Man "Randy Savage and Ricky "The Dragon "Steamboat and also the legendary match between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant. You also forgot the Rogers Center in Toronto with the world's first retractable roof

Didn't Olympic Stadium technically have a retractable roof first? I mean if was akin to folding up an umbrella but it still could host open air events.

Dual stadiums to me are by far the worst stadiums ever built! Astro turf is another thing I’m glad is long gone. I dislike the synthetic grass as well crap just like dual stadiums.

I think we should revert to that with all the greedy billionaire team owners demanding their city builds them a new stadium. They make tons of money, yet need $2 Billion for a stadium that sits empty 90% of the year. My city is paying off 2 tax payer funded stadiums, one of which is coming up to 25 years old and the team is asking the city to foot the bill for a newer stadium and have threatened relocation if they don't get it. If we could build stadiums for $35 million in today's money I'd put both the NFL and MLB teams in there.

Fulton County Stadium switched between grass to astroturf back to grass IIRC. They also tried growing grass in the Astrodome. Shea Stadium as well. The Vet went to a more natural grass looking turf before it closed but it was still terrible.
