Demikids Dark Version was my first Demikids game and I absolutely loved it. I actually loved Demikids more than Pokemon, tbh. Most people complain about how difficult the game was but it wasn't for me.
I don't think DemiKids Dark Version is a particularly hard game by itself, but as someone who started with Light version, there's no denying that Dark is the harder of the two, and that's by design.
"Go back in time to plant a tree to save the world." What is this, Shadow of Destiny (Or whatever that Konami game with the character who became a star of destiny in Suikoden 4 was.)? Also any chance you'll review the Majin Tensei games now that they've been translated?
I've been playing these games over and over again. And it's true that Dark version story line is weaker than Light version, but imo the fusion mechanics is more simple than the Light version. I can even get Scorpio (which is my favorite Demon in the series) with mood-burst power from link fusion. And the post game could be better if the developer back then include a dungeon with Demon that both version lack. And PS: Icyberry is such a pain to get.
I'm not sure if it's his primary focus right now (or if he's even still doing it) but I believe RetroTranslator Tom is working on AT LEAST Ice. Not sure about Fire. But yeah, I also hope for a proper fan translation one day. I'd totally do videos on them if that happens.
@@strain42 Great to know it's being worked on. Of course I'd happily also play Red/White and Black to get the full story, but one thing at a time I guess! I played Light for the longest and I'll have to agree it's better - has more memorable moments and ironically you see the darker parts of the story in that game! I'll have to play more Dark though, since it still has that novelty factor for me because I remember less of it.
Took quite a few years for me to get a cheaper deal on eBay but when I did I got lost and put my game down for a time forgot what I was gonna do and the random encounters were just too much for me.
Wow, I completely forgot that Amy died off-screen in both versions! I am also kinda disappointed how story in dark version turned out to be rather... Disjointed (I think that's the right word.) Regardless, more Devil Children videos are always a plus for me! Not gonna lie, I think that the anime actually handled the story better. Not sure about the manga since that one is pretty hard to find.
Honestly, I think the DemiKids games (Light & Dark) are very... disappointing, compared to DeviChil games (Black & Red). --Let's compare DeviChil story hooks to DemiKids story hook: Devichil Black: "My brother got kidnapped by demons! I must go to the demon world to save him!" DeviChil Red: "I am recruited by the Demon Lord to prevent merging of human and demon realms, which might destroy both." DemiKids Light/Dark: "Hey, we found this book on demon summoning! Let's summon some demons 'cause we're stupid like that!" --Explanation of players' demonic heritage: DeviChil Black/Red: It is eventually revealed that both protagonists are Licifer's children, while their mothers were human. Both characters find their mothers' graves and converse with their ghosts, having a bittersweet farewell with their mothers. They also eventually meet their father, but more on that later. DemiKids Light/Dark: You can control demons 'cause you're demikids. *How* and *why* are you demikids? Make up whatever story you want, 'cause the story-writer(s) never bothered to explain it. --Plot progression: DeviChil Black: You eventually find out your brother's actually your half-brother - and *his* father was the seraphim Michael. Michael and your step-brother eventually start commiting genocide in the demon world, as they attempt to initiate Armageddon - and it's up to you to either stop them or join them in their quest. DeviChil Red: You're sent on different errands by the Demon Lord, until you eventually find out that he usurped the demon world's throne from your father. You defeat him and free your father, then together venture forth to decide the fate of both worlds. DemiKids Light/Dark: Demons are messing with space-time and being evil 'cause they can, just go and stop them. --The endings: DeviChil Black/Red: There are 3 different endings in each game, based on your decisions near the end of the game. You can team-up with angels and bring about Armageddon, which ends up destroying, then recreating the world and acting as "New Game +". You can kill the angels, then summon and kill the goddess of creation, ascend to godhood and try to improve everyone's lives at the cost of the entire world forgetting you ever existed. Or you can team-up with Lucifer and start Ragnarok, permanently connecting the human and demon worlds, opening up the lowest depths of hell where you encounter demon generals on your way to confront Beelzebub. The 2 games have unique character interactions in their endings, essentially giving you 6 different endings. DemiKids Light/Dark: You fight ridiculous, constantly changing, formless doodles as the final boss, get basically the exact same ending in *both* versions of the game, have your dead friends brought back to life using timey-whimey logic 'cause emotional manipulation is a thing, then you get to select whether you want a "New Game +", an extra dungeon or you've had enough and just want to stop playing - from an on-screen menu. Oh, and let's not forget that in DeviChil Black/Red you can fuse your existing monsters into stronger ones *OR* send them to train, where they can improve their stats or learn new skills and spells over time. In DemiKids Light/Dark you can *only* fuse your existing monsters in hopes of getting stronger ones, as demons can't level-up nor improve their stats. :/ Personally, I'd say DeviChil: Black had the best story, while DemiKids: Dark had the worst story. Gameplay-wise, I'd say DeviChil: White is probably the best one, as you can use both regular (fusion-table) fusion and rank-up fusion, giving you more tools at your disposal. ... Apologies for the long comment. Great video, informative, on-point and entertaining. :)
If its any consolation, the Light And Dark Devil Children anime at least tries to justify Jin and Akira's demonic powers by having them be the reincarnations of Dark Lord and Lord Light in that continuity. Though yeah, I will agree it is extremely odd how the justification for why the kids are Devil Children goes to "Actual biological child of the Morning Star himself" to "Literally never explained".
I liked demikids dark version better cause between a partner cat and a dragon I would go for the dragon also for some dumb reason I dunno if its possible in light version as I've not finished it I remember in dark not only I get urd, skuld and verdandi but later on somewhere on the game I get norn so technically I get norn and Lucifer on top of having urd, skuld and verdandi so I dunno which demons light version doesn't get I'm assuming Lucifer but I dunno its weird that in dark version you can get the very demon/Angel that summoned you in the first place lol (again as I've said haven't finished light version cause too lazy to play the cat)
@@strain42 I know norn was a given but I don't recall you getting urd, skuld or verdandi in light thou I could be wrong also wasn't too far in light to know Lucifer is obtainable is he the light versions arcade reward like the battle net tournament reward like how norn is in dark
Its technically not complex specially when you have access to future rem you can basically leave them in the present rem somewhere and you can collect them in the future rem and they gain massive stats boost depending on the training as far as I remembe at least
i had a friend that owned Dark Version ;3 he let me borrow it but i couldnt save a new game so~ constantly had to restart xD and i could never find it to beg my parents to buy it for me lol
That's what happened with me an Animal Crossing. My friend let me borrow it, but I didn't have enough space on my memory card to save, so I just kept replaying the tutorial where you work for Nook over and over again.
It still baffles me that the Demi kids games exists. It just like, everything about it feels wrong. Also “want to see my Yusuke funko pop” is one of my new favorite lines ever
My order of that pop got delayed, and I was gonna just do the same bit with my Arsene pop, but honestly it bothered me because nothing seemed as funny to me as Yusuke and I can't explain why.
Those eBay prices... damn. I’ll have to keep my eye out for light version of the two for sure
Great video

I'm not in any particular hurry to do them, but yes, they're certainly on the table. I actually really liked MT2.
A fun video - wish I didn't skip on these when I was younger. May have to see an emu later to see if I can't give it a shot.
100 bucks for a set of games that people in the megaten community don't even like, thats just a kick in the teeth

@@strain42 At least, the anime does a lot more with her story if it's any consolation. Plus, Hiroko Kasahara's absolutely beautiful voice for her.
