- In this episode, Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen dive into the breaking news that Alex Bowman has been disqualified after his car failed to meet minimum weight requirements. Bowman’s Playoffs run is over, and the guys break down how this happened, along with the controversial benefits of a lighter car in the heat of competition.
Meanwhile, Kyle Larson secures his second NASCAR Playoffs win of the season, dominating the field once again. But things didn’t go as smoothly for Denny Hamlin, who got clipped by Tyler Reddick in Stage 1. Denny reveals just how close he was to seeing his Playoffs hopes fade and what was going through his mind when Kyle Busch applied heavy pressure in the final laps.
Reddick didn’t back down either, coming from the back to avoid elimination, and putting on a show in the process. As the Round of 8 gets set, Denny believes the star-studded cast is exactly what fans want to see, but Jared puts him on the spot-who does he think will make it to the final four?
Plus, the guys discuss NASCAR’s track limits controversy, and whether William Byron got a free pass right after Bubba Wallace was penalized. And don’t miss the story behind Parker Kligerman’s heartbreak on Saturday-his walk-off win hopes were crushed by a last-second caution that changed everything.

The instant cut after "Has Hendrick ever lost an appeal?" lol
Ok so i have to say this: i was a Denny hater for YEARS... And then i started watching AD.... Now that i get the perspective of Denny, I'm finding myself more and more of a Denny fan. Keep it up😊
Im right there with you. I think that with Dale Jr. wanting Denny to do this podcast was almost 4D chess. Denny has great perspectives, and more importantly, honest takes about everything, which in the long form avenue to explain, giving haters/fans a better understanding of Denny.
Absolutely want to see the best 4 drivers battle it out
Weighing in on the underdog discussion: I love it when underdogs win the race - but at the end of the day I want the championship to go to someone who I feel has been the best driver over all the races that season
There is so much to unpack when it comes to the lack of legitmacy with the NASCAR playoffs and why it isn't a good system to crown a champion...
Loved hearing Denny be honest about his skills at the roval, great questions as always guys. Fire episode. A11 In
I want to see the best 4 race for a championship, now we get 8, go get it Denny.
I love seeing Denny laid back and laughing. He's normally a chess player with laser focus and concentration; and there's nothing wrong with either.
Denny hit on something about the underdog vs Cinderella thing. Kulwicki had a heroic season. That's not the same thing as a team that wins the championship with 9 top tens.
@@ashketchumsdad yeah kulwicki was an underdog in terms of his team but in terms of that season and how well he ran, he wasnt an underdog on the track. He led 1200 laps that season.
Too many ppl would like to see a random guy, that has no business winning a championship, actually win the championship. I'm not saying Bowman hasn't had a solid year but in all reality he isn't a serious champion threat. He's only led 66 laps. Say it's Larson, Hamlin, Bell, and Bowman in the final 4. Does he really belong in the conversation of the other 3?
@@Ka_Gg Nascar just needs to get away from this elimination format
@@ashketchumsdad oh yeah, the whole playoff system is a complete joke. It de legitimizes the championship in my opinion. What's a hypothetically Alex Bowman made the next round and somehow won the championship. Would we really look back at him and put him in the same category as Kyle larson, Kyle busch, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon etc?
Now, I would have to double-check the stats from last season but I don't recall Ryan Blaney being great last season either
@@Ka_Gg no he didn't set the world on fire
Klingerman got screwed so bad I don't remember it happening worse then that ever. Maybe I'm not remembering but this was all time shitty moment for NASCAR.
The car was stuck in the tires, that was a caution. It's just confusing why it took nascar so long to call it. Regardless it was a caution so this notion that Parker got screwed out of a win is false.
All they had to do to avoid and complaints or controversies was throw the Yellow as soon as that car buried itself in the tire pack.. he was not getting out of that ... but nascar waiting till Parker was 6" from the line.. bad look...
@jimmirogers3485 That's really pretty much it honestly
The only issue that someone should have a NASCAR in this is that they waited so long to throw the caution. There was clearly a caution that should have been called, but the fact that they waited until he was a fraction of an inch before the line is comical
@@jimmirogers3485 alos opens the possibly of a race being rigged
Everyone keeps missing this GIGANTIC point- if AB had his car 16lbs under weight to begin with, and whatever fell off was only 2lbs, then bingo. It didn’t have to be a heavy component that fell off. It just had to be a component heavy enough to put him at ~17lb wherever he was to begin with. There’s your appeal.
I was thinking the same thing!!!
Correct! A 1.1lb piece of sheet metal/ballast is all that had to come off. Not sure how nobody has thought about this by now.
But where is the debris on the track then?
@@adamxx3I saw a video on X that shows two separate small pieces flying off on McDowell’s car cam. They need to use the video footage and recover those pieces!!!
If it's a ballast that fell off he's cooked anyway... that will still get a post race weight DQ plus losing a ballast is a crew member suspension and heavy fines ... losing ballast is big no,no
The TV broadcast showing why bubba was penalized and then crickets when it showed Byron doing basically the same thing was hilarious. And then Nascar's response saying his tires were touching the red/white only adds to the confusion. Byron's front tire definitely didn't, however the rear tire was close but why would Nascar try to justify the non-call by saying both did... When the video clearly shows otherwise
if i recall, that was on the same corner, was it not? with the 24 two cars behind him?
Yes you guys are both correct! I noticed the same thing
also 6 also missed the turn
Youre saying the line should be more ambiguous?
I love denny Hamlin's accent coming out after saying jagwires 😀
1:01:40 denny's face is utterly hilarious here and the pure crap being spewed by nascar LOL
Damn, you got this out quick this week😭
Your insights and candor about your own skillsets and opportunities are refreshing. Really glad you do this podcast!
I was at the track during the xfinity race. They showed the 42 in the tires on the giant screen while the leaders were in the chicane (directly below the screen). Honestly no excuse.
This guy Travis should dress as a NASCAR official when he's doing Denny's show.😂😂
😂😂
Let’s go Denny!! These next few tracks line up perfectly for you! You can do it
Denny Hamlin has done well at the upcoming four tracks.
They Lined Up Well For Him Last Year Aswell Untill Bad luck got him eliminated
Not that you’re wrong. But I feel like you can say that for just about everyone else who made it through
@@MCC-fo1oe True
Doesn’t have the it factor
People with better insight would have to school me on this. Are worn tires lighter than fresh ones, what about cars having fenders and trunk lids taken off due to damage? And as an aside, how did Stenhouse keep his win even though missing side impact foam? Nascar's rules seem to be enforced only to achieve a predetermined outcome.
Worn tires have less rubber than new ones, so yeah worn are lighter. Id suspect big items +17lbs get thrown in the car before weighting it.
Denny is dead on about the underdog stories. In racing, we want to see the best drivers contend for the title. We want the best of the best, to legitimize the champion.
i love how denny said 'detrimental' like 10 times in post-race interviews
Dude mad respect about 30-33 minute Mark.. He flat out said it and struggles on RDC it was His ability!! He owned it and took creditability. Talking how he never takes ownership he Just did it!
I respect that, but not calling anything that's not an oval a "wild card". The skillset has broadened, and that's a good thing.
@TugaAvenger wild card for him ordinarily but yeah I get What you're saying
No more win and your in. You just get extra playoff points . Regular season champion gets automatic final 4 spot. Winning the regular season championship should stand for more .
In the Xfinity race, that Honeyman car was in the barrier after the bridge in the apex of turn 3. I drove a racecar on that track Friday night and there was a corner worker there, right before the bridge. I know, because I waved to each of them on our cool down lap. If they were there for that, I promise you they were there for your race.
Nothing is more frustrating than Denny continuing to pronounce that word as FUSStrating. 🤣
I’ve heard him say FLUStrated before. I have a coworker that says it the same way lol.
I root for underdog everytime! I want to see anyone BUT LARSON...because Nascar organization wants Hendericks driver to win! So Nascar can say the dominator won the season.
That why #11 Denny Hamlin has got to keep going for THE CHAMPSHIP!
Penske has won the past two championships. I wouldn’t mind either Kyle Larson winning 2 championships or even Denny Hamlin finally winning the championship.
Learn English please nothing you said made sense
I feel tired seeing Larson winning. I want to see underdog Hamlin finally win a championship. I would have loved to see Truex go out on top.
2021 was tough year for you I'm guessing
No. 2021 would've been nice but at the end of the day the seasons clearly dominant car won
2018 was bad. And 2019 was the worst.
Don't get me started on just how effing close MTJ was to 3 in a row
I wish we could load pics. Pain is having a 2019 Homestead prerace pic of the 19s garage with sets of tires laid out ready to go
The mistake that cost the most dominant car I have ever seen on a racetrack is in that pic
Still A11 In! Four more races until Denny gets his championship and I win my $100 bet for him to win it all, placed when the season started! LET’S GO!
Hope this is the year Denny Hamlin finally gets the championship.
Sorry but you're gonna be crying on the Walmart floor once again this year
Good driver, but the worst driver to bet on for a championship.
Hendrick will not appeal is the latest word
please interview svg it be awesome
Hell Yeah
Denny Hamlin it's time you and Michael Jordan start your own series of racing. Compete against NASCAR!
Please don't do this. We already have the CARS tour.
Yeah cause Tony and Ray did great!
So happy you made it! Lulu is bringing the good luck now 😂
I’m up for Denny Hamlin winning the 2024 championship.
@@bighand1530agreed! Would love to see Denny finally win it
@@bighand1530Same
In my eyes & mind & will always be. Klingerman won that race
Denny really does have the perfect mindset for the future direction of Nascar. I just hope they listen. #AllIN
Larson isn't 39. Come on guys. 32. Born 1992
😂
Denny is spot on wanting to see the best of the best battle for the championship. But everyone loves a cinderella/comeback/underdog story. Nascar racing used the be only place where you could get both especially with the season long points format. If a struggling, back marker team won a race it would still make their season great. But it was still the cream of the crop battling for the championship.
The problem with the current system is that it gives not just an underdog, but an underdog that shouldn't be anywhere close to a championship a shot at it.
This will be like a team in football going 2 and 15 but they beat the Chiefs in one of the games so they make the playoffs.
You literally can’t compare this to football because no NFL team would ever make the playoffs with only 1 win, unlike NASCAR where that’s literally all it takes.
A big chuck of something flew out from beneath Bowman’s car when he slammed the ground. He also said that was the hardest hit he’s ever had including wrecks.
Alex Bowman was flying.
Remember back in the day when Robby Gordon was complaining about the Indy Racing League because Danica was much lighter than everyone else? Unlike NASCAR, the IRL didn’t include the driver weight in the total weight of the car.
Re the owners championship race. I am an avid fan. If I miss a cup race something extraordinary has happened. I travel to go watch 2 3 4 races a year in person, play in a money fantasy league , listen to Sirius 90 , listen to this podcast and other nascar podcasts a couple of times a week. In the ten years I have been doing that, the owners championship has been a topic of conversation between myself and my equally avid buddies exactly zero times
Denny's right, even if the track is beneficial to the underdog driver, I'd still rather see the 4 best drivers from that season, than 3 of the best and 1 guy who gambled at a race in the previous round and snuck in. Consistency is an underrated measure in NASCAR so you could make the argument that Blaney wasn't one of the top 4 drivers last year but he got hot at the right time. If Bowman were to have gone on to have snuck into the Champ4, we can probably agree he wasn't a top 4 driver this season but he figured it out at the right time and that's what matters.
The 48 lost some lead shot on the track, maybe? LOL
Yes that's exactly what I had to happened to me I had to subscribe again after being a subscriber for quit a few years but I'm subscribed again so I can txt comments and watch and listen to the jared & denny show
Ps I would like to thank you guys for taking a few minutes out of your time to care about my issues with utube but I'm back so I so appreciate that and I'm sure all your other fans feel the same you guys have no idea how much this meant to me for emailing me especially a guy from niagara Falls Ontario Canada you guys have great fans from all over the world so again I so appreciate your time thanks

So there’s drivers and there’s owners and some drivers are or become good owners.
Denny Hamlin displays some pretty good executive management skills.
Henrick is well qualified to CHEAT!
Exactly they have been doing it for years😂
Has VEGAS "sports betting" made its way into Nascar, and now we always have very questionable officiating!?!?!
As a fan of motorsports I want to see the best guys duke it out for the championship, if an underdog has an outstanding year and can go head to head with the regular guys those are great stories
It's fun to see an underdog win races. It's better to see the most dominate car win the championship
So if a car wrecks and they saw off half the front end how does that car make weight at the end of a race or is there a different inspection process when a car is damaged???
That one goid comment from DH, they changed the rule to fit the playoff. I will add, to fit who NASCAR wanted in the playoff.
In drag racing they say every 100 pounds lost equals a 10th of a second gain.
💯
Interesting
Same story here, didn't like Denny, now love him. Rooting hard for a championship. LFG!!
So I have never been in the broadcast trailer but have seem some smaller broadcast setups. NASCAR need an official in the trailer working with the broadcast team they have every camera angle available. And like the DBC guys said yes it's hard to just watch the program feed of the Broadcast because they show replays of wrecks during the race. Which could cause more cauos but if the official is in the broadcast booth he will know what they are about to show and not jump the gun.
Listened all year. I enjoy your show very much. Would be pretty awesome and a little bit ironic to see you holding the trophy at Phoenix.
Thank you
Bowman's 1-2lb part is somewhere else on track
Congratulations on making the 8!!!
Thanks!!
DO we not remember when Nascar offered in car camera streaming for every driver, and there were still missed calls that talking heads were going after?
I'm sad the topic wheel didn't come out this week :(
The towing back to the garage or pit stall is ridiculous.
I agree with Hamlin, I wanna see the best of the best duke it out for the championship. Cinderella’s are great through the first two rounds but when it comes down to it, I wanna see the absolute best driver win it all.
Thanks for the early upload!!
Absolutely want the best to win!
Are they at a Denny’s?
Or just at Denny’s?
I want a grand slam and a nap watching this.
Now Bowman can be an enforcer for the other 3 teammates!
Let’s go Denny
The lead shot trick
I really wish the final 4 was 3 races long instead of just 1, i feel that would be so much better
I think everybody's going to Cabo 😂 What's there that all the drivers flock to ? Enjoy and be safe.
Denny Hamlin Is Awesome
The answer to "So they made one mistake" will forever be "Bucky Dent".
Will nascar be able to tell them where the car was light? Left side, right side ect
How do I get my hands on a DHR hat or the sweet Toyota/Jordan gear?
If the rule was the same at talladega with the pit box or garage would the round of 8 be the same 8🤔
Reddick's drive through the field would have been impressive if half the caes actually raced him for the positions and points.
I'm sure the spotters saw the car in the tires
Best idea is the original chase. Top 10 or 12 reset on points and hash it out in a 10 race mini season.
And here's a question: If this were to happen in Phoenix to the Champion, would they take away the championship? I don't think they would because they already did the the whole song and dance on live tv about how they're the champion. It would be such a bad look for the company and brand, I have no doubt they'd hide that there was even an infraction.
So I can watch and listen the great Dh hey Dh we love u from Niagara Falls canada here
Man not a great week to have the number 48 on the side of your car.
Jimmie Johnson: I’m going to need you to bring them out again.
(Guys roll out a cart with 7 championship trophies)
Jimmie: I’m sorry what were you saying again?
I'm just saying, with the Bowman DQ and the Kligerman heartbreak, 48 seemed to be an unlucky number this weekend.
What part of "this week" don't u comprehend...he didn't say all time like u state by mentioning Johnson's stupid cup campionships@@chloe-stephlis6281
Thru the course of the season there were 8 drivers who showed elite level across multiple tracks and track types. 7 of the 8 are your final 8. That's a pretty strong endorsement of the playoff system as a whole. And the 8th was not the 22 or the 48. It was the 19, who despite being winless was metrically the best car for about the first third of the season but who then went from great to mediocre and then to a travesty
Since I live near Cabo, see you all down there.. 😎

Same here. I would prefer seeing and hearing from Trevor Lawrence than I would with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
Maybe if they released actual Jaguars onto the field
I agree with Denny this is the best of 8
50:44 Jared nails it
Being 17+ pounds below minimum weight is pretty suspicious lol. I dont see any way possible for you to lose that much weight other than cheating 😂 plus in formula one 10 kilos costs about 3 tenths of a second per lap im sure its less than that in nascars but over 100 lap race even if you gained between 1-2 tenths a lap thats still around 15 seconds
Alex Bowman is not a small guy.
@@bighand1530driver weight isn't measured with the car lol
You are allowed to be 0.5% below minimum weight. Gurantee all top teams are right near that edge. So he probably only lost like 3-4 pounds from damage and BAM disqualified
@@zachbishop5421 I don’t quite get what happened yesterday where now Alex Bowman is out and Joey Logano is back in.
They allow them to be -17 pounds off the spec weight, safe to assume majority of cars use up that allowance so let’s say majority are -15 off spec weight and don’t plan on something falling off the car. With NASCAR allowing the 48 team to top off all fluids they might be only 1-5 pounds lighter
Denny you are wrong. The final 4 in the championship race at phoenix is Larson, Bell, Hamlin, Reddick
Love the flying 11
People talk about "he wouldn't have run the way he did if he lost weight by losing stuff off the car" Bowman ran like crap after hitting the turtles. He ran just decent enought to stay in it. He wasn't competitive anymore
Through the race lots of them did similar to what Bubba did and didn't get called to stop or flagged.
Hey DJ have you ever had issues with weight on your car?
I would love to watch a Wood Bros car be a Final Four underdog.
Let's try this 1 more time hey Denny hamlin have u ever had issues with weight with your car?
Travis, you do know we are in the big 10? We are not that great. We are just coddled in a series that makes us think we are good. lol
I don't get how bowman car was light
..aren't they run through a scanner or something b4 the race ???????
Imo if only 1 person has the authority to throw a caution, then that person should have a monitor for every camera in front of them. So if someone below them says car in the barriers camera 18, they can look immediately at the that monitor and throw it within seconds.
It sounds like they have a bunch of individuals looking at a single camera. Theb when something happens, they have to physically walk over to that person to verify, or scramble through tabs on a computer to find the right feed. If that's not the case, then I really don't understand how that long of a delay happened.
I want the best to win. I hate the GWC'S and overtime.
The chaos at the end of a race with the yellows and multiple overtimes just takes away from the quality of the full race.
Lighter weight means better fuel mileage, tire wear and speed. Rules are made for breaking and so are repercussions for violations.
