- Maiden flight of scale RC sailplane DG-808S, electric powered (MEGA motor ACn 22/30/3E, 2P4S LiFe 2500mAh, propeller Aeronaut 10/8). Built from ARF kit FLYFLY HOBBY. Wingspan 4m, lenght 1,56m, weight 3,5kg, pilot Vladimir Lukl. RC airport Syrovice CZ, 2018.

Is this the very inexpensive kit? Around $200 usd? If so did you modify the kit for durability?

Have you consider mount solar cells on the wings? We did this plane that flight without batteries and this month we'll test the new model with 2600mm wingspam:

This is not my glider. The glider flies comfortably.

After having flown mine for the first time I know how you felt at the maiden.
This plane is flying really fine and you don't think that it's a hotliner you will have a lot of fun with it!

If it has a MOTOR then it is not a glider, otherwise anything with a
motor than can glide, would be a glider. That includes an F4 on a 'bad'
day. Designing, building, and flying with NO motor is TOTALLY different,
and should be "Glider". Else, its a plane with good lift. And that's
Cool....yet DIFFERENT. Power "off" is not the same as never designed for
anything but silent LIFT.

All planes become gliders when the power is shut off/fuel runs out. Is the other way to view the argument. Just because this is motor assisted doesn't mean it couldn't be towed to gliding height by a "tug" plane or by a winch or even a bungee. With or without the motor, it's still a glider. The DG 808s is a real glider and was originally designed a a self launch glider. It's still a glider. ;¬)
