@@DavidTheHooman seriously, listen to every damn song this series has ever had. Red like Roses part 1 I recommend watching on it's own and with the red trailer for the show. The Red trailer was Monty's pitch for the show and Jeff wrote the song to fit the combat in the trailer. Part 1 is Ruby describing her team (Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, who represent Red, White, Black, Yellow, RWBY) via their characteristics. Part 2 is Ruby breaking down over her mother's death (which has yet to happen fully in the show, she hides this side of herself extraordinarily well). The first verse is her complaining to her mom's ghost about how she was left to fight in a battle that wasn't hers to fight, the second is her mother responding and telling Ruby to not make the same mistakes, and the third is an argument between them that allows them to sing poetically together. Ruby has done virtually everything she has done to emulate her mother without breaking down emotionally, the biggest difference between them being Summer (Ruby's mom) represents the perfection of a White Rose, while Ruby's Rose has been stained red by her mother's blood. They both wear hoods and use the same logo, only Summer has a white hood (red interior) and logo while Ruby has a red hood and logo.
Additional fun fact: It is actually Casey's mom that sings the parts form the POV of Ruby's mom in this song. When I learned that it added a whole extra layer to an already fantastic song.
I'm not sure if anyone else has commented on this but at the time this song was recorded the vocalist Casey Lee Williams would've been only 14 , as she is 21 now and this song was on the soundtrack of the first volume of rwby that released in 2013, and I am so jealous of her talent, the whole family too as the second vocalist featured is caseys mom also her dad Jeff who does all the writing guitar and harmonies

Dude, all the songs in the Yang line. They are my favorites by far. I Burn, Armed and Ready, Ignite. Actually I couldn't care less about Gold but the rest YES.
Cool little fact about the song, show lore wise it is sung between a character and her mother, and the song itself is sung by Casey and her mother. As for recommendations, I would recommend either Home for a ballad, or Divide for something heavier.
@@DavidTheHooman It really was a pet project for Monty Oum. RIP Monty. He died of a surgical mishap if I recall correctly. Its sad that he will never know just how influential his work has and will become.
I personally love divide. and the lyrics are great, they show Salems's plan and let you see how that's exactly what she is doing, and it's working. pretty scary tbh
Gotta be honest, seeing David get all excited about these songs just makes me so happy. So this song is essentially about Ruby, one of the main characters, who's lost her mother on a mission. The first verse is from Ruby's POV, while the second is her mother, Summer, talking about how she didn't want to leave her and how her sacrifice might have just made everything worse for her (can't really explain that without going into spoiler territory). The whole thing about 'petals being shattered' and 'red like roses' comes from their last name 'Rose'.

I watched the This Life Is Mine reaction and your reactions is basically my brain whenever I hear it it one of my favorite songs. It makes me happy to see someone new to RWBY getting introduced to the music. All of the songs are so meaningful and the meaning can apply to so many subjects, characters and ideas. If you are up for another RWBY reaction I highly recommend "Nevermore" or "Forever Fall" Thank you so much,God bless and Keep Being Awesome!
Casey is part of a band called "Okay Goodnight" as the lead singer. I recommend their song "Day & Night". It is so freaking good and done in her own style compared to her style in RWBY.
Awesome! So glad you're enjoying the music from RWBY. The soundtracks are always so diverse in style. Jeff Williams (the composer) loves his electric guitar, so there are a lot of rock songs, but also slow ballads, jazz tunes, pop, and dance. There's so much variety.
This reaction is Amazing, found you through your first RWBY reaction video. Would LOVE to see you react to either Nevermore, Let's Just Live, or This Will Be The Day.
what i love most about this song is that in the story, it’s supposed to be a daughter having a conversation with her mother who died when she was little, it’s kind of bittersweet
I really love your analysis and I am loving your reactions. I find them to be very insightful. If you do intend to do more analysis of RWBY songs might I recommend: - Fear from the Volume 7 Soundtrack. It is very metal but with a dark undertone, as it heralds the main villain of the series. - War from Volume 7 Soundtrack. It is very pumped up, with a high tempo and fantastic lyrics.
Amazing reaction as usual, you might need a seat belt for that chair though XD. Anyways I'm not sure if you're interested about any of the lore but how you reacted was how I reacted when I first listened to the song thinking how fire and hyped it was. Actually diving into the lyrics and putting pieces together tells a pretty sad story knowing the lore behind it, but I'm not going to get into that very much. The vocalists are Casey and her mom, who are conveniently portraying the main character and her mom in the story. The main character is surrounded by sadness and grief due to the passing of her mother and is basically speaking to her mom about how she feels. The mom then explains her sacrifice she made and how she didn't mean to burden her daughter with all this sadness. Probably the most impactful line in the song is, "It's your blood that's red like roses" giving us the title in a different perspective and a new way to interpret past lyrics as sad or dark. This is how I understood it anyways but I'll probably be corrected if not. Plus I also left out a lot just to cut the size and just do a basic explanation of the song and the lyrics behind them. Thank you for your time if you read this and keep up the great videos!
this song is one of those songs that it doesnt matter how many times u have heard it u get just as hype every single time. i still go hard to this song YEARS later.
This was so awesome! If you have any interest in reacting to more of RWBY's OST, the tracks I feel would be strongest both melodically and lyrically for those unfamiliar with the show include: Sacrifice, The Path to Isolation, and Nevermore. There are others, but I don't just want to spout a bullet list at you, so I'll leave it here. The Path to Isolation is actually about the exact same character arc as This Life Is Mine. Only, where This Life Is Mine closes said arc off, The Path to Isolation is what opens it. In any case, I look forward to whatever video you make next! (Oh! And "FlyntofRWBY" makes the best lyric videos for these songs by a long shot. He gets the lyrics straight from the guy who writes them. Even though I know you're far more focused on analyzing other elements of these tracks, it never hurts to have a more accurate source to react to.)
So happy you've started reacting to some of my all-time favorite music! Since you've come back to its beginning, I'd love to see you react to, not just the songs for them, but the four Volume 1 trailers themselves. The way the music ties into the visuals is so nice.
I love this song, always cry when i hear it. The fact that the lyrics are Ruby anger and sadness, and her mother regret for dying in duty is so emotionally overwhelming to me. And that is being singed by mother and daughter makes it so much better, Casey Lee Williams and Sandy Lee just had to be the ones singing it. Just plain genius.
Finally got the chance to watch the reaction. I always like to see people enjoying the music from rwby. There are ones I dont listen to but that's down to personal preference. They do an amazing job on all of the songs. But I still want to name a few personal favorites: Bad Luck Charm, One Thing, Let's Just Live, Miracle and a few more. I may Fall and Sacrifice are definitely good ones as well.
That drum transition is madness. Rockin out and (attempting to) drum it out in the car has me heated in full ac! I love how hard this hits you rhythmically!
Caffeine, Burn, Armed & Ready, One Thing, and Bad Luck Charm are some of my all-time faves, though if I had to pick a single song it would be One Thing burn + armed & ready are part of yang's (y in rwby) character arc, alongside weiss' and blake's.
if you like chromatics you are going to LOVE RWBY music, Jeff (who composed all but one of the lyrical tracks in RWBY) loves chromaticism A lot and has it in MANY songs
Dude I loved your reaction on this, the way you got hyped even hyped me up and I listened to this multiple times it's like when I listened to it the first time.
If you like the music, you should consider watching the show. A lot of the music gives inside details to the story and sometime give spoilers. It’s really cool to watch the show evolve as roosterteeth gets more knowledge on how to animate their own style and characters. Would highly recommend. I usually say watch the first eight episodes, by then if it’s your thing you’ll be hooked.
You're reactions are absolutely AMAZING! I've been a fan of RWBY ever since the first trailer drop (which coincidentally played to Red Like Roses part 1), and this song has long been one of my favorites. So much so that I remembered every lyric as I sung it to myself on the long drives to school and work. Watching your reaction and listening to your technical explanations has allowed me to enjoy this old favorite in a new way and appreciate things about the song I still didn't grasp until you put them into words. Thank you!
Damn! I love that song so much. Seeing your reaction to it is exactly how I felt when I first heard this song. I honestly like this song more than the whole show it came from. It's that good. Keep up the good work!
I love this one a lot because its Ruby talking to her Mother, telling her how she feels abandoned and lonely and how much she misses her but also saying she loves her so much that nothing cojld ever replace her and then we hear her mom speaking back about her regret and how she loves Ruby but she had to leave and how she never meant to be gone forever.
Idk if someone's already said this, but the coolest part of this song to me is that it's between Ruby and her dead mum. And it's sung by Casey and her mum. *chefs kiss*
I would suggest War, One Thing, or Miracle from RWBY. Because if you reacted to Red Like Roses Part 2 like this? WHOOO! You will have fun with these two.
@@noox13 If it's the tempo and instruments he enjoys best in the soundtracks, that one would probably be favourable. (I also really like that one as well)
@@noox13 Yeah. It leaves a bittersweet taste for you. That was my selling point and along with the piano. I'm trying to figure out how I can play that XD
ive listened to these rwby songs over the years but these videos have opened my eyes and helped me appreciate the songs even more. Thank you so much. I love this.
This is my favorite song from all the soundtracks that has come out. This reminds me of the early days of rwby when everything was simpler, even the music. but hearing it again now really points out how complex Jeff Williams music really is.
another one from rwby is "Forever Fall" this song always makes me cry especialy when having watched the whole series multible times and getting deep into the story and context of the song
Something I love about this song is Casey sang it with her mother and this song is a conversation in a way of Ruby with her mother who passed away when Ruby was very young. According to her sister Ruby could barely speak at the time.
I always love musicians reacting to rwby songs. The guys who make them always mess around with music theory and still make them sound epic. Then the musicians are always caught off guard somewhere.
One of the coolest things is that after the extended silent section the tune comes back in on an upbeat which makes it feel more angsty and off kilter or rushed/agitated
Love this song so much. Honestly cry every time I sing along as I relate heavily to the emotions of Ruby coping with the death of her mother at a young age which is what this whole song is about. "No matter what I do nothing takes the place of you." Hits so hard it's not even funny. I highly recommend "All Things Must Die". The beginning always gives me chills.
i love red like roses pt2, the whole songs just a conversation between a mother and a daughter. and about how sorry the mom is for leaving her and how the daughters still grieving
Recently, the volume 7 soundtrack was released! The seemingly crowd favorite is titled “War,” which is sung by four people-Casey Lee Williams, Adrienne Cowan, Erin Reilly, and Dawn M. Bennett-and it absolutely slaps! Would absolutely recommend giving it a listen.
Whenever I hear this song I remember it's a one sided conversation between mother and daughter. With the daughter being the lead and you (as the listener) hear the mother's side as well.
So I just came back to this cause a - this is my favorite RWBY song and b - you referenced this in your Treasure reaction but man! I absolutely love the excitement you let loose here. There is so much to enjoy both lyrically and musically and thank you for just being yourself and appreciating this for what it is! Can't wait to continue to watch more, ideally more RWBY once season 9 comes out ;)
these reactions are amazing! i would recommend ignite or armed and ready. those two are yang’s songs and it is so ba! or blake’s song nevermore. ignite is a song about yangs strength and determination, armed and ready is about her experience with ptsd, nevermore is about getting out from under the influence of her previous mentor, role model, and possible boyfriend.
Fun fact: Casey was 14 when she sang this song, insane
amazing reaction btw that was hilarious
I thank the RWBY community for giving me something super awesome to listen to!

@@DavidTheHooman Of course! Thank you for this amazing reaction!
This is definitely one of Jeff Williams best songs.
The memories of when I saw that first REAL battle scene in the show are coming back to me. That started my love for the show.
Lets be honest you will end doing all of the rwby volume soundtracks one song at the time, may as well do them together and in order.
Wouldn't that be weird for a relatively new channel?
@@hmmmooops Nothing wierd about that.
You're happiness and amazement was darn infectious!
I've heard the song so many times but your reactions made me smile.
Imagine if he listened to 'Lionize', 'Bad Luck Charm' or 'Divide'
this makes me so happy watching it!!!!
I'm Loving these RWBY Song Reactions, Please for the Next one do 'Divide'!
Aw, it literally makes me so happy to watch someone get super pumped about a song that I really like, especially when it's a professional musician.
Would love for you to react to Caffeine again from RWBY, season 2. There is so much going on in that song i just love it.
I've never lost my love for the music from this show but I gotta say you are rekindling my *passion* for it.
I’m gonna recommend “Miracle” from RWBY, because I haven’t seen anyone else recommend it
Ohh that's a good one, especially the piano and the one part of the song sound just like what is happening in show
So happy you've started reacting to some of my all-time favorite music! Since you've come back to its beginning, I'd love to see you react to, not just the songs for them, but the four Volume 1 trailers themselves. The way the music ties into the visuals is so nice.
i cant wait. i rlly hope u do more rwby in the future. the music is so top tier in rwby, jeff and casey are geniuses
One of my favorite songs in RWBY, I cant wait!
Caffeine, Burn, Armed & Ready, One Thing, and Bad Luck Charm are some of my all-time faves, though if I had to pick a single song it would be One Thing
burn + armed & ready are part of yang's (y in rwby) character arc, alongside weiss' and blake's.
Watching you react this much to a song really helps me to appreciate it even more. I thank you, good man
if you like chromatics you are going to LOVE RWBY music, Jeff (who composed all but one of the lyrical tracks in RWBY) loves chromaticism A lot and has it in MANY songs
Dude I loved your reaction on this, the way you got hyped even hyped me up and I listened to this multiple times it's like when I listened to it the first time.
I got school so time is going to go by fast ✨I can’t wait to see the reaction!!I love Rwby❤️
I'm watching your videos out of order but my dude I LOVE your energy! It really shows that you're passionate about music and I love it so much
You should react to either armed and ready or ignite I really think you'll love those ones
red like roses was like my favorite song when it came out and is arguably in my top 5 even today
I NEVER noticed that about the drums before. Now I know why this song gets me so pumped, the drums are amazing!!
He has to react to Sacrifice or Divide
Man, I subbed when I saw you reacting to Red like Roses. Your reaction is super genuine and I'm down with more of your content!!
Oh god “sacrifice” from season 3 would be amazing and same with “die” from season 2
4:13 gunshots of excitement lol
Where did the other RWBY music reactions go, did they get deleted? Bruh, TH-cam, for real.
Thank you!
One of my all time favorite RWBY songs is " Nevermore" I would love to see you react to it!
Damn! I love that song so much. Seeing your reaction to it is exactly how I felt when I first heard this song. I honestly like this song more than the whole show it came from. It's that good. Keep up the good work!
The girl singing in the 1st half? She was only 14/15 when she sang this.
I love this one a lot because its Ruby talking to her Mother, telling her how she feels abandoned and lonely and how much she misses her but also saying she loves her so much that nothing cojld ever replace her and then we hear her mom speaking back about her regret and how she loves Ruby but she had to leave and how she never meant to be gone forever.
ah yes... 1st of September 00:00
I hate time zones...
?
@@DavidTheHooman that's when the premiere started where I live
This is like listening to it the first time again. Love it
I would recommend the RWBY songs "Lusus Naturae", "Divide" and "All things must die". But out of all of them I would like to nominate "Divide".
It's great seeing someone from outside the community reacting to these songs the first time.
You should react to "Hero" from the season 7 soundtrack.
Dude you're awesome, and I love to see your reactions. Keep it up! :)
I personally enjoy the soundtrack "Die" take listen if you would.
Idk if someone's already said this, but the coolest part of this song to me is that it's between Ruby and her dead mum. And it's sung by Casey and her mum. *chefs kiss*
Bro I think you should react to the rwby songs hero for ironwood or sacrifice for Pyrrha both by the same people (Casey/Jeff Williams)
I love that ruby and summer’s lines match with Casey and her own mum singing, just adds so much to the depth of feels.
I would suggest War, One Thing, or Miracle from RWBY. Because if you reacted to Red Like Roses Part 2 like this? WHOOO! You will have fun with these two.
I really liked Miracle!
@@noox13
If it's the tempo and instruments he enjoys best in the soundtracks, that one would probably be favourable.
(I also really like that one as well)
@@Ceri-the-Bookworm
What really made me love it was that part after the half way point that gives me massive Lusus Naturae vibes!
@@noox13
Yeah. It leaves a bittersweet taste for you. That was my selling point and along with the piano. I'm trying to figure out how I can play that XD
@@Ceri-the-Bookworm
Indeed.
ive listened to these rwby songs over the years but these videos have opened my eyes and helped me appreciate the songs even more. Thank you so much. I love this.
also, what is the number in the top left for?
I May Fall. Sung by father and daughter
I love this song. I always cry. I think of my own Mother every time
I would, personally, like to see you react to Mirror Mirror part 2 from RWBY.
These are the cutest reactions I've ever seen in my life. Subscribed.
I love the fact that you don’t wear shoes and that you jumped from your seat. I don’t know why, but it’s so relatable.
Something I love about this song is Casey sang it with her mother and this song is a conversation in a way of Ruby with her mother who passed away when Ruby was very young. According to her sister Ruby could barely speak at the time.
honestly just do everything cause i love your reactions and i love these songs. thank you so much!
I would recommend watching the show the scene where they play this song is an epic piece of art and the lyrics play so well into everything going on
Love this song so much.
So I just came back to this cause
a - this is my favorite RWBY song
and b - you referenced this in your Treasure reaction
but man! I absolutely love the excitement you let loose here. There is so much to enjoy both lyrically and musically and thank you for just being yourself and appreciating this for what it is! Can't wait to continue to watch more, ideally more RWBY once season 9 comes out ;)
I LOVE your reactions men, you really conect to the emotion of the songs and its funny too
This reaction was everything😂😂 I already subscribed. Well done
these reactions are amazing! i would recommend ignite or armed and ready. those two are yang’s songs and it is so ba! or blake’s song nevermore. ignite is a song about yangs strength and determination, armed and ready is about her experience with ptsd, nevermore is about getting out from under the influence of her previous mentor, role model, and possible boyfriend.
Divide and Hero are beautiful tracks that personify the respective characters.
Awesome reaction, such a mood.
Oh also BMBLB is super wholesome.
