    still learning all the differences in these old Detroits.. I started the same project about 2 years ago, there was only a few people doing it on TH-cam. My 8v 92 going on a Ford 351 stroked to 420.. finally got a little time today to do some polishing. My av92 looks just like your 71.

      Yes probably is the same, the 92 should have the thicker & bigger bearing end plates over the 71 style…… check out the vids I’ve posted on this. 👍🏼🏁

    This is some good information. I have the opportunity to grab a couple of 6v71 blower cores cheap and I was thinking about rebuilding one or two to try and run.

    Oh man!! I screwed up!! I had an 8/71 from a Detroit diesel. After pulling it off the engine I didn’t know what I was really looking at. Then where to find the intake to run the interesting mounting system vs the gmc style.
    So my friend had an issue with his blower on his 56 Oldsmobile. So I gave him what I had so he could possibly get his car going again.
    Thanks for sharing your knowledge!! Very helpful and interesting 😁👍🏁

    Ok, how do you get around the mounting bolts? On the "V" they are splayed where the "traditional" case are straight down.

    So 6-71 6v71 back plates and covers fit a 8v71? I got one for 50 bucks at a speed shop needs to be converted but im having trouble finding stuff. Found a piece here and there. I dont got to worry about needing a governor plate or anything like ive seen on some?
    It was a spur of the moment thing but id been eyeing it for years and finally caught the guy who owned it. Old guy at the shop whos the parts runner cant wait to see it on my car.

      So the end plate “covers” can be used with the V series, & some 6/71 or 8/71 end covers can fit also……the one I’ve shown/illustrated can , & can be trimmed to suit around the corners👌🏼

    There is also a 8V92 small bearing/ big bore I think.. well I know mine is a 92 series.. and small bearing. I posted a video, would you take a look at mine and tell me what you think it is. I believe it's a 8v92.. small bearing Big bore

    • @69JANKS
      @69JANKS  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There maybe a lot of variables🤷🏻‍♂️, but i think you have an actual 8v/71 ……I’ve done the video on identifying between the two (common differences), big bore vs small is identified via the thickness of the top flange on the blower case (thicker is small bore / thinner flange top is big bore) forget the measurements🤦🏻‍♂️ but there’s like an 1/8th in differences on either end . If small bore rotors are installed on a large bore case, will have big clearance & loose boost…..👍🏼 on traditional cases this is, as for V series cases I’m yet still not aware if there is small/large cases on these 🤷🏻‍♂️?

    Hey brother! Is there a trick to getting the front and rear cover plates off a blower that’s never been serviced? I have been trying a slide hammer and slightly tapping them, found your channel and figured I’d ask. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, these end plates are on there.
    Appreciate the videos !

    • @69JANKS
      @69JANKS  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You first need to pull off the end “plate covers”……you will then find all the gears ⚙️ to be taken off, Bearing covers & then you can pull /slide off the actual end plates off the rotors itself. 👍🏼🏁

    Been waiting for this video.
    I was told by a Detroit engineer thst the top of the 92 case is wider and has more tapped holes is because they are turbocharged as well as supercharged and was to get better sealing because of the boost from the turbo.

    On one side of one of the rotors it says GEA side is that the front I'm assuming? Plugged all my orifices that I'm not needing today, figured out it is 6505-2rs & 5205 ZZ for the front & rear bearings.. much cheaper if you buy them that way instead of through a blower company.. about a quarter of the price ! And did you have to remove any of the rear rotor shaft?

      I know the ins & out of typical Blowers out there etc, but i get my Blowers built professionally by my Blower guy🤷🏻‍♂️, it’s just not as simple to do with the basic home garage tooling….. milling end faces, lathe, dial gauges, special vices & most importantly the assembly clearance & timing of rotors 🤷🏻‍♂️🏁

    Which ones are Bypass Blowers? thanks

    • @69JANKS
      @69JANKS  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A lot of these V series blowers can be bypass ones, remember they came off a compound style diesel setups (Turbo fed Blowers) but forget that….. just stay away from any Case or End plates that have a weird huge relief opening anywhere….. some end plates would have a huge hole opening in the middle top (that is the relief bypass) coming from the face plate side & out that top hole…
      That hole can be plugged off also either with a welsh style plug/ top block off plate which enables you to still run that end plate. Don’t forget you can also get aftermarket billet V series endplates for pure competition use 👍🏼🏁

    You are comparing a late style v6 to a early v8 , the extra bolt holes on the v6 iis for late style turbo the v8 is made with extra holes & also v8 blowers were made with big bearings if you look in Detroit manuel there is a different setting for p blower ( puffers) also beware of v6* v8 blowers that have a C stamped on end plates they are Calif smog blower the rotors are smaller & the top of case on the top inside are cut back so the rotors seal at a later time , not good stay away from calif smog blowers.

      Check out my other vids on all this…
      V-series blowers are easily converted over to run on gasoline/hot rod use…. Once the right process is done (converted over) these blowers can make a badass V8 build🏁, they have been doing so for a long time even still today. Although of course not as popular or desirable as your usual 6&8/71 , but the point is to point out these V blowers can be converted over/ & used if you wanted too, & also to explain & identify a little about them. Check out & watch the full vids, cheers 👍🏼🏁
