I don't know why people don't just take their socks and shoes off to go through the water! That's what I did for my first half marathon and I did not regret it!! 😄

(Advance apology for long & complicated comment!)
What advice do you have to "not overdo it" while "pushing through pain"?
I keep hearing both these adages.
Obviously (to me now), if I'm limping I shouldn't be running.
Literally watching this series on my couch with heatpacks on my knees from overstrain during a 30 mile week 2 weeks back which was too much too soon :)
I never exceeded level 4 / 10 pain but it was enough to keep me in recovery for the last week with no tangible improvement yet.
My WHY is extremely compelling. 50K is my target, I would like to hit this by mid Feb when I turn 49 (50x49).

Nice! Can you explain a little interval running you do?

Sure Janet! I do a walk run interval....normally a 3 minute run/30 second walk. You can vary that however you are comfortable. I've seen people go for a 9 minute run/1 minute walk to a 1 minute run/30 second walk. But the funny thing was that when I started the interval running years ago, my running speed naturally increased. And overall I found I could maintain a negative split on race day better than when I just ran the whole way. It's also been good for me with preventing injuries as well. My goal for running is to run for many many years as opposed to really trying to increase my speed (just for some perspective). I know everyone has different things they are focused on and goals they want to target! Does this help?

Hi! Just discovered your channel. Very nice for us novices! I do understand what you mean. I am 65 and really want to do an ultra! Bucket list.

@@janetohlsen6712 so glad you enjoy it! I'm 58 now myself and love running and want to do it for as long as I'm able - which is why I love the intervals! And you can definitely do an ultra! It's not that much further than a marathon! And just like most running events, the I've found the other runners and the SAG teams at the ultras super supportive!

Signed up for my first trail 50km in March. Only just transitioning to running trails so feel like I have a lot of work to do to be ready. Love the skirt where is it from?

Thanks Millie for watching! And thanks for the comment on the skirt! I sew them myself as a hobby...add BIG pockets in the shorts underneath so I can carry food, my phone, keys! Enjoy those trails..it's such a nice change up from running on roads. And good luck on your 50K!!! You got this!!!💪🥳

Have you run a 50K? Any crazy stories you'd like to share? Anyone run the Seashore 50K? I really love this 50k, but it is the only one I've run so far....guess I need to branch out! Any suggestions on other great 50k runs for beginners?
