my dad used to say that when he was young he had never thought about being able to buy whatever he wanted to buy and have the condition we have today. Now that everything is beyond his expectation and he has more than he could ever dreamed of. He is so grateful to the effort of the government and Deng Xiaoping who opened up China. When I tried to explain how much we are grateful of everything, how much we are proud for our country and that I have never felt "oppressed", some of my European friends would just say oh you and your family are brain washed by the government and I hope there would be a revolution for China one day. As a Taiwanese I never been to China, but it doesn’t change the fact that we both from the same culture, the same root.
I admire China culture since I was very little, it’s never change till now.
Nowadays the relationship between Taiwan and China is getting worse. Especially Taiwan people they are really unfriendly to China and it’s seems not gonna getting better in anyway.
Really think it’s a pity that most of Taiwanese are not trying to get know to China any better but choose to be controlled by USA.

I have visited China in the year 2000, 2010, and 2019. China is totally different in every decade and improved beyond my imagination every time. I have been visited many countries in the world, but China got a better infrastructure and keeps improving as a modern city, even in the countryside as well.

1. 共产党内部不出现分裂，但是显然共产党内部几乎一直是分裂状态。一党制无非把党间斗争变成了党内斗争，本质是一样的，可能从影响上来讲更加恶劣些。
2. 需要有合理的晋升通道。目前由于整个政府的运作系统是下级只用对上级负责而不用对人民负责，所以晋升或者说选拔通道大部分还是裙带关系，并不透明公正。
3. 最大的逻辑问题。如果共产党执政，那么来自底层人民的党员入党后是否意味着完成了一个阶级跨越？那么该人是否有必要替底层人民发声？既然他的晋升和任免是有上级决定而非底层选举，那么他没有必要去讨好底层人民为他们发声？为底层人民发声的无非是两种人，一种是底层人民，一种是有利益瓜葛。曾经是底层人民出身和为底层人民发声没有必然的因果关系。

当下由于网络普及，新闻成为了最好的监督者之一，但是由于至上而下的不透明审查制度以及《新闻发》的缺失，这个监督渠道形同虚设。

Chinese citizens don't see criticizing their government as a thing at all because they would be imprisoned if they did. They don't want to openly and publicly criticize their government because of fear of imprisonment...hong kong book shops that sold books that criticized CCP/Xi Jinping were closed down.
very few are thinking Chinese people are living under physical oppression. The reality is the oppression of free thought rather than physical oppression. But I would also argue that China has physical oppression too...if i wanted to PEACEFULLY protest the demolition of Mosques, i would either be imprisoned or fined. Same thing were to be true if I wanted to film the re-education camps in xinjiang outside of the walls of the re-education camps.
Yes Chinese people are living in peace...they've chosen silence as a cost for peace. Yet westerners don't need to live in silence and still get to live in peace. I'm not saying Western Democracy is free from error, but if all else equals I'd much rather live in a Western Democracy than in a communistic authoritarian government where my vote and my say doesn't not mean anything at all. At least in western democracies Government and Citizens alike are able to have discussions about public policy, interpretation of the law, creation of new laws, civic duties, etc. Political tribalism has made western democracies distasteful but at least we can move towards improvement as a society rather than letting the government dictate the direction.
China is a beautiful country, just don't forget that many people (foreigners or citizens) disagree with the government and its politics...and if we aren't able to have honest discussions about the facts then modern society loses.

I walked down the same place as the Barrett. Forbidden City is a beautiful place. Daming Place palace in Xian would have been even more beautiful, unfortunately, it was burnt down hundreds of years ago.
