    I know its a old video but had to comment as seeing the BR green Flying Scotsman brought back so many memories.
    Back in the 70's & early 80's my layout took up the entire spare room & my favourite locos were my Flying Scotsman & a Battle of Britain class Winston Churchill.
    Why oh why did I let my parents sell all my locos and railway modelling stuff all those years ago.
    Superb to see one the same as mine running. Thank you for bringing back all the happy railway modelling memories.
    I only wish I had the space to build a layout today.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh glad to hear that Paul - it really does suit Scotsman doesn't it?? Glad it brought back memories! :D
      Thanks for watching - Sam :)

      @@SamsTrains Agreed the darker BR green really does suit the model but most people seem to prefer the LNER colour scheme.
      Thank you Sam I am getting my model train fix by watching your videos.
      Maybe one day I will work out a way of having my own small layout, N gauge possibly as its smaller.

    Great video Sam. I'm old enough to remember when they were released by a Triang Hornby. Great fuss was made at the time of differences between two variants. The BR one had the non corridor tender the LNER one , the corridor tender. The LNER one was so succesfull that Triang Hornby introduced the big 4 colour schemes on their models after that, previously they'd all been BR livery

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Russell, thanks very much for the comment - that's a good point about all the early ones being in BR - I'd never noticed that before! Thank goodness they did model the older liveries in the end!
      All the best mate,
      Sam :)

    I really like Flying Scotsman's LNER Apple Green and Wartime Black liveries, but I would really like to see Flying Scotsman in its rarely seen and worn BR Passenger Blue livery.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, yeah what a good idea BR blue is - that really would be fantastic - I guess it'd make the traditionalists a little angry though lol!

    This was the Flying Scotsman when it was in the BR days around the late 1940s and most other locomotives went into a BR Green Blue or Black and have a 5 digit running number. I love the BR Green with the black wheels. :D

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep that's absolutely right - I quite like it in this livery too!! :D

    Hello again Sam,
    I really love your Flying Scotsman video, I think your Triang Flying Scotsman in BR Brunswick Green looks awesome, strong & powerful.
    The livery of Flying Scotsman I prefer is the LNER Apple Green and the original number 4472, it's makes the locomotive very well recognised to steam railway enthusiasts.
    I went on the Flying Scotsman at the East Lancashire Railway back in October, that was great fun back then.
    Once again and as always, I love your video and give it 10/10 and 5 stars. ⛤⛤⛤⛤⛤😃👍

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jordan, thanks very much again mate for the very kind words - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Yes the LNER livery is the more traditional one - and normally that is the favourite I think!
      It's so awesome that you got to ride her too - I bet that was a fantastic experience?!
      All the best mate,
      Sam :)

    according to my trainspotting i saw a wren a4 golden eagle i think, a triang minty 3f, an, your Bachmann j39, at 11:25 a j50 tank(i think), a b12 in br experimental blue and th4 odd one out was the jinty because its an lms loco amongst all the lner locos.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha great job trainspotting - I just love that Wrenn A4! And yes, correct - the Jinty was the odd one out! :D

    I just remembered flying Scotsman while on tour she came to america and my grandad has a picture with it and it look a little different because it had a red cow catcher on her. She looked great maybe union Pacific (and big railway here in the US) maybe the should send the restored big boy engine to the UK.

    • @SamsTrains

    Great review as always.....I must have had one of the very first LNER Apple Green versions. Ordered from the local toy shop as soon as I saw it in the catalogue (I believe it featured on the front page...prob in a painting by T. Cuneo...along with his trademark mouse!) I drove the poor shop keeper nuts for the next couple of months by going in every day and asking if it had arrived!!!

  • @janiceandcliff
    @janiceandcliff 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done Sam, nice to see 3 Scotsmans... : ) The BR version seems to pull more, I've often thought that the nickel tired locos have less grip. I wonder if a previous owner has added a little more weight to the chassis ?
    The tender is the version without the corridor, good to see Tri-ang Hornby modelled both at the time. : )
    Regards, Cliff.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cliff, thanks a lot mate - glad you enjoyed it! Yes there was a large brass weight added towards the front of the body - you can actually see it through the gaps! It means that she's closer to the weight of Wrenn loco, and pulls accordingly! Yeah it was nice that they modeled both - they could have easily recycled the very same moulding!
      All the best,
      Sam :)

  • @NorthernSoulExpress

    Sure was a great review Sam, it is sad that Scotsman is the last of its kind left, and if it weren't for the efforts of Alan pegler then not even she would have survived. But still a superb model and my favourite livery is the LNER apple green. Keep the faith - Callum

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Callum - thanks very much, yeah it really is a shame - but thank goodness we do have the one! Yeah the LNER green is definitely the more traditional livery!
      All the best,
      Sam :)

      Flying Scotsman had its corridor tender swapped with a streamlined non corridor tender in 1938, which it kept I believe until 1963, when Pegler bought an A4 corridor tender, which it has to this day.

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi thanks for the comment! She appeared with either at different times - two tenders were necessary when she did the super long journeys!

    • @mbcmechachu
      @mbcmechachu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam'sTrains
      I can understand that. In Thomas & Friends they did mention to why Flying Scotsman had two tenders in the show. Granted the episode they mentioned it they never acknowledged the brotherly bond between him & Gordon, another A1 (I think what you said it was) but they did come the recent movie.
      Many thanks for the information,
      Mech.

    Scottie looks better in LNER Apple Green with the number 4472. Three Scotties together? Two's company, three's a crowd. You've got one too many Scotties here, Sam. Stick to the Hornby Scottie because I've got that model myself, and she runs perfectly; I've not encountered any troubles with her yet. Get rid of those other three; you don't need four Scotties now, do you? One is enough for both of us, I say. By the way, the odd one out is way too easy: BR Black Jimmy the Jinty is the oddity.

    • @SamsTrains

    she also suffered an almost disastrous fate in 1926 when a group of striking miners lifted a rail to stop a train that they thought was pulling coal what they didn't know, it was a passenger train hauled flying scotsman and then it derailed that almost destroyed her completely

    Hi Sam
    Do you think a Triang flying Scotsman body would fit on a modern Hornby flying Scotsman chassis? I have been given 2 LNER 4472 Scotsman’s and I was thinking about putting a Triang BR 60103 Body on it to make it a big different

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it might do actually, but obviously you'd need to find a way of fixing it on. Also depends on whether they're the same length... tri-ang locos had a habit of being a bit short!
