As an American who has traveled and lived throughout both East and West EU (surprisingly) Belgrade, Serbia was by far the best hospitality I've received anywhere in Europe.
Last year I moved from California to Uruguay and I tell my friends that the only other place that I've experienced such a high degree of personal freedom is Serbia. The people in both countries are fantastic.

@@mattball7074 No I did not. It was kind of a now or never opportunity so we pulled the trigger. (Although I had been to Argentina.) I did do a significant amount of research before deciding to move. It takes a long time to get here by plane which can be a drawback (or advantage depending on how you look at it), but there are direct flights between Montevideo and Miami.

Central Europe is great too (Poland , Czech Republic , Slovakia and Hungary )
Belgrade is amazing and planning to buy property there this year____ finger crossed…can’t beat Belgrade: amazing friendly people, amazing energy, amazing food and even better night life, freedom and what I like the most is how Belgrade is well connected to the rest of Europe…wherever you want to fly is extremely close. …max 2.5 hours or so
Living in Uruguay and having visited Serbia, the degree of personal freedom in both countries far exceeds that in the USA.

When I tell my German boss that we have more freedom in Ukraine, at least in connection with Covid regulations, he is taken aback. And yet, this is true.

I'm from New York. I design solar panel systems for a living. My boss is Polish. He's one of the best people I've ever met. We have 2 installation teams. One is Polish and the other is Hispanic. I'm a Latino myself and yet I get along with the Polish dudes more. They are very responsive and direct. No bs. I'm not a white guy so society doesn't pressure me to be PC. Those Polacks never got that PC memo and I love that shit. One day I'll visit Poland. I know they're in central Europe but they have that East European mentality.

I'm really interested in Eastern Europe. I need to do more research, but tops on my list are Serbia, Monte Negro, Turkey, and Georgia.
I can affirm some things you said, Andrew. Georgians - if you are a friend, there's nothing else like it in the world. They're the diametric opposite of shallow and flaky. Belrade Airport, absolutely quick and efficient, and a the Serbs are welcoming and sincere to boot.

All great points, Andrew! I just like the ease of life in Eastern Europe. When the SHTF, Eastern Europeans will have their own food/gardens and know how to take care of themselves. But in Western Europe, everyone is so dependent on the government that tyranny will come swiftly.

Not sure if you heard, I was told its "peaches versus coconuts", americans are very soft on the outside, they will tell strangers their life story, but it's all outside things, often times, the friendships will easy come and easy go, and you never learn the person true colors, you get that hard center in the middle, asians, eastern europeans on the other side, they are more reserved when you first meet them, it taken some effort to get them to open up, but once you get thru the initial reservations and barriers, they will open up and you will often make friends for life, resembling a coconut.
Also Motenegro where I live. I have had no problem with people speaking English or making friends. I enjoy living here.
I live in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine with my girlfriend for $1500/mo. That includes a nice, but non-luxury apartment, restaurants, food, uber, etc. As self-employed (I work remotely for a US company) I pay flat 5% tax on my income (group 3 self-employed). An economy ticket to New York is $400-500; to Istanbul $75; Dubai $150; Lisbon $110.

@Michael Bolton NO! Theoretically, anything can happen, but the probability of any invasion is extremely low. UA is much stronger now than 8 years ago & a recent survey shows over 1/3 of UA Citizens will take up arms & fight any invasion. That political costs would be catastrophic for Putin.
Russia could easily put a choke hold on the UA economy by stopping all exports to UA. In 60 days chaos would be rampant. UA depends on Russian gas, coal, fuel, industrial supplies, the list is very long... Finland and Sweden did not join NATO after World war II because it was not in their best interest since they are so close to Russia and had a difficult past with Russia. As long as NATO stays out of Ukraine and NATO weapons are not located in Ukraine, then Russia's security is not threatened. Russian Aggression is always based upon political calculations to strengthen security for the ruling kleptocracy and the oligarchy. They all work together. I am relocating to Kiev Ukraine from Atlanta Georgia USA this summer regardless of whatever happens I'm still relocating.
I am very open to Eastern Europe, in particular Georgia, Russia and Serbia; based on what I've seen in your videos, people I've met and personal research. I am also adventurous minded and want to travel to and inside Siberia and Mongolia as well. A second citizenship is the primary item I'm interested in and sometime this year will contact you and your company to move forward on this. Thanks for the videos. Keep them coming.
The Russian state is giving out free land in the Far Eastern half of Siberia to potential settlers for development. Look up the "Russian Homestead Act".

You hit some of my favorite Places. Eastern Europe is for the most part great, and for the reasons you mentioned-I own an Apartment in Bucharest and have lived and worked in Tbilisi, Belgrade, Skopje, Prague, Hamburg, Paris ,Luxembourg, Manila, Puerto Rico, Kingston Jamaica, Caracas, Ankara, Colombo, Abidjan and Belmopan as well as Jeddah and Ashgabat, If had to pick a favorite it is a hard choice between Belgrade and Tbilisi they are both great towns to live in. Just don't be away from home on Black Friday in Tbilisi!--- If you have been there you will know why! lol

I spent 6 weeks in Belgrade and for the most part it was great. The people were friendly, the nature in western Serbia near Bosnian border is gorgeous, almost everyone under 40 had very good English even better than France, Spain, and Italy, the city is very walkable, everything is very cheap, and the nightlife is amazing. The only downsides are that the air quality is poor because everyone smokes and the cars are not regulated well, if you want any food that is not Eastern European or Middle Eastern you are shit out of luck although the Burgers were actually quite good, and no one cleans up after their dogs so there is dog shit and piss on the sidewalks in many parts of the city.

Andrew, thanks for doing this video. I've been hoping for something like this for a while. Eastern Europe as well as Russia and the former Soviet bloc countries are very interesting to me and I'm sponging up as much information as I can about all of them.
I wonder if you could do a video on what you think may become problematic in that region going forward vis-a-vis conflict. There are tensions in Ukraine, Belarus and simmering issues in Armenia, Georgia, Bosnia among others and, without getting into who's right and who's wrong, I wonder if you might give us your opinion about how this may affect living and investing in these areas.
We certainly can't rely on our domestic media to give us anything resembling the truth.

I've only ever visited Hungary and the Czech Republic for a short tour back in 2004. I've never really thought about living anywhere in Central or Eastern Europe but maybe I should consider looking. As I've gotten older I want the quiet, relaxing, easy life with no hassles. Your videos give a lot of great information.
I lived in Estonia and Russia both for a few years and I agree with every word of this video. Everywhere east of Prague is the future and is a pleasure to visit/live. I got the feeling of a 50s USA mixed with a grey market culture. I love it.

I have not seen anyone’s face while i was there everyone has 2 masks ,many have shields .. people are really scared generally. Good people but if i had to live like this …100% i couldn’t!

Parts of Albania? Every other person there speaks English, especially in Tirana. I lived there for 2 years. Hospitality there is amazing.
I have been thinking about moving from Canada to Georgia within the next 6 months . You've said alot of amazing things about this country Georgia. I love the outdoors snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer. Like you said it's closer to Asia which is just a flight away. ✈
Bulgaria borders turkey and Greece to the south - short drive to Istanbul. It’s in EU, property cheap (need to set up a company to buy), many speak English, easy to get 5 year residency. Feels very safe with a cohesive, traditional family oriented society.
I’m going to check out Bulgaria in July. Georgia later in the year. And Serbia at some point. Maybe I’ll pop over for a day or two, when I am in Bosnia is May.

For the last two years, I have mostly been bouncing between Tirana and Belgrade. I have chosen Tirana as my residence.
Even though by population Belgrade is much larger, Tirana lives bigger. Mihaelova Street is nice, but Toptani Mall and the shopping streets of Blloku sre much better. The Bohemian Quarter in Belgrade, but the cafés and restaurants in Blloku and the adjacent Air Stadium are far more extensive and upscale. Belle Epoque Pâtisserie is just flat out stunning.
In an area about 1 km by 2 km that encompasses Blloku, Air Stadium, Downtown and Pizara i Re nearly everyone speaks good English. That is because everyone under the age of 40 was required to take 5 years of English. Even in the tourist part of Belgrade English is neither as common nor as good.
Cost of living is about the same. Rents are higher in Belgrade, but food is more expensive in Tirana. Both cities, in their centers, are walkable, but Belgrade is really hilly and Tirana is flat.
The kicker, though, is the new 'Remote Worker' visa that is one year, renewable and exempts 135K of foreign income from taxation.

I have plenty of personal freedom here in the state of Texas typically much more than other parts of the USA or the world. I did enjoy a recent trip to Istanbul (my 2nd visit) and Tbilisi, Georgia (my 1st visit). I respected the local regulations in Tbilisi which required me to show a negative PCR test before being seated in their restaurants. They were very thankful for my business and were very gracious. Minor regulations still allowed maximum enjoyment of their food, wine and hospitality. I unfortunately had to return home early for family reasons and cancelled my flight to Yerevan, Armenia.

I am about to buy a small property in Tbilisi for business (ARBNB) and actually working on a project for a new business. Nobody gets in your business, less bureaucracy. I am married to a Russian from Sochi and I know how difficult is to do anything in Russia

My daughter will go there to school and I'd escort her & also thinking of opening a branch of my Biz there like an expansion into the EU via Serbia 1st stop; so want to be sure of the vaccinations rules before I make up my mind.

As soon as you said, "If you're looking for sympathy..." I laughed out loud. Sympathy is in very, very short supply in Eastern Europe. Having lived in Ukraine for 2 years (and Poland, Romania, Hungary, etc), I can tell you that Slavic countries are not soft countries. They do leave you alone - completely, lol. They will not coddle you at all. 0%. It is a great place to shed that weak, feminine American softness you didn't know you had, a place to find gravitas and power. You will become strong and sturdy there. Once you are nice and strong...then what? Come to Latin America for tacos and chicas where the only Corona they think about comes in a six pack.

Andrew is right on the money about the importance of personal freedom. Western Europe has diminishing personal freedom, particularly for men. And one of the best things in Eastern Europe is little diversity; the countries are still culturally coherent and socially cohesive.
Huge reason I love Eastern Europe is the homogeneity. Diversity equals conflict and strife. No thanks.

As someone who generally is looking for the same as you all, I am concerned we are being hypocrites by promoting diversification in places like Serbia. I am a young man and I see the value, but I feel like we would be stepping on the toes of the native Eastern Europeans. I have yet to leave the US though so I don’t know if they don’t mind?

I'm from Latvia. Not cool and great here. Absolute Covid paranoia ( I'm fully vaccinated, so I'm not any camps, free choice), high taxes, unfriendly people and not that great weather. Subjective opinion though. I left Latvia for good in 2011.

Yes, and with none of the government services. Free healthcare but of low quality service. Free schools if you want you raise your child as an imam. Taxation and fees at every step of daily life. Low ROI on real estate rentals with high (up to 40%) on rental income..

Andrew, can you update your "If I Could Only Live in One Tax-Free Country…" video? I guess UAE is not #1 anymore after announcing 9% tax rate.
That tax only applies to people who sell to UAE citizens and people not in the tax free zone, it does not apply to the majority of westerners who lives there. Even if it did, 9% tax is a lot better than paying 40-50% in taxes.

I might be open to living in Serbia. I've recently expatriated from Austria to Panamá, with a temporal residency in Mexico, too. But the ability to have a short travel to visit people in Austria is appealing, when it is from a country with a lot of "soft freedoms", as you call it.
I think Austria is an extremely stupid country, with surely less than 5% of the people able to think for themselves. You get to understand now, why all the world wars commence there in one way or the other. But I still retain a connection to people, nature there and somewhat my roots.

Homogeneity in demographics leads to a more stable, coherent, and cohesive country.
Yeah the heavy addition of Arab blood has made it very interesting especially in countries like Georgia where apprx 40% of their language is Persian.
@@letgobandit Georgia is not part of Eastern Europe. The Black Sea separates it from Europe. Also, Georgia is closer to Turkey and Iran than it is to Europe. So that explains the Persian blood u spoke of. Eastern Europe is all white. At least for now.
The poorest white countries are all found in Eastern Europe. They don't have much to offer migrants so they don't go there.
@@del.see.oh.89 the biggest reason for that is because their economies and societies were decimated by 2 world wars and then communism. Also, the poorest Eastern European countries look better, and are safer and more pleasant to live in, than the richest west countries currently. Al lot of that has to do with the great replacement happening in the west now.

Im black American and I have traveled throughout many parts of Europe and Eastern Europe is by far my favorite in Europe. Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro are my go to countries. I used to live in Vienna, Austria which is the gateway to the east and the west Europe and would drive to the east block all the time.. The best farmed fruits and vegetables and the people are the most welcoming and most humble people. The nature is also so beautiful. I can say this as a Blackman thats well traveled and have been out east so many times. I can honestly say I have never felt any kind of racism there toward me out in the east block. I LOVE IT!!!

The best thing about Eastern Europe is that they don't speak English. You learn their language and culture and integrate
who doesn't speak English? 🤔 in most of those countries they often speak better English than in western Europe, South America, Africa and Asia

I would say I have met more English speakers in Russia than Ukraine. Ukraine was impossible to just show up and easily communicate. Moscow has street signs in English, But Ukraine, unless you know Ukrainian or Russian you get scammed a lot.
