Art class are neveeeer like that from my experience 😭 I’ve been to a great art school for 3 years and most of the time teachers are quite humiliating with the students. Never pressure free even though I wished it was.
I’ve had a whole slew of art teachers and granted I am an art major in university atm. In highschool and even now they’ve gotta be you know firm about stuff and realistic with certain things, but I’ve never had a teacher, thankfully, who just straight up belittled me about what I did. Idk why people consider Stardew Valley relaxing. The time limit stressed me out beyond belief. I'd spend over an hour planning out my garden placement so I'd be able to get it all done in one day. The day should atleast be double as long. It passes WAY too fast.

One of my favourite classes was my last in studio traditional art class in uni. It was... strangely beginner-ee, as in it felt like the first year art half of the course I did, but was a lot more... healing. The guy was very casual and relaxed like this, as long as you were trying you weren't "wrong", and we got to work with a lot more chalks, conte, and similar.. tactile or intimate materials. It was doubly chill because the course structure was very scuffed and often just life drawing, object drawing, or tone studies, in various angles and 3D spaces, and towards the end we could just use whichever medium we wanted rather than being forced to do paints, inks, etc. Definitely a "free" elective but... really relaxing, intimate, and soul soothing.

In all fairness, everyone gets anxious when there'a an art critique and you're definitely not alone. Introversion is about needing to be by yourself to restore your energy, it's not actually a personality trait

My art teacher graded our work on how much time we spent on it. I had a HORRIBLE sense of time. I thought we'd spent only 3 days on a project when it'd actually been a week. She gave me a D because I didn't work on it long enough. I actually had worked on it the whole week, and I tried to explain to her I had forgotten how long we spent on it. She didn't change my grade, but she DID put my project up for display in the window... How was it good enough to be flaunted but then you give me a D???

This was literally so fantastic. I recently changed my major to art history with a studio art minor and a second major in education so that I can teach art and this is so cute!! I have an idea: A continuation of this art class, but we spend a period with every student. Not all the periods, but not the same one either. Emily on a Tuesday, Becky for the negative space assignment, et cetera. And we'd be the art they make (or we just get an outside perspective of their art, although I don't know how easy it would be for you to accurately replicate the styles of each student). Or you could collab. It's all up to you, but getting acquainted with each student's style sounds very fun....
So I actually have PTSD from being in classes so I will never ever go back to regular classes, but this made me a little uneasy at first. Then after a minute or two I calmed down a bit so thank you for making me feel safe in a sort of class situation❤️ it means the world to me

I did this first day of class. Took me a good twenty minutes to notice, because it was the same course, they were just third years and I was first, so I just thought I was a bit dumb till the lecturer started talking about what they'd done last year.
This happened to me once. I am a pediatrics major and one time i accidentally listened to a lecture with the general medicine students. We have the same lecturer, it's just that i had to be in a different hospital for a different lesson at the time 😅

One of my favourite classes was my last in studio traditional art class in uni. It was... strangely beginner-ee, as in it felt like the first year art half of the course I did, but was a lot more... healing. The guy was very casual and relaxed like this, as long as you were trying you weren't "wrong", and we got to work with a lot more chalks, conte, and similar.. tactile or intimate materials. It was doubly chill because the course structure was very scuffed and often just life drawing, object drawing, or tone studies, in various angles and 3D spaces, and towards the end we could just use whichever medium we wanted rather than being forced to do paints, inks, etc.
Definitely a "free" elective but... really relaxing, intimate, and soul soothing.

Dude my first year art teacher was a dream but when it came to projects he was so picky , I showed him something I drew for my project that I had planned on turning into a sculpture and he just shat all over it and called my style too cartoony and said I was copying anime so of course I was like wth because my style is the furthest from anime it could possibly have been at the time it like comparing a bear to a worm you know ? Anyways I decided I didn’t like him at that moment so I turned in a shitty half finished project instead because he hated me from then on
My art teacher graded our work on how much time we spent on it. I had a HORRIBLE sense of time. I thought we'd spent only 3 days on a project when it'd actually been a week. She gave me a D because I didn't work on it long enough. I actually had worked on it the whole week, and I tried to explain to her I had forgotten how long we spent on it. She didn't change my grade, but she DID put my project up for display in the window... How was it good enough to be flaunted but then you give me a D???

I have an idea: A continuation of this art class, but we spend a period with every student. Not all the periods, but not the same one either. Emily on a Tuesday, Becky for the negative space assignment, et cetera. And we'd be the art they make (or we just get an outside perspective of their art, although I don't know how easy it would be for you to accurately replicate the styles of each student). Or you could collab. It's all up to you, but getting acquainted with each student's style sounds very fun....
