由從事教育工作到現在做物業管理
因為薪酬差異和找工作不順利的挫敗感
少不免一直猶豫是否該回去更熟悉的工作崗位
而且由香港移居加拿大
在新國度重新開始更覺困難重重
因此就跟大家探討到底過了30歲還應否轉換跑道？

黎到先慢慢去探索嘅年輕人可以選擇自己嘅路，因為加拿大晤似香港，呢度職業冇分貴賤，晤睇性別，晤理年齡！
只要願意工作，一定有機會！
初頭識應期要多少少時間去思考，但都未常晤係壞事，因為有返工就已經計緊日數，夠一年就已經係PR，生活嘅目標可能晤一樣，可以作出嘅改變都可以大啲！

Annette, I admire your courage and I have watched some of your earlier youtube clips... you went through your hospitality course and working for Mcdonald's, etc. At the time, I did mention there were a lot of job opportunities in Toronto. I have worked in IT for 30 years in the financial industry here in Toronto. You are already EXTREMELY well equipped with one of the most important skills -- your English language skill. That would open many doors for you. As I have lived/worked so many years, I would again put in my two cents worth for your considerations. I think working in property management has its limitations in terms of future income levels unless you decided one day you'd start your own business. I would suggest that maybe try to work for a financial company like a bank, insurance company or a mutual fund company. That would give you a better chance to climb up the corporate ladder and make a better living. I would suggest you try to apply for something like a Marketing Assistant type of positions. You only need general administrative skills to dothis kind of jobs (like what you are currently doing as a property management job). They may specify that you need to have Marketing degree/diploma, etc in the job description. Don't worry about that (and there is no need to sign up with George Brown/Centennial, etc for that) and go ahead and apply for the job. Right now, there is a serious shortage of people filling out the various positions. If you tried enough times, I am confident that you will crack open that door. Once you are able to make it there, stay there for a few years, you could potentially move into senior positions with much better pay. Good luck! 加油,

As you said in your other video, "you are not alone". All immigrants have gone through similar up and down when we start a new life in foreign country. As a immigrant from HKG to Toronto decades ago, I can tell you from my experience that tomorrow will definitely be better. Your pay will go up when you gain more experience and advance on your career path. Looking at the bright side, it gives you an opportunity to review and pursue your career goal. Stay positive. Hope you would enjoy work life balance in Toronto. Work life balance would cost you substantial pay cut in HKG anyway, correct?.🤣

Its a "give and take". People in Hong Kong get high pay as the cost of living is high. Except in extreme cases, working people in Canada get less than those in Hong Kong. We know that and prepare for that. Do not look back as it would make you unhappy. Just look and plan forward. Again, thanks for your update, and I am happy to know you are doing well🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Unfortunately, major cities like Toronto and Vancouver are more or less as expensive as Hong Kong without the high paying jobs that one can get in Hong Kong . So Canada has its own problems to solve.
TRY to take a free career online test hoping to steer into the right career path.
My daughter took one pointing her into medical field. She then got a BS in Human Biology and completed medical school. She is a MD at 25 and now in her 5th year in General Surgery residency.
My son took one pointing him into Engineering field. He then got a BS in Civil Engineering (4 years) in May and employed in June.

In Ontario, the current OAS is approx C$700/mth. OAS stands for old age security. The government guarantee minimum income after you reach 65. So, you don't have to be too worry about it.

Also depends which company you work too. With a good pension plan can guarantee you receive the same salary as you earn when you are retired. My company is having pension guarantee, so I hope I work there till I get retired. Still many years to go!!! Retirement in Canada is really good.
$700 can’t even pay for the grocery Or Rent for a room in Toronto …. Not the best advice …

你在香港有5萬元收入，比較英國和加拿大，肯定沒有咁多，你算選擇正確，英國交税比加拿大多，就算你去到英國，情況一樣，不要拿香港人工比較，不正常
I earned the same salary as you in HK. I emigrated to Uk 1 year ago. Fortunately, iIcan get a same position job in UK but salary is deducted by 30%. I am still not used to the UK life style such as language, food, weather etc. I always in doubt whether I left Hk and went to a strange country for a new life is right decision or not. I miss HK parent and have a feeling of guilty as I cannot take care them always. Thanks for sharing your story! HKER! Add Oil!
Ageism is a self imposed criteria and it is not as common in the West as that in Hong Kong. People do not ask how old you are during interview or considering your resume. I know it's hard to get rid of that mindset since we all have had bad experience in such a different culture as in Hong Kong. To me, there is only 1 way to look, which is foreword. Don't look back and don't compare the past. The Past is history and tomorrow is a mystery. That's why today is known as present. It's God's given gift.

Nowadays, the average 30-something will change jobs 5 to 6 times in their lifetime, I know people change job in their mid or late 50s. Don't let it stop you reach out for your dream! Even though it is not easy, it takes courage to dream the dream.

I know of a teacher who successfully transitioned to become Business Analysis in the IT field. Not sure if Google offers this certificate. Best of luck on your career endeavour!

你可以explore下做instructional designer? 因你以前是老師，instructional design好易pickup. Lots of jobs人工起薪幾好，你英文又好，做住一份full time又可以多接額外contract and part time用嚟儲錢. 80k to 10k 一年。
Additional information, I took the Adult Learning Program at U of T, 5 days courses then you qualify for 1 year job experience. The fastest way to 轉行.
其實你可以由老師轉做instructional designer, 入d corporate公司做train人既人，之後先內部轉工。咁你咪唔使由低做起囉！

Stay positive, changing career may be a good decision in a new environment. Also, you mentioned you try to save some money monthly. You might want to look into a TFSA account. Any interest you earn in this account is tax free in Canada.
I registered one and started investing right before the stock market crashed.

其實你可以考慮補習，我仔學中文，老師也是香港新來的，一個小孩收60蚊45分鐘，每次教兩三個小孩，真係高薪收入

我有個relative (female), 40歲先轉行，免費trainings and 拿 大型車licenses. 做咗10年50歲就去咗退休，而家淨係食食食玩玩玩旅行。現在藍色嗰㗎巴士又要請人, provide free trainings 又幫你考埋牌。relatives最近有冇人有興趣，佢可以介紹。haha

Only first two years may be classified as tough, working on shift at 5am. Once you work 3-5 yrs, you can pick what you want, driving an empty bus, stop at the stops. Not tough at all.
How's the final result of Hospitality qualification in college/ U? Why don't you still work in hospitality industry, instead of working as property administration? Is property administration a career that you will work on, like further studies, or obtain certification etc. ?

Condo Mgmt Industry has been facing lack of new people joining/coming into this field for years. In fact I heard that over hundreds of newly contructed condo(s) coming these few years the demand is getting higher and higher regardless of admin level and licenced mgr level. Each level has their starting salary level, 5 years, 10 years+. Job web site might provide some insight. As far as what is involve(the good, bad and the stress that comes with it) your mgr should be able to tell you. So knowing all that one would need to make a educated guess is that what I wanted as a carrier.

讀書其實係適合個D智識型為主，要考牌嘅工種，例如醫護、會計、law 個D。

@@BecomingAnnette 係! 我見過三個都是我認識的年過40的人轉行的例子, 一個在加拿大多倫多曾在Hong Kong Cable and Wireless 屬下的 Data Centre 任職 Operation manager, 八十年代末移民加拿大時其月薪約八, 九萬港元. 在加拿大職場沉了一段時間後便去讀中醫針灸課程, 成功轉職為中醫已經幾十年. 在澳洲Sydney 一個年過七十的單身女子, 當時決定做律師, 便進入大學開始其夢想, 畢業後進入一間事務所作為練習生, 現在他仍然執業及有自己的事務所. 在墨爾本一個香港電腦工程師來澳後浮沉於職場一段時間, 其後決定讀骨科, 現在已經是骨科治療師超過二十年. 以上都是我親見的例子, 成功與否第一步決定於當事人的決心和生活態度, 喜事只會敲樂觀者之門.

Hk is the real anomaly. Pay in public service is generally quite low around the globe.however, Teachers/ civil servant in hk and Singapore are getting paid so well. So if you are making over 50k HKD per month before that’s just because you are lucky to be a teacher in hk and doesn’t say much about your ability. Anyway, doing what you enjoy at a reasonable salary is more important in my opinion.
You're not wrong and I have gone through the realization you describe. And I'm still trying to make sense of what is happening.

其實你依家人工唔低，係以前‘虛高’, 根本普通老師就只係值咁上下，香港畸形姐
