Even I am not Singaporean, but I really touched this eulogy by his grandson. As a youngster, I can feel the lost of a lovely and high respected Grandfather. Hope Mr Lee Hsien Loong and families can keep the fighting spirit of Mr Lee Kuan Yew to unite the Singapore as an outstanding country in Asia #rememberingLKY #RIPLKY
It's So touching, even my grandma do not know English, tears rolling down her cheek after listening....I explained to her it's the close relationship nd love for his ye ye, Mr Lee kuan yew...rest in peace...
Had the pleasure of meeting Lee Kuan Yew many years ago and he kindly signed a photo with both of us when he arrived for Commonwealth Conference in Vancouver. His Grandson’s speech was touching and I wish him every success in the future.
Li ShengWu"s eulogy has a more polished delivery filled with flowery sentences that leaves no doubt in the audience that he is a bright young mind but I get the feeling that if Li HongYi is to go into politics, he will be able to connect better with the common folk....I for one am praying for more great leaders from the Lee family...Mahjulah Singapura!!!
His eulogy moved me to tears. For those who lost their loved ones shared his thoughts. My father passed away 3months ago and I fully understood how he felt. I admired his courage for being able to deliver the eulogy to few hundred people. At the same time, trying to hold back his tears.
I've had the rarely odd chance to catch a glimpse of Hongyi during his time in Signal Institute whilst back there seeking help for some unit matters.. Struck me as a very impressive, honest and humble young man with a good work ethic.. First to fall-in, constantly motivating and rallying his fellow trainee cadets.. No hint of slack at all, unlike many others who've gone through the system with his type of background and status.. Proud to have him as part of the Signal Corps... On a side note, he was pretty scrawny then, being very tall and very thin, glad to see he's now nicely buffed up...
A fine young man Li Hong Yi - impressive touching eulogy for the grandfather whom you very dearly loved and admired. you are frank and honest like your Ye Ye Yes you are right all the way Your Ye Ye was a great man admirable as a leader and as a loving husband, father and grandfather...a .great loss to Singapore and the world at large.. A great soul stilled....Singaporeans will miss him forever. We will cherish his memories and his amazing life. We will celebrate his life and his nation building of Singapore for generations to come.
Well delivered... Li Hong Yi's words were carefully chosen, concise and understandable. He is like his late grandfather, a man of substance without the need for charming people with style, be it with words or with appearences. The man that the late Mr. Lee Kuan Yew was to Singaporeans, was the same man that he was as a grandfather to his grandchildren.
I wouldn't say it's more humane than Shengwu's. I think they're both equally humane, but they have different writing and speaking styles. Shengwu is extremely erudite, so he can't help but bring that into his eulogy. Its like telling a flower not to bloom when the spring comes. He was choking up with grief, but didn't let the tears come out. That doesn't mean it was any less emotional than Hongyi's though.
The road of a Great political Leader is long and arduous. The journey can only be sustained and completed by one with unwavering conviction to protect and care for mankind. The wealth of such great man is gratefulness and blessings from masses, and the warmth and happiness within his own heart. Mr Li Hong Yi's speech have glimpses of his grandfather's oratory skills. He was able to move the audience. I will not be surprised that given time, he may be as good or better than his grandfather. However, It is a very tall order for any man to take the road of Lee Kuan Yew as 99.99% of us would rather chose material wealth. The ball is at his feet and Singapore has to wait and see what tomorrow will bring.
This speech is very much a good reflection and also might be the next bright spark for leadership and a potential for the future. Keep good seeds at bay for the near future. With sincere expression and clear echos of LKY to him...
Mrs Lee Kuan Yew, when Mr Lee was the founding Prime Minister, the SM & MM, NEVER made any public comments about Singapore or other countries. She was extremely smart: the 1947 Queen's Scholar for Malaya and Singapore, graduating with First Class Honours from Cambridge University.Yet She never took any GLC CEO job though she could get one any time she wanted-- her husband was all powerful. The truth is that she loved Singapore and her husband's credibility more than she loved power and showboating. She was a wise lady who set an excellent example for others in her position to follow. We salute Mrs Lee Kuan Yew. May her love of Singapore and her fine example be emulated.
It's comforting to know that Mr Lee surrounds his family and grandchildren with his thoughts, values and strong principles. And more comforting if there are capable grandchildren who wish to carry on his footsteps. I agree with the comments that being taught to see through frivolities and materialism, Lee Hong Yi can connect with the less fortunate like Mr Lee if he decides to go into politics.
After listening to both hongYi and shengwu, it reminds me that one is like a warrior, with great presence and forcefullnes, the other is like a shrewd thinker, advisor with a quiet but intoxicating presence, there is a certain charisma about them both. I'll vote for them, shengwu can be PM and hongYi DPM.
Very heartfelt speech..May Singaporeans grow stronger, more cohesive and wiser as a people. We shall not let our country and founding father, Mr Lee Kwan Yew down.
the most wonderful and loving moment I have seen is when Mdm Ho Ching came up to cheer her son to continue the speech. Mother's love is fully shown in this video, no need any beautiful words or action, just a warm touch and the son could feel the love from his mum.
Good speech and presentation Hongyi. Pl do take on politics and take forward the baton of what your YeYe and PaPa have done for Singapore and the world. I wish you all the best and my support, for a glorious leadership for Singapore.
Hi Mr Li Hongyi, If you really wanted to follow your father and your grandfather footsteps than have the courage to contest for the coming election and we will give you our full support and we believe you can do it and fulfilled your dreams! Forever MM Lee Kuan Yew supporter - Jo Leng.
Hope either of them can cont with their YeYe's passion, positive..etc ,follow their way n bring a brighter, better, stronger , united Singapore~ Lee/Li's Family N Singapore ATW ~Fighting! +u~
Li Hong Yi and Sheng Wu focus and objective for an eulogy is completely different. Generally both focus is on what LKY impart to them such as knowledge and virtue that is important and relevant to many deeply important issue of an nation. However, there clearly a subtle different. Hong Yi speech is having his sentiment flow out like river and letting other people deeply emerge in it and realized his grandpa is like the strong and rigid rock of virtue and knowledge. The connection between him and his grandpa is like the ever flowing water stream of sincerity and caring. The greatness of the river that reflect his grandpa to him will never end, because his grandpa greatness is as important as the connection, memories and guidance that they share which will always sustain the river flow together. Sheng Wu speech is basically like any typical politician speech, that always try to reflect the greatness of LKY to their own individual knowledge and wisdom. The real connection that established is only their capabilities to LKY greatness.
What a pity that family feud prevents this excellent candidate to a leader of Singapore. His voice is sonorous, his character appears to be emphathetic. His size is impressive.
I guess, any person who's eulogy by a child/ grandchild mentions 1/10th of the qualities mentioned here - has definitely had a successful life. God bless.
We don't know when we r child ...and When we know when youth n can't find the best way and When we r elder still can handling !!!! But only she's know as well. ... We can handle . .. That's person 6 a god that's oust mother :) thank god
I like PM Lee, but with all respect, i don't think Li Hongyi would be good for Singapore as a leader. His facial features reveal several unsettling nature of his characters and current state of mind. With all due respect.
Lee Kwan Yew is a good leader for Singapore, and what he did has shown a possibility that a poor country can be prosperous without following the political institutions of western countries like America.
I think you take after your yeye's no frills speech! How lucky you are to have such a man to be your grandpa! I wish you well in your future endeavours! I understand that your family may be in a bit of crisis now but hey, it's a small storm to weather through compared to your Grandpa during the Japanese occupation and the time he had to build Singapore up! Jiayou! =)
His eulogy is very different from that by LI Shengwu; their accents are also very different; because this speaker is doing very typical Singaporean accent, just like his father does!
I think he was more troubled by his flowing nose than by his anguish over losing his grandfather. I know how it feels in front of the public when you cannot just wipe it off or clean it up. And that's not shameful.
Unfortunately, i don't know his grandfather at all....🤔🤔🤔 But he look very painful after his grandfather death. Very sad. Pitiful.... very very sad 😔😔😔😔 i think many people need to see this to share the painful emotions.
I think the PMO should consider removing these videos(other videos by non public folks) from TH-cam. To avoid unnecessary speculation and allegations from others.
sicp reader it was intentional, they didnt want the grandchildren to tap on the "Lee" name nor have the "Stigma" or the "branding" because of "Lee", whether good or bad
"I have taught my children never to mention or flaunt their relationship to their grandfather, that they needed to make their way in the world only on their own merits and industry. I have suggested to them that when asked whether they might be related to Lee Kuan Yew, perhaps a good gambit was to say truthfully, that their surname is spelt "Li", "Lee" and that "Li" is one of the most common Chinese surnames, without actually responding directly to the question. This suggested response was not meant to mislead and obfuscate, rather it was born out of a desire to be recognized for who we are as individuals and not for who we are related to. We are immensely proud of Papa and his achievements, and yet perhaps it is part of our DNA to seek our own way in life. I am sure that Papa would not have wanted it any other way." Hope this helps (:
He sounds so much like his own father and shares the same passion to serve like his father's and grandfather. A very emotional and heartfelt sharing.
Agreed.
agree with u
Maybe he will be the future PM

Made me tear. So human and and heartfelt with no flowery language needed. Stay strong and proud of Mr Lee's work of a lifetime. :')

A speaking voice just like his father and Grandfather. :)
The voice and the tone runs in the family.
So beautiful and so heartfelt.

Must be like yr grandpa
Our founding father
A fine young man Li Hong Yi - impressive touching eulogy for the grandfather whom you very dearly loved and admired. you are frank and honest like your Ye Ye

agree!
My sentiments :'(

Hongyi's tender love for ye ye and what he says contribute to his grandpa's greatness tug at my heartstrings and give me hope in Singapore's future.
Respectable Man. hopefully a future leader of Singapore that follows in his grandfathers footsteps #rememberinglky
Follow your grandfather's foot step and make him proud!
can feel his love for his ye ye.

Feeling emotion with Li Hongyi's eulogy, can see he loves and misses his yeye so much :'(

Looks and sounds just like his dad and grandad. Straight forward eulogy, no need for lyricals. Well spoken clearly and simply for the ordinary folks.

Singapore needs more young people like you in the cabinet ..
I have to deliver a Eulogy tomorrow and this is so inspiring to see, because he allowed his emotion to show through. Thank you.
I love lee kuan yew.
May God Keep His soul in peace.
Feel so good with this young man!
Even today I am always respecting lky ...the one and only true leader... I can feel his sadness in the passing of his grandpa ❤
Very heartfelt speech..May Singaporeans grow stronger, more cohesive and wiser as a people. We shall not let our country and founding father, Mr Lee Kwan Yew down.
He lives in our heart
i admired him for all i have now
Just like how Lee kuan Yew inspired you, you inspire me. To bad I am 5 years late
Definitely a PM in the making!
Speak with so much passion and sincere. Mr. Lee will be proud.
Hi, Hong Yi, speak in a measured pace and give stress to the deserving sounds. That's how your yeye charmed and captivated us. You could do it too.
the most wonderful and loving moment I have seen is when Mdm Ho Ching came up to cheer her son to continue the speech. Mother's love is fully shown in this video, no need any beautiful words or action, just a warm touch and the son could feel the love from his mum.
Agree that his eulogy was more touching than Shengwu's. PM material..both of them.
This guy seems trustworthy .

A true breed of Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
Compare to Li Shengwu's eulogy, I was so much more touched by this
Hope he and his cousin would join the politics and continue what their grandfather, our Father has left behind. They are such intelligent people.
What a pity that family feud prevents this excellent candidate to a leader of Singapore. His voice is sonorous, his character appears to be emphathetic. His size is impressive.

I think he sounds more like Mr Lee Kwan Yee. Yup very emotional and Heartfelt sharing
He will become a great man like his Ye Ye.
I like PM Lee, but with all respect, i don't think Li Hongyi would be good for Singapore as a leader. His facial features reveal several unsettling nature of his characters and current state of mind. With all due respect.
Hsien Yang's son as can be seen here, a leader in the making. Hongyi is lovable but hasn't quite the same cut, not yet.
fajar10 OMG! Finally someone spells it all out for me. Thank you! Yes. This is exactly how i feel, too.
Lee Kwan Yew is a good leader for Singapore, and what he did has shown a possibility that a poor country can be prosperous without following the political institutions of western countries like America.
Oops......sorry......should be HongYi to be PM and Shengwu to be DPM.....
***** Neither one of them should be anything. Give them a break. Do they even want a life in Singapore politics?
Poor guy. Feel so sorry for him.
伟大的国父❤🙏永远在人民心中❤新加坡国人的骄傲🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Oh yes, a very handsome man indeed. Sure to win women's votes. :)
Very sad don't cry

I think he was more troubled by his flowing nose than by his anguish over losing his grandfather. I know how it feels in front of the public when you cannot just wipe it off or clean it up. And that's not shameful.
Lee family!

Lky is the best no matter singapore never give up cause of him
我看了很多次,发现他的手指很像他父亲。
you know me and I knew you well. Yes we have have our duties to carry out... Selvam
Who's son is this? Grandson of LKY?
Grandson of LKY and son of Mr Lee Hsien Loong
lee hsien loong's
Thank you...but why is his surname Li and not Lee?
He does his father and grand father proud.
Janie Liew-Tsonis they uses the chinese romanization, Lee in pinyin (romanization) is Li
Why they change the family name to li?
And you would know because.......
Come on give him a break the poor gig just lost his grandfather !
I think the PMO should consider removing these videos(other videos by non public folks) from TH-cam. To avoid unnecessary speculation and allegations from others.

爷爷👴、奶奶👵! Their grandchildren called them that.
No. Please. No.
Is it Li or Lee ?
Li :)
Perhaps Li was written as Chinese Han Yu Pin Yin.
sicp reader it was intentional, they didnt want the grandchildren to tap on the "Lee" name nor have the "Stigma" or the "branding" because of "Lee", whether good or bad
