I knew someone was going to pull me up on the whole LSA thing, but you’re wrong by two accounts. The first being that Holden never used the LSA, that was only HSV which is an aftermarket brand and technically not Holden. Also, the ultimate engine used by HSV was the LS9 only in the GTSR W1 models. Nice try. 👍🏻

How did I miss this video?! It might sound weird to others but this is a dream car for me, I had an LS1 VX and I loved that car and always had a soft spot for them. I would absolutely love this!
VG was the previous. It was associated with the introduction of a new platform and later introduction of the model much later than the release of its associated model. (Eg. VN/VG and VT/VU). Then as VP and VX came along, the ute was already finished off and ready for release as the expected model prefix. They didn’t do it with VE but also sold the VZ utes well into production of the VE simultaneously. Then again though, they did that with the VS series 3 that was produced until the VU was released.
Same when the Statesman was reintroduced. The VQ came out in 1990, 2 years after the VN was released. The next two lined up with VR/VS until the chassis code changed to WH for the "VT" Statesman.
All ways favourite of mine the vx ss in the Ute they a SS fifty Ute only made 500 I got hold of One that's was seating in a hay shed it been in storage for 8 years All original

I remember a few years back on Perth Commodores, someone ls3 swapped a Vt or VX acclaim I think it was, changed the gearbox also, but kept everything else the same, including the damn diff, they left a massive single pegger in the tunnel was the funniest thing
Yep, traction is a big problem if you're in a 2wd car. Even with high power (400kw) you don't see too many cars get under 5s for the 0-100km/hr. My VY LS1 auto Calais with exhaust, otr and tune does it 5.6s and you can see it in my videos
got a 09 gts myself, i love the ls3. that vx is a thing of absolute beauty and it still sounds better then my gts, i gotta know what exhaust that things got
I own a near identical one but auto with a dominator 4200 and a harrop 2300, rebuilt ls1 383, makes 550 rwhp with 980 of torque. Mental with the auto !
@@Fit_Cooch rear mount 2300, absolutely ! Could change the pully and get more power but pretty sick for the rd at 550, shit loads of torque. Auto built by shiftright, I have a ve gts 08 with same blower but a manual, similar power but would take the auto any day !
@@philhankins7364 sounds good I have a ls1 stroker too with gen 4 style rods honestly just as good of a motor now then any LS3. Not really tricky at all to get good numbers. If there was ever a reason to get an ls3 crate and not rebuild the ls1 then its a no brainer to pull that new donk down and build a 416.
My favourite model of all. Just bought a equally tidy low km V2 Monaro (VX era) in manual. Curious about the short shift, any idea of brand? I’ve got a Harrop short shift in the mail, but I don’t believe it actually lowers the gear lever height. That SS seems to sit lower than stock. Great video mate. Loved it

Sexy classic Holden red VX. Excellent mods. Although the 20” wheels look nice - the limited traction they would allow coupled with a torquey 6.2L means it’s probably slower than a tuned 5.7 0-100. But on the Highway - this would be a weapon
@@wizzfizz6800a small profile tyre will be less grippy than a large profile tyre as there is less elasticity and flex in the tyre. The other factor is cost. Good quality tyres in low profiles cost significantly more by orders of magnitude. Therefore most people running 20” wheels will statistically and probably be running lower quality and less grippy tyres. Most common manufacturers don’t run semi slick patterns on these sizes for this reason. And lastly wheel weight. Non-forged 20” wheels weigh a ton. This un-sprung weight doesn’t help at all when it comes to performance data - compared to an equivalent Lower diameter wheel
I'm looking at doing the same but with my vt clubsport 2000 and your right I've been looking for a new LS1 so I don't have to rebuild mine to put in a cam and work it the same kind of money to buy a ls3 a full rebuild and worked would cost round the same as a new ls3 so y not
I sold my black vx ss manual with a ls3, otr, twin 3" diffilipo exhaust with the bigger 4 into 1s(2 "7/8?), true track mini spool diff 4.11s. I did everything myself retuned the original ls1 computer, had it emission tested and engineered. I never put the cam in it because it absolutely flew, 120mph 1/4. I sold it about 10 years ago, so sad. I wonder where it is because now, it was 100% stock other than mechanical mods and I doubt there is anything like it around.
@@Fit_Cooch back in 2010 ish there are a few engineers accredited with car modifications, they need to come have a look. I think he check the engine mounts, they are the same and the exhaust and a few other things. The I probably took it over the pits with the certificate after the application was approved. I think they game me an engine number too because I had a crate engine, I had to engrave it on and they checked it. I also needed the 5 gas emission test to be passed, I think jaguar in Perth did the test for me. Make sure you have good cats and the car is running in closed loop mode if its tuned. Probably do it with stock cams if you plan to change them. Could be different these days, they keep getting more strict on what your allowed to do.

A standard barra does not even come close to 600 NM at the tyres the fastest standard barra was in the 2016 sprint and it made 576 NM at the flywheel 😄

I've got a vt ss Ls1, 6sp in my garage, that I rarely drive, I forget it's there most the time. 88,000 k's I'm a little bored with it, but, very reluctant to sell it. I was just think'n recently about gettn it going alot harder 🤔 3 options I considered. 1. Head,cam Package, on the Ls1 2. Ls3 swap. 3 383 stroker. Doing my head in, deciding which way to go. 🙄.......any thoughts fella's??
They did the same name thing with the vn utes, they called those utes vg’s. Maybe it was because it was the start of a new generation each time who knows🤷🏼♂️

VN/VP was also called VG in the ute. I think they dropped the different Ute code with the VY as they were running out of letters to use.

Exhaust is pacemaker extractors 1 7/8 - 4 into 1 3inch, 100cell cats, 3 inch all the way through with a varex muffler in the end 😀

Im stroking my ls1 to 383ci which is bigger than the ls3 376ci.. matched with cnc ported heads is still cheaper than a ls3
Should of gone a lsa... ls3 is great but that lsa is a weapon. My 408 turbo ve ssv gives me a smile every time a barra pulls up.

These days it would be cheaper to 383 then find a crate motor, unless you find a nice priced second hand LS3 I’d go LS3!

its a bit of a sleeper to the untrained eye it just looks like a generically modded LS1 but its pushing a ton more power than an LS1
But the VU particularly series 1 are mechanically closer to being a VT than a VX
That is the case with all LS1 and ecotec engines
