I have the iPad Pro and I would definitely recommend still using a laptop. The iPad Pro has a tendency to not auto-save documents on Word and google docs. This happened to me last semester and I lost 7 pages on one of my essays. 10/10 recommend the iPad Pro for everything besides writing big papers. ☺️
If you have office 365, make sure you’re signed in to the same email. Mine automatically saves my documents across platforms. I also get free office with school, try that and see how it works.
The iPad is also not great if you have to use MyLab or MH connect. I only have an iPad right now (was doing all my homework at the library before) and just found out that myLab doesn’t support iPadOS.
When I finally broke down and bought an iPad, within a month I said, “geez, I should’ve done this a year ago”. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made in my life
@@Martamplf I can do basically everything on it. I can do art, school, plan my life, play games on a larger screen. Connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse so it’s a portable laptop in some instances. It has a pencil that makes school and art easier. And since I got the 11’ one, it’s convenient to carry around in my backpack purse if I wanted to do any of those things listed above in a different area. I can also FaceTime people/call people while doing other things on my phone. It’s just very convenient to have the iPad.

Love this, I didn’t think I would like my iPad Pro but now I can’t live without it! Just a few extra points if anyone’s reading the comments and still deciding, you can get Microsoft word, PowerPoint, excel etc as an app and they’re really great to work on and much more portable than my heavy laptop so I always take my iPad to lectures, the library and coffee shops. They’re mostly the same as the full desktop versions but if need to add an automatic contents page or change the page numbering part way through the paper then you’ll need to open it in the desktop version, although its super easy, I wrote my entire dissertation on my iPad. The Apple Pencil is great and you can make loads of notes in word, pdf or other free apps with lots of highlighter colours so you don’t need to buy the notability app to use it, although this has inspired me to try it out! It’s great because I don’t need to haul all of my notes with me everywhere I go in case I need them. You can also buy non apple pencils that work just as well for much cheaper, this is what my housemate uses, although I haven’t tried it. You can also make really cool digital art, there’s loads of free and paid apps that are really fun. If you’re buying one alongside a laptop I’d recommend checking your course to see what software you need because I’ve found most of these aren’t available on Mac. After my MacBook died I found the best balance was my iPad Pro and a windows laptop. It’s not as seamless as all apple products but you can easily open iCloud in browser and work on your documents from there. I study civil engineering and there’s loads of software that I’ve been able to work on from home, rather than be limited to using the few computers available in my course building which has been a lifesaver in the run up to deadlines so definitely worth thinking about! But I want it lol & I think it’ll help with school. I have a 4yr old PC HP laptop but I want something portable. And the procreate ability to draw cool stuff is a plus, u can use it for integrating pics on ur notes making ur notes super pretty & visually helpful so I’m tempted lol
I just got an iPad Air as a graduation gift and have been watching these, but see so many people with the Pro (not that it matters since they all do the same thing), but this made me feel a bit more comfortable 💕I’m a visual learner, but don’t really want to carry 624 notebooks when I start college in the fall, so I’m excited about this!
I'm a nursing major and got the Ipad air at the beginning of nursing school and it CHANGED my life. I seriously don't think i would've been able to keep up with the pace of the lectures handwriting. I opt to download powerpoints to good notes and write straight on the slide. Then later I view my edited powerpoints on my laptop screen (super easy to export/airdrop) and rewrite pretty ipad notes haha. Its made rewriting my notes feel more fun
I also only have the 64 gb and its been more than enough! I just pay that extra 2.99 for icloud storage and save everything to icloud drive but I have a ridiculous amount of photos backed up :)

For sure! Before my ipad I wrote all of my class notes by hand. I'm not the fastest typer and I think taking notes on a laptop in class is distracting. I mostly love working on my laptop for all my other homework and project needs :)
Whats really nice too is you can use your ipad as a second screen for the macbook like a regular sized dual monitor setup and it takes up way less space than a full monitor , really nice to be writing on microsoft word with the macbook while im referencing a pdf or an article that i dragged over to on the iPad , ipads productivity on its own is amazing though love the pencil way better than a lot of other writing options on the market atm
I recently upgraded to a brand new MacBook Air and the iPad Pro 12.9 inch with the apple pencil 2nd gen and the combo has been PERFECT for me as a student and artist. Being able to switch between both for each thing is so useful, I love that they easily work together. The apple pencil I have is the 2nd gen and its so helpful that it charges by simply attaching with a magnet to the side of the iPad. Honestly if you can afford it the set up is perfect.

THIS IS SO HELPFUL!! I just graduated from University this week and am on my way to get my masters in nursing and I definitely think I’m going to get an iPad for taking notes. Because most of my classes are science based, same as you, for PowerPoint notes we often have diagrams that I’d love to be able to take notes and draw all over in the hospital that I used to work at the nurses tend to take notes on iPads or electronics. Now I know what to ask for for graduation!! 💕 thank you for this !
And my laptop is used for assignments such as case studies and clinical assignments so I think the dual purpose of both gadgets is essential, especially since backing up documents onto your laptop is rendered much easier on a laptop than iPad (that I’ve found in my research) ☺️
I recommend getting the older iPad pad pro 2018 11 inch from Apple refurbished for $550 US this is a great deal and the old iPad pro is very similar to the new iPad Pro the only change being the camera and Lidar sensor which many people won’t need. Also I recommend getting at Apple Pencil 2 from amazon wearhouse got mine refurbished for $90. I also don’t recommend using only an iPad try and have a laptop in addition doesn’t need to be a MacBook can be a cheaper windows or chrome book.
i just bought the ipad pro after months of contemplation and i’m so excited! hopefully i use it enough that it doesn’t end up being a waste of money since i already have a macbook pro 😅
@@elyssa8689 I use my iPad air 3 for note-taking and zoom calls. It's worth it 100%, especially since you can use the iPad as a second monitor for the MacBook as well!
When using notability you can create a zoomed in box at the bottom for writing, by clicking the little circle with a plus inside it on the bottom of the screen. That makes it much easier to write on compared to zooming in!
if you click on the magnifying glass on the right bottom corner it’ll zoom in for you when you write and while you’re writing it moves the box so you don’t have to move it or you can just hold down on the spot you want it to zoom in with the pen option on! i love that feature it has helped me take notes faster in class :)
I’m the same way I like to have my pencil in the case so what I have is a pencil grip that only goes on where you place your hand to write and it takes 3 seconds to take off and put on!
That makes me so happy to hear as a future nursing student! I also love that if all your notes are stores on that one device, it makes it so easy to go back and refer to old information you have learned!

For the grip issue, I just pulled the rubber grip off of an old, narrow pen and it fit perfectly. Much easier to take off than a full pencil grip as well
In all the classes I’ve taken since 7th grade, everyone have been taking notes on the computer, myself included. Maybe one or two in a class of 35 takes notes by hand 🤓 weird how different it is from country to country 🇩🇰

I have a Microsoft surface and I took most of my notes during college on that, but I am someone who would then rewrite those notes in a notebook again to help study. I like the combo of having electronic and paper copies!
I've definitely been thinking about getting an iPad later down the road just as an upgrade and so I can use apps like procreate to help with my creative projects so this has definitely inspired me to use it as a note-taking tool! also, thank you for always been so inspiring Kiara, I've been subscribed for about a year and you're videos have helped me get motivated and have really been helping me during this time

On notability if you want to get a better zoom when you’re on the pencil in the bottom right hand corner you can select the magnifying glass to zoom in!! That’s what I do for all my classes!
I used to use solely notability, and after 1 year, it rlly just stopped working, and I consistently had issues with it. That’s when I switched to using both my iPad and laptop for notes- the iPad is good to store pdf/textbooks/ebooks so you can write in it, but honestly, using google drive has been a complete game changer in that I never have to worry about anything getting lost like notability does (when you run out of storage it starts to delete things)
On the bottom right corner of notability there’s a magnifying glass with a plus sign in it, that zooms in on a section for you and moves with you as you write!
Love your videos 💕 I’m in high school and at my school we all have iPads instead of like notebooks and textbooks and notability is like all we use. I didn’t think I would ever get so much use out of an app! We use it to take notes, do our homework, and take tests. I will probably be using the iPad in college too because of how convenient it is! I didn’t even think of using a grip for my pen and I’m probably going to get one now so thank you!! 💜💜
I have also learned a few tips since using notability and there is a magnifying glass on the bottom right corner to write zoomed in and you can split screen two notes at the same time by swiping the left side of your screen in the motion towards your right side and you drag any note you want to split screen it. I started with a 6th gen iPad. It was a good iPad though I ended up trading it and buying an iPad Pro and no regrets ☺️ i still use my computer for hw and papers

The little magnifying glass at the right hand corner on a notability note will blow up the paper even more. I think it’s so much easier to use that rather than zooming in.
What I have currently (grateful for everything): - I have an HP laptop. It has 256 GB and it takes a while to start up but overall, I really like it. - I have an IPad 6th Generation from my father. He doesn't use it a lot and I have a stylus coming in tomorrow from Amazon. It's not the original one but it's identical to it and works for 20 hours straight. - School for me starts in January 3rd 2021 (Second Term). I'll be bringing the IPad. I would just see what you would want? Like do you need a lot of gb are you sure you gonna use it all. If it just note taking , movies tv shows then get the 64gb
I’ve found that making the pen size thicker makes your handwriting a lot better on notability also there’s a setting that zooms in for you so you can still see the whole screen but zoom in to write

from what I've seen over the past few years the core features are the same...I feel like you might as well start getting used to it, or just wait to get one right after the new school year starts if you want the latest and greatest :/
instead of zooming in like that to write, there's a plus button on the bottom right that zooms in for you to write and also moves with you as you write so you don't have to move the screen over manually

I think so if you are used to writing smaller! I mostly see people have full sized ipads at school, but if you turn it horizontally I feel like it could work just the same. I'm not sure if it is compatible with the apple pencil so I would check on that :)
I would say wait and get used to your macbook, then when you want to upgrade you can get an air, but you don't need it right away if that makes sense :)
Hey! You said you like to write you notes zoomed in, and you might already know this, but if you click the magnifying button with a + in it at the bottom right of the page, it’ll zoom in for you and automatically move left to right when you fill it up. And you can change how zoomed in it is, where the zoomed in portion lies on your page, and where the text has to be before it moves the page over for you. Sorry - kinda hard to explain, but hope that helps if you didn’t already know that! Also, just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos, you really inspire me!! 🥰

So helpful!! I was wondering if you found that your content retention was the same writing notes on the iPad versus on paper. Like we’re you able to remember things to the same degree of taking on by hand vs iPad!
So far yes! I have especially noticed that it has helped with my concussion class because I spend more time taking notes for that class than I do for physics...I feel like you can interact a lot more with your notes on an ipad because you can cut them and move them around electronically, or add post it notes and colors which helps me retain the info more :)

i have a macbook pro 2012 and obviously it’s not the fastest ever but it works for writing papers etc. and has been functional for online school. i want to save up for an ipad tho so i can take notes and do my schoolwork there during quarantine, and i’m going into my senior year so college is coming up and i want to do something medical so i feel like an ipad will be so helpful. i cant afford it rn tho and the money i’ve been earning from my job goes towards paying my car insurance and gas.
Have you ever used goodnotes for notetaking? I found that it made my writing way neater, but still it can be a little strange to write on a non-paper like screen.

i just bought the ipad pro after months of contemplation and i’m so excited! hopefully i use it enough that it doesn’t end up being a waste of money since i already have a macbook pro 😅

@@elyssa8689 I use my iPad air 3 for note-taking and zoom calls. It's worth it 100%, especially since you can use the iPad as a second monitor for the MacBook as well!

When using notability you can create a zoomed in box at the bottom for writing, by clicking the little circle with a plus inside it on the bottom of the screen. That makes it much easier to write on compared to zooming in!

if you click on the magnifying glass on the right bottom corner it’ll zoom in for you when you write and while you’re writing it moves the box so you don’t have to move it or you can just hold down on the spot you want it to zoom in with the pen option on! i love that feature it has helped me take notes faster in class :)

I’m the same way I like to have my pencil in the case so what I have is a pencil grip that only goes on where you place your hand to write and it takes 3 seconds to take off and put on!

For the grip issue, I just pulled the rubber grip off of an old, narrow pen and it fit perfectly. Much easier to take off than a full pencil grip as well

In all the classes I’ve taken since 7th grade, everyone have been taking notes on the computer, myself included. Maybe one or two in a class of 35 takes notes by hand 🤓 weird how different it is from country to country 🇩🇰

I have a Microsoft surface and I took most of my notes during college on that, but I am someone who would then rewrite those notes in a notebook again to help study. I like the combo of having electronic and paper copies!

On notability if you want to get a better zoom when you’re on the pencil in the bottom right hand corner you can select the magnifying glass to zoom in!! That’s what I do for all my classes!

I used to use solely notability, and after 1 year, it rlly just stopped working, and I consistently had issues with it. That’s when I switched to using both my iPad and laptop for notes- the iPad is good to store pdf/textbooks/ebooks so you can write in it, but honestly, using google drive has been a complete game changer in that I never have to worry about anything getting lost like notability does (when you run out of storage it starts to delete things)

Love your videos 💕 I’m in high school and at my school we all have iPads instead of like notebooks and textbooks and notability is like all we use. I didn’t think I would ever get so much use out of an app! We use it to take notes, do our homework, and take tests. I will probably be using the iPad in college too because of how convenient it is! I didn’t even think of using a grip for my pen and I’m probably going to get one now so thank you!! 💜💜
I have also learned a few tips since using notability and there is a magnifying glass on the bottom right corner to write zoomed in and you can split screen two notes at the same time by swiping the left side of your screen in the motion towards your right side and you drag any note you want to split screen it. Hope they helped/ made sense :)

I started with a 6th gen iPad. It was a good iPad though I ended up trading it and buying an iPad Pro and no regrets ☺️ i still use my computer for hw and papers

The little magnifying glass at the right hand corner on a notability note will blow up the paper even more. I think it’s so much easier to use that rather than zooming in.

What I have currently (grateful for everything):
- I have an HP laptop. It has 256 GB and it takes a while to start up but overall, I really like it.
- I have an IPad 6th Generation from my father. He doesn't use it a lot and I have a stylus coming in tomorrow from Amazon. It's not the original one but it's identical to it and works for 20 hours straight.
- School for me starts in January 3rd 2021 (Second Term). I'll be bringing the IPad.

I would just see what you would want? Like do you need a lot of gb are you sure you gonna use it all. If it just note taking , movies tv shows then get the 64gb
I’ve found that making the pen size thicker makes your handwriting a lot better on notability also there’s a setting that zooms in for you so you can still see the whole screen but zoom in to write

from what I've seen over the past few years the core features are the same...I feel like you might as well start getting used to it, or just wait to get one right after the new school year starts if you want the latest and greatest :/
instead of zooming in like that to write, there's a plus button on the bottom right that zooms in for you to write and also moves with you as you write so you don't have to move the screen over manually

I think so if you are used to writing smaller! I mostly see people have full sized ipads at school, but if you turn it horizontally I feel like it could work just the same. I'm not sure if it is compatible with the apple pencil so I would check on that :)

I would say wait and get used to your macbook, then when you want to upgrade you can get an air, but you don't need it right away if that makes sense :)
Hey! You said you like to write you notes zoomed in, and you might already know this, but if you click the magnifying button with a + in it at the bottom right of the page, it’ll zoom in for you and automatically move left to right when you fill it up. And you can change how zoomed in it is, where the zoomed in portion lies on your page, and where the text has to be before it moves the page over for you. Sorry - kinda hard to explain, but hope that helps if you didn’t already know that! Also, just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos, you really inspire me!! 🥰

So helpful!! I was wondering if you found that your content retention was the same writing notes on the iPad versus on paper. Like we’re you able to remember things to the same degree of taking on by hand vs iPad!
So far yes! I have especially noticed that it has helped with my concussion class because I spend more time taking notes for that class than I do for physics...I feel like you can interact a lot more with your notes on an ipad because you can cut them and move them around electronically, or add post it notes and colors which helps me retain the info more :)

i have a macbook pro 2012 and obviously it’s not the fastest ever but it works for writing papers etc. and has been functional for online school. i want to save up for an ipad tho so i can take notes and do my schoolwork there during quarantine, and i’m going into my senior year so college is coming up and i want to do something medical so i feel like an ipad will be so helpful. i cant afford it rn tho and the money i’ve been earning from my job goes towards paying my car insurance and gas.

Have you ever used goodnotes for notetaking? I found that it made my writing way neater, but still it can be a little strange to write on a non-paper like screen.
I'm considering getting the iPad. It's less expensive than the MacBook and would have easier access to my notes and you have the option to use your pen and a Bluetooth keyboard. But I don't know if I should get, air or pro :(
