Did you ever imagine a crossover between "Manhunt" and "Madoka Magica" ? Just imagine for a moment. A girl who is told by Kyubey that the evil behind the city is all being caused by the witches. But as the story progresses, and the more time the girl spends with the protagonist, seeing how the city's evil was also caused by humans alone, there's a point in which she just gives up, and after Lionel's demise, she becomes a witch continuing on his job, and her executioner is none other than Kyoko, the girl who represents humanity's greed.
this trailer is the most accurate ive seen so far. not only that, it really look like trailer that will speak to the western audience. but its too spoilerish, so its not good for ppl who care about spoilers.

Unlike AoT it is a complete story in 12 episodes (+ optional film: Rebellion) This is very different to AoT being the Magical Girl genre but is similarly mature in it's themes and attitude to it's audience being 'intelligent'. Yes, please watch this. It's my favourite anime of all time, (though I don't want to hype it up too much). You have many different ways to watch this: 1) Watch original broadcast and Rebellion. 2) Watch all three movies (Beginnings, Eternal and Rebellion). 3) Eight episodes and then Eternal and Rebellion. I suggest option 3, since in Beginnings (Movie version of Ep 1 to 8), they omit many scenes from the series. However Eternal omits no scenes at all and has a lot better graphics. (Rebellion is the movie continuation of the series while Beginnings and Eternal are recaps). Or, you could watch a fancut, with all the good movie graphics put into episodic form. Sooo I showed her THIS one after and she was like "that's NOTHING like the first one!" and was caught so off guard lmao. Hope she likes the show as much as I do. XD
Depends on your definition...it's not dark in the violent, disturbing images, Evangelion kind of way, but VERY dark in terms of themes and morals. It's more philosophical and thought-provoking than gory and twisted. Don't let that put you off though. I for one don't love Madoka because it's dark, I love it because it's one of the more perfectly executed stories I've ever seen, and juggles poignant themes and complex characters without wasting one SECOND of it's run time.
+Emma Quiviger im not sure if u ever watched it but if u hav not....YOU MUST im telling u this is nothing like any other magical girl anime there is and the ending is fucking badass (once u get to episode 3) and the 3rd movie will fuck up ur emotions for the ending was just....lets just say it'll make u wish this was like other magical girl animes in which a happy ending will always exist as long as u hav hope and believe
Their suffering is as intense as young Kaede's and they're complex characters. Witches are Mariko levels of crazy. There's a lot of death but without the graphic blood.

By 'dark', what do you mean? As dark as Elfen Lied or what? Coz I like super dark animes, maybe with a bit of twistedness, and maybe a hot guy :3
This is obviously not as dark as Elfen Lied, but it has a surprising amount of blood and death for a magical girl genre anime.
