    In your Tutorial, I found all the shortcuts and more I learned over my academic years and eventually forgot and couldn't find them as they were deep set in long tutorial videos. Your video is lucid, short and on point. I hope you keep creating such videos and keep helping the learners and beginners. All the best for your career. Bless you, mate.

    The shadows are already accurately represented from V-Ray. Just drag the original image to the top of the layer stack and change the blend mode to multiply. Saves all the time adjusting shadows manually.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tips! It sure does saves a lot of time if the render is set to "override material" as this one. But as I only used this as an example for any type of render. For instance, imagine changing an existing rendered brick wall to a concrete wall. Setting the the original image to multiply would transfer not only the shadows but all the brick details to the new concrete texture. Hope that helps!
      Thanks a lot for the extra info!

    • @jame5j
      @jame5j 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very true. Didn't think of that scenario. I usually use clay renders myself for shadows guess that's why. Big thumbs up on that channel BTW, just found it today, really enjoying the videos. Especially the axo study model vid... reminded me of my final project in Undergrad. Cheers.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think it depends on how people deal with this process render + post production, but you shared some good extra information for anyone learning this specific step! Thanks a lot for the compliment! Glad I could reach not only the begginers, but those more advanced in Architecture Representation

    • @jurysdykcja
      @jurysdykcja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But who works only with beauty pass only? The trick for architects, is to learn how to compose their render elements and channels to make something, that allows easy changes in materials etc. That's the game changer.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      jurysdykcja You're right! That's the real game changer. This video is only supposed to show some basic and unique techniques for someone getting into this world. Thanks for the tip!

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! In my workprocess I always use it.
      But that's a topic somewhat related to the Render Engine, and it's not a must to render your 3D to postproduct in Photoshop. Thanks man!

    For the first tip, using clipping mask is so much faster. Just define the area you want for the texture (can be just a white rectangle) and in a new layer add the pattern. Then clip mask the pattern layer to the area.

    @annakdave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thank you so much for the video, it was very helpful! keep them coming! my question is - what would you recommend to use as the base for these photoshop manipulations? For example, if i'm working on archicad, should I export a 2D graphic of an elevation and then photoshop it or should I render it and them photoshop it? I'm just looking for the cleanest way to work. Is the model in this video from sketchup? Thank you so much!

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feed back! Well it really depends on what type of illustration you're trying to achieve. But as a rule of thumb, every 2d drawing (plan, section, elevation and so on) I rather export it as a PDF. I only render if it is really necessary. I don't like to waste my time setting up rendering settings when not needed.
      But talking render wise, if I'm going for a more realistic look, I'll render for sure!
      I use Archicad as well, but for quick models, I use Sketchup since it allows a more fast workflow for basic stuff.
      Also, there are some time that Adobe Illustrator will do the job faster and better than Photoshop! Keep that in mind to use the best tool for each moment.
      Hope I didn't confuse you with this hahaha. Cheers!

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! You can use *Alt* while moving to fast copy, if you have a selection made it will copy within the same layer, otherwise it will create a new one.
      Also, for the pink guide lines, it's the version of Photoshop, it's the CC.

      That's indeed a smarter way to do it. And to be honest that's what I actually do.
      But this is one step further than plain masks. A bit more advanced for those just stepping into the world of masks 😅
      Again, nicely pointed out! Thanks!

      Hi Carolina! Thanks a lot for the feedback!
      This project is from a Brazilian Architect that I admire a lot, Marcio Kogan. I traced over in photoshop just to show the tips.
      But you can achieve a similiar effect modelling in Sketchup for example and exporting a jpg/png using a Black and White Style.
      I hope this helps you out. Cheers!
