I was thinking of buying a 1986 dodge ram 50 basically the same as the mighty max. Something came in mind and I was like it would be cool to throw a evo engine a small pick. It’s AWD, 4 cylinder turbo etc. I wanna do that but idk if it’s easy to find any evo engines.
@@efrain300 - all the details are in the TH-cam description, and the other comments, so check those out when you have a chance. It’s a 6-bolt 4G63 turbo and a narrow km132 transmission out of an older 2.0L dodge Ram 50.
Yes, the engine sits 2-3 inches forward with custom made motor and transmission mounts. I also lengthened the driveshaft to make that fit. Oh and I used a station km132 tail section on my transmission which moved my shifter back to the stock truck position.
A very heavily modified narrow block KM132. It has wide block km132 gears inside it. It has a starion tail which moves the shifter rearward. I also cut half the bellhousing off and welded in one with a hydraulic clutch slave cylinder so that I could swap the whole clutch to hydraulic activation.
Jeremy N same with my 7bolt in my max. Clears up once oil flows thru the head.. what did u do to fit urs? I mashed my firewall in but dont want to do that on my next truck
Yeah in this truck it was lifter noise. There are upgraded lifters that will correct that, but older style hydraulic lifters can get noisy. Obviously make sure your engine has enough oil in it too, because low oil also causes noisy lifters.
Fairly certain that he’s using a stock transmission on his truck btw. the truck is TECHNICALLY a rebadged Mistubishi so the transmission probably works with a eclipse engine because they’re from the same family of motors I’m not sure though
BIGDADDY Pump - id look for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold or brake booster or vacuum lines. Any kind of vacuum leak would cause that exact issue.
I have a 88 Dodge Ram 50 sport. Second owner. Engine bogs out from time to time. I put a new carb. I'll have to relook at all the vacuum lines. Thanks for helpful hint.
Dale Edwards - I built it in 2006. Which you can read about here: www.hotrodcoffeeshop.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3 It was featured in modified magazine which you can see here: www.superstreetonline.com/features/modp-1304-1989-dodge-ram-50-macrocab/ I sold it in 2014, and it was then bagged, painted gray, and made into a long bed. You can find pics of it if you google a bit.
Hey I have a 1988 mighty max and I just bought a factory gauge cluster like the one you have to replace mine that does not have the tach on it. Any tips on installing it and getting the oil pressure gauge and rpm gauge to work
That’s an awesome upgrade to do. I actually swapped my tach cluster in 2006, and I wired it up to a 4g63 turbo engine, so the details are a little foggy for me. If you are still using the original engine and haven’t already tried it, I’d just install the cluster and see if it works as is. Sometimes factory wiring is built to work that way. If not, you’ll need to add a wire for the tach signal and the oil pressure sensor. The tach signal goes to the ignition coil. The oil pressure sensor would need to be added to your oil filter housing most likely. You’d also need a wiring diagram to determine where the wires go in the cluster connectors. I recall mine took a while to make work, but that was because of the 4g63 tach signal having waste spark, which a factory truck engine doesn’t have. That’s about all the info I have at the top of my head. Good luck with the project. It sounds fun!
You are probably hearing the lifters. This truck had the stock 1G dsm lifters in it which tended to be noisy. Upgrading to the newer “3g lifters” makes this noise go away. I just had not done it yet in this video.
Fuzz Allmighty - the transmission was a stock narrow block km132 for several years, and then I shifted poorly one day and chipped a tooth on a gear. At that point, I swapped wide block km132 internal parts into my narrow transmission. The wideblock transmission has wider gears and generally seems a bit stronger. It lasted wonderfully until I sold the truck in 2014.
Christopher Bowley I don't miss it the way it was when I sold it. Although it looked and was absolutely awesome when I sold it, it was the most fun when it had a 14b, and stock wheels and tires. I could bake the rear tires at highway speeds. I miss that a little bit.
It has a narrow km132 with wide block km132 gears inside. It has a starion tail section to move the shifter rearward. I also welded a portion of a hydraulic clutch style bellhousing into this transmission so the clutch is all hydraulic instead of cable.
@@WiringRescue ah i see thank you, im doing a 4g63 swap in my 1990 mighty max as well but im trying to make about 500 hp so im looking to find a transmission that will handle the power but fits the motor, how much hp do you have
Yep, I built it. Check out the other comments here - there is lots of info. In short - it’s a narrow block km132 transmission, converted to use a hydraulically activated clutch. It has a starion tail section to move the shifter rearward and the gears inside are from a wide lock km132.
sdf d - I built this truck to daily drive and I did exactly that for 6 years, in Massachusetts, putting tens of thousands of miles on it. I was then asked by a magazine editor if it could be featured in a magazine as a sleeper. Why would I say no to that? Lastly, why be a d-bag?
I have a 89 with the g63b carb single cam and I had the carb rebuilt runs good I'd love your engine in my truck
i had one of these 87 D50 5spd fun little truck
It’s really fun with a turbo!
This thing is RAD!!! Awesome build bro😎👍🏾🇺🇸🇵🇭
Thank you! I sold it a few years ago, and have regretted it greatly!

What’s the brake specs?
Can you build my it same year tho
I’m glad you like the truck, but I’m not currently building cars for others. Just doing my own for now.
@@WiringRescue what motor is it and did you get a different transmission ?

What transmission, bell housing, and drive shaft did you use for this?
I’m still tryna figure that out
Sweet truck wish it was mine
For the engine itself, did you move it forward and adjust the motor mounts?
Yes, the engine sits 2-3 inches forward with custom made motor and transmission mounts. I also lengthened the driveshaft to make that fit. Oh and I used a station km132 tail section on my transmission which moved my shifter back to the stock truck position.

Lifter tic?
Yeah when cold it had a little lifter tick. It still had 1G lifters in it, which as we know, are terribly noisy.

Just picked up a 89 mighty max clean lil truck 1 owner old man passed away so his wife gave it away it's going to be my gas saver
Is there a email where I can reach you at? I think I have a similar truck.
What trans you are using? How did you fitted it
It’s a narrow km132 transmission from a mid 1980’s Ram 50 2.0L.
is that ticking sound normal? my regular 4g64 does the same thing. runs perfect everyday though…
Yeah in this truck it was lifter noise. There are upgraded lifters that will correct that, but older style hydraulic lifters can get noisy.
Obviously make sure your engine has enough oil in it too, because low oil also causes noisy lifters.
What trans and parts did you use to make it rwd? Thinking about doing this in a miata.
Miatas ARE rwd with a 4 cylinder that can take boost
Fairly certain that he’s using a stock transmission on his truck btw. the truck is TECHNICALLY a rebadged Mistubishi so the transmission probably works with a eclipse engine because they’re from the same family of motors I’m not sure though
Pretty sure these trucks are RWD, both the 2 and 4WD ones (obviously unless it's in 4WD)
I have an 88 mighty max. Having a problem when idling it wants to die. Have tried 3 diffrent carbs. Any suggestions?

When the truck was new, it had a 2.6L and a wideblock KM132 in it. The 4G63 doesn't bolt up to a wideblock KM132. It needs to have the Narrow style.
