2017: You rebound with a 13-3 record and your defense harkens back to the PPE days of the 70s. You somehow pull a rabbit out of your butt in the Divisional against New Orleans. Full speed ahead.
2017 NFCCG: You get steamrolled in Philadelphia at the hands of a backup QB. At least there's next year?
2018 Offseason: Kirk Cousins is your new QB. Please win against good teams.
2018 1st Half: You're back in the playoff picture with a 5-3-1 start to the season. Keep it up.
2018 2nd Half: The oasis turns out to be a mirage as you win only 3 more games that season.
2019: You have another decent season at 10-6 and Dalvin Cook has turned into one of the best RBs in the league. You actually won a playoff game in the Superdome as well. Let's go.
2019 Divisional: And you get completely run over in Santa Clara. Oh look, your offensive coordinator left to take the Cleveland job and has had some success there.
2020 Draft: Stefon Diggs is gone, but here's this LSU WR named Justin Jefferson. Let's draft him.
2020: Jefferson turns into the Rookie Of The Year, but you blow way too many important games down the stretch to finish 7-9.
2021 Weeks 1-12: Despite blowing a lot of games this year, you are still in contention for a Wild Card Spot. Fingers crossed.
2021 Week 13: YOU LOST TO THE WINLESS LIONS? There's not enough liquor in the world for the pain.
February 2022: Mike Zimmer is finally axed after a dismal 8-9 season. You decide to chase trends and hire Kevin O’Connell as your new head coach.
November 2022: You’re 8-1 with one of the best offenses and defenses in football, arguably the best WR in the game and are coming off a miracle in Buffalo. Full speed ahead.
January 2023: Boom. You’re Super Bowl contenders with a 13-4 season. And you get your hearts broken by the Giants again. That team hadn’t won a playoff game in over a decade. Back to the bar.

You lose all 3 of your quarterbacks from last season to free agency but you quickly fill the hole by signing Kirk Cousins to an 84 million dollar contract. Its time to shake off that brutal loss to the Eagles last year and finally get back to the Super Bowl for the first time in 42 years.
    2018 Regular Season
You get revenge on those damn Eagles early in the season but your team is mediocre at 8-6-1. But you still have a chance at the playoffs. All you have to do is beat the surprising Bears at home and you will be fine.
    Week 17
Nope. You completely shit the bed losing to the Bears 24-10 and to add insult to injury, those damn Eagles get the last laugh and take the 6 seed. No Playoffs for you. Just keep the shots coming until I pass out.

This video is still relevant to this day. Also, R.I.P., Bud Grant.
2017: Holy crap. You go 13-3 and easily qualify for the playoffs. Case Keenum, a journeyman quarterback, had the season of his life. You also have one of the NFL's best defenses. You are the NFC's team to beat. You're not going to mess this up. It's your year.
2017 NFC Divisional: After a first-round bye, you face a familiar adversary in the New Orleans Saints. You start fast and lead 17-0 at halftime, but your offense slows, and your lauded defense forgets how to play and chokes the game away. Wil Lutz scores the game-winning field goal with less than a minute remaining to put New Orleans up 24-23. Looks like this season's done...
The final play of the 2017 NFC Divisional: BUT WAIT! STEFON DIGGS PULLS OFF A MINNEAPOLIS MIRACLE! WHAT KIND OF SORCERY IS THIS?! With that win, you have a real chance at the Super Bowl, which is in your new home stadium this year.
2017 NFC Championship: All I can say is... "Only a brick wall can stop you. Its name is the Eagles." And two weeks later, THEY won the Super Bowl in that stadium that I mentioned earlier.
2018 offseason: You let Case Keenum go, but you receive a good improvement at quarterback in Kirk Cousins. Losing Jerick McKinnon hurts, but you'll make the playoffs again. You can do so.
2018 Week 5: You exact your vengeance on the reigning champion Eagles by shutting down their offense for most of the game.
2018 Week 17: You're 8-6-1, but a win over the Bears, of all teams, would put you back in the playoffs. Then you succumb to them. And the Eagles also win their game, thereby eliminating you from the playoffs. Where's the liquor when I need it?
2019: You bounce back and make the playoffs with a solid 10-6 record. In the Wild Card Round, your opponent is... the New Orleans Saints. The same team you defeated back in 2017 in the NFC Divisional, but they countered in Week 8 back in 2018. It's time for you to settle the score.
2019 Wild Card: Wow, you're holding strong against one of the league's most lethal offensive attacks. You have a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. And now comes the annual letdown.
Overtime, 2019 Wild Card: Never mind! You win the coin toss and drive down the field for the game-winning touchdown, defeating the godless Saints. Quite amazing. Maybe THIS could be the season.
2019 NFC Divisional: Until you get stopped by the 49ers. Next year, there will always be.
2020 offseason: Stefon Diggs gets traded to the Buffalo Bills.
2020 NFL Draft: Here's Justin Jefferson from LSU as the new WR. Don't waste his talent.
2020: You start 1-5 and it's all downhill from there. Your defense falls off a cliff due to many injuries.
2021: Barr and Kendricks are back, so MAYBE you have a chance to go far... I take that back. You suffer painful loss after painful loss and miss the playoffs at 8-9. These painful losses include missing yet another chip-shot field goal to lose to the Cardinals in Week 2, losing to a Cowboys team without Dak Prescott in Week 8, AND losing to the Lions who haven't won a game since 2020 in Week 13. WHAT. IS. WRONG.
2022 offseason: You finally give Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman the axe after years of woeful underachieving. You hire an inexperienced head coach in Kevin O'Connell, fresh off a Super Bowl victory with the Los Angeles Rams. This may not end well...
2022: Oh, never mind... you're 13-4, and you managed to complete the biggest comeback in NFL history against Matt Ryan and the Colts. Down 33-0, you rally back and tie the game at 36 to send the game into overtime, where Greg Joseph leads you to victory 39-36 to clinch the NFC North, and make it to the playoffs again. THIS HAS TO BE THE SEASON.
2023 NFC Wild Card Round: Daniel Jones says NO. You get murdered by a Giants team with a lot of injuries. TO THE LIQUOR VAULT!

Nearly 8 years have marched on since the creation of this video. Let us look back on what the Vikings have accomplished since then:
2017: AP Retires from the Vikings, but you make it to the playoffs at 13-3 and Case Keenum so far is a beast! It will not save you from being t-bagged 38-7 by the Eagles in the NFC Championship.
2018: This Kirk Cousins seems to be a nice strapping option. You unfortunately miss the playoffs at 8-7-1.
2019: Cousins is a pretty decent QB, and you make a 10-6 record! Only to be outmatched by the 49ers in the divisional round. As consolation, your team has won their 500th game as a franchise after beating the Raiders earlier in the season. Maybe you can look up to something good.
2020: I spoke prematurely as Cousins regresses and becomes team cancer. The playoff gates get slammed shut in front of your 7-9 season.
2021: Make that two years in a row at 8-9! That's probably karma for Cousins yelling about how great he is after nearly losing to a Lions team of shambling filth.
2022: You make the playoffs at 13-4, but something is definitely off about how you made more than ten of them tighter than one score games. The Giants are schmucks and you still got close call -garbage time- Kirk to bail you out.
2022 NFC Wild Card 4th quarter: It comes down to this. Make this first down and- why are you throwing a checkdown Kirk *NO KIRK STOP! YOU'RE LITERALLY THROWING THE GAME!* *_The checkdown is complete_* _I tried to warn him, and now it's going to hang over his head until he owes up to his idiocy!_
2023: Kirk Cancer blew out his Achilles Tendon and fresh air graces Minnesota at last! Joshua Dobbs gets to replace him too. Things are still shaky, but if you can beat the Lions you might just sneak into the playoffs!
2023 Season game 17: You are beaten out by a well-oiled Lions machine and are eliminated from the playoffs. It's gotta be the curse of Kirk yelling about beating Detroit two years ago like it was the fate of the universe, wasn't it.
2024 offseason: You need a sleeper card of a Quarterback to push you back to relevance! And his name is... Sam Darnold?!
2024 Season: Darnold is actually doing good? And you go 15-2 too?! I was saving tickets for the Love Boat! Let's let this one play out then.
2024 wild card: McDarnold's folds to the Rams. What else would we expect? I can at least savor some Fireball.

2018 season: You get revenge on the eagles early in the season but you sit at 8-6-1 heading into week 17, as Long as you beat the suprisingly good bears you'll be in the playoffs.your offensive line is straight trash and you miss the playoffs with an 8-7-1 record as you couldn't even beat Mitch fucking Trubusky as the same eagles that crushed you got the #6 seed thanks to your loss.
2019: you have a bounce back season at 10-6 , but you play the 13-3 saints in the wild card round
2019 wild card: oh you beat the saints that you miracled in Minneapolis and they have the same record as the #1 and # 2 seed so if you can beat them you can probably make it to the superbowl

    2024 Season
Go 14-2 behind the resurgence of Sam Darnold. Any other year, the division and the best record would be yours. There's just one snag. One of your division rivals kept pace with you all season. No, it's not Green Bay for once. The Detroit Lions finally climbed out of the basement and are now legit contenders (or not). You got a week 18 match-up with them for the division and the best record. You got this, right Vikings?
    Week 18
You not only lose to the Lions. You get completely wrecked, Sam Darnold reverts back to ghost form, and you're off to L.A. to play the Rams as a 14-3 Wildcard Team.
Make that Glendale Arizona to play the Rams as a 14-3 Wildcard Team.
    2025 Wildcard
Turn into a paper Viking against the Rams. Matthew Stafford burns your defense, and the Rams defense feasts on Sam Darnold. Another notch to your legacy of failure added. Great job Vikings now your whole fan base is seeing ghosts. Oh, and Vikings gonna Viking.

    2020 Update:
    *2017*
You guys completely bounce back and go 13-3 getting the #2 seed. Your dominant defense marks the return of the Purple People Eaters and your Offense has one of the best receiver duos, a strong run game and Quarterback Case Keenum finally having a breakout year.
    *2017 Divisional Game*
You are up 17-0 at halftime, you have a chance to close it out... and you let the Saints come back. But it's okay! You wipe it off and get a good drive for a field goal with well under 2 minutes left to take a 23-21 lead. Doesn't matter though because you let the Saints drive downfield and get a field goal with 25 seconds left, get my beer!
    *2017 Divisional Game Final Play*
Wait a minute... what just happened? Did you guys actually create a miracle? You got a touchdown at the last play of the game to finally go back to the NFC Championship. On top of that, you're playing a team down to their backup quarterback. You have a pretty solid chance to go to the Super Bowl which is in your home stadium.
    *2017 NFC Championship*
Turns out you had nothing left in the tank and you get completely run over by an Eagles team led by Nick Foles.
    *2018 Offseason*
It turns out this Case Keenum guy just isn't good enough. We need an upgrade! How about Kirk Cousins. He's coming off a great season with the Redskins, he's worth 84 Million for 4 years. He's the last piece you need to win the Super Bowl!
    *2018 Week 17*
Kirk Cousins completely underperforms, star running back Dalvin Cook is injured, your Offensive Line sucks and you guys are 8-6-1. It's okay though! You're home for week 17 and the Bears will probably rest their starters considering the Rams are almost definitely going to beat the 49ers to lock up the 2 seed. It turns out the Bears don't even pay attention to that game and play all out, completely malling you. You fall to 8-7-1 and with the Eagles destroying the Redskins, they make the playoffs instead. How is that 84 Million you gave to Kirk Cousins looking now. Good luck with him for 3 more years. I'm gonna need a boatload of beer throughout that amount of time. Bartender!
    *2019 Offseason*
You have invested your draft into improving your Offensive Line, led by drafting Garret Bradbury in the first round. However you do absolutely nothing about the Quarterback situation and completely trust Kirk Cousins.
    *2019*
You have a bounce back season and go 10-6 getting the 6 seed. Here you are again playing the Saints as full blown underdogs likely to get destroyed.
    *2019 Wild Card Game*
Kirk Cousins and company play fantastic and pull off an upset winning in Overtime! Keep in mind the Saints had the same record as the 1 and 2 seed in the NFC, so if you can beat them you can definitely go to the Super Bowl.
    *2019 Divisional Game*
You really know how to generate false hope and then bring back memories to the old days as you guys get curb-stomped by the 49ers in a playoff game. You did absolutely nothing with Dalvin Cook while they ran all over you with some guy called Raheem Mostert. You didn't even have to defend the pass because of how dominant Mostert was. Because of how poor Cook was, you have no choice but to pass, go and throw the ball right at Richard Sherman. Vikings gonna Viking.

      You should add this:
      *Super Bowl 52*
Those Eagles that curbstomped you then proceed to take down the Evil Empire known as the Patriots and end their legacy of failure by winning their first Super Bowl...in your home stadium.
And one of the players that made a key play by recovering Brady's fumble late in the game? Derek Barnett, a rookie the Eagles drafted in the first round...with the pick you traded them to get Sam Bradford.
That trade really worked out well for you, huh?

2024 offseason: This is a catastrophe
    Big Kirko is gone
Khyree Jackson died before walking on the gridiron
and that young quarterback you drafted in the first round tore his meniscus and now have to depend on... Sam Darnold... Vikings you have ghosts in your sights. At least Jefferson didn't hold out
Season: the ghosts are apparently what remain of your opponents after killing them, Darnold has turned into a sudden dynamo, Jefferson has played up to standard, Aaron Jones is steamrolling defensive lines, and the defense uses blitzing as a first language. An uncalled facemask and last second field goal are the only reasons you dont have a perfect record, and the top seed is still in play! You just have to beat a Lions team with a papershredded defense in Detroit and the NFC runs through you, now get it done.
Week 18: Jahmyr Gibbs uses the master emerald and goes Super Sonic on you for four quarters, you have all of that firepower on offense against a defense reduced to bone marrow, and you don't even score a touchdown? Now you have to settle as a wild card team at a neutral site against the Rams since LA turned into the seventh circle rather than enjoy these playoffs from the comfort of your own territory. Fix this! FIX THIS NOW!
    Wild Card: "I'm seein' ghosts."

    2024
    OFF-SEASON
So, the Vikings are looking to rebound from a 7-win season. Kinda remarkable they won that many games after Cousins tore his Achilles but at the same time, they dug themselves into a 0-3 hole at the start of the season.
    FREE AGENCY
The Falcons gave Cousins a bag. Hey, I can’t be too mad about that. Get your money and good luck. We’ll miss you Kirko Chainz.
They make older brother in Wisconsin cry by signing Aaron Jones and reuniting Stephon Gilmore and Andrew Van Ginkle with Brian Flores
    DRAFT
They trade up to go get JJ McCarthy. Won a National Championship at Michigan. Perhaps that success can transition to the Vikings
    PRE-SEASON
So I’m not really not expecting the Vikings to do much this season. It’s going to be tough to break through with Green Bay discovering that they have something with Jordan Love and your other big brother in Detroit finally getting his act together. McCarthy is showing some promise in these preseason games. Just stay out of the basement and you’ll be fine-
    JJ McCarthy: SCREAMS
And McCarthy tore his meniscus in his right knee! just great…
so… who will be starting in his place?
    SAM DARNOLD?!
(proceeds to grab a chloroform soaked rag) welp, season is a wash, see you in 2025
    REGULAR SEASON, WEEKS 1-6
the vikings are 5-0? This must be a hallucination? (checks script) oh, they are! And Sam Darnold got revenge on the Aaron Rodgers Jets in London.
WEEKS 7-8, vs DET & at LAR
A close home loss to the Lions and the NFL did us no favors with sending us on the road to play the Rams on a very short week.
You know, if you had us at 5-2 at this part of the season and with Sam Darnold as our QB, I wouldn’t believe it
    WEEK 17
The Vikings rattle off 9 straight wins that include a win over the Falcons that saw Cousins implode by throwing 3 interceptions in the 2nd half, a huge win at Seattle, and yet again surviving a second half surge against the Packers. 14-2. Last time the Vikings won more than 14 games was that other worldly 1998 season that ended with playoff heartbreak
Now you’re heading to Detroit to face the Lions in the season finale for not just the division but the NFC-1. The Lions are annoyed with you on how you just keep winning so they can’t rest their players. Have you seen their injury report?!
Well, since their best players are sidelined, this is your chance. Charge into the Lions’ den and let them know that this will be age of Vikings
    WEEK 18, SNF at DET
The thing about the Lions is that Dan Campbell can literally take anyone - you, an internet shitposter, your grandmother - and turn them into a somewhat capable NFL player
In a nationally televised game, the Vikings are slaughtered for all to see. Sam Darnold is seeing the ghosts of Vikings failures. Dan Campbell passes out kneecaps for his team to feast on. The Lions clinch the division and the NFC-1. As a warning to everyone in the conference who dares to enter Ford Field, heads are placed on pikes.
Your consolation prize is the NFC-5, the top wild card spot. 14 wins and having to play against one of the two division champs that won 10 games. The shield says they’re considering changing the playoff format. And there is some basis for that (see 2020 with NFC East going into the tank)
Regroup against the Rams and maybe you’ll see the Lions again in two weeks
NFC WILD CARD, at LAR (in Phoenix)
The shield correctly moves this game out of Los Angeles because of the devastation from wildfires in Southern California. Several sporting events have been rightly postponed as well
In Phoenix, it’s nearly identical to what happened in Detroit.
    well… at least you scored a TD…
Sam Darnold is sacked 9 times and is seeing ghosts of Vikings past
    you know the saying…
Vikings gonna viking… (opens up the bleach)

    2024 [*ding*]
You've parted ways with Kirk Cousins, just in time for him to regain his past mediocre form with the Falcons. But hey, at least you've got a shiny new rookie QB to play with!
    **CRUNCH!* "UNIT LOST!"*
Well, shit. J.J. McCarthy is going to miss his entire rookie season after getting hurt in the preseason opener. Your new QB is... [horror sting] SAM DARNOLD! He of seeing ghosts among the wreckage of the Jets. And that's not the worst thing you'll experience this offseason. [music fades out] Your new fourth-round pick, Khyree Jackson, is taken from this world way, WAY too soon thanks to a reckless driver. A truly senseless loss of life. Rest in peace, man. You deserved so much better. [Khyree Jackson: August 11, 1999 - July 6, 2024] [screen fades to black]
[music and visuals start back up] This is probably going to be a lost season. But hey, chin up, there's always next-- [Vikings beat Jets in Week 5 to start with a 5-0 record; music switches to "Watchman of the Gods" from Killer Instinct] OH. MY. GOD. With Khyree as your rallying cry, you defy all expectations and lay waste to almost everyone around you. You go 14-3 and finish 2nd in what will be remembered as one of the strongest regular season divisions in NFL history, falling one game short of the 15-2 Lions for the #1 seed in the NFC. Speaking of those Lions, you come out flat against them in Week 18 and get bumped down to the 5th seed. Sucks for you, but hey, you finish with a record that qualifies for a tie for 3rd in the NFL. You also sweep your annoying older brother in the Packers in the process.
Your first opponent? An upstart Rams team that has some momentum, but only made the playoffs via tiebreaker. And they're not even getting to play in front of their home crowd thanks to wildfires in California forcing the NFL to move the game to Arizona for safety precautions. Sure, there's some warning signs that you've been punching way above your weight, and they were one of only two teams you lost against earlier in the season, but you'll be fine. You're not going to blow this... right?
Wild Card Weekend: January 13, 2025 [*ding*]
[music turns back to whimsical comedy music] You turn into a pumpkin at the worst possible time. Darnold reverts back to his Jets vintage and your offensive line allows 9 sacks against him, tying the all-time record for sacks allowed in a playoff game. What was an excellent season goes up in smoke as the Rams blow you out 27-9 and you become the first 14-win team to lose in the Wild Card round. Possibly the most embarrassing performance in a Wild Card Weekend full of them. At least you probably aren't going to pay Darnold next year?

The Vikings are interesting. Taking a look at their record as a whole, they are easily one of the most successful franchises in the NFL. 7th best win-loss percentage, 30 playoff appearances in sixty years, 20 division titles, and 4 Super Bowl appearances. They make the playoffs every other year on average; they win the division every third year. They have more playoff seasons than the Patriots, the Bears, the 49ers, the Broncos, the Chiefs, the Colts, the Raiders, Rams, Redskins, Chargers, and Eagles - despite being younger than all those franchises (some of them by decades).
By no measure can the Vikings be considered a rock-bottom franchise on the level of the Browns or the Jets or the Lions. Those teams are just endless miseries.
That's not the Vikings. No, the Vikings specialty brand of failure is one based on exquisitely-timed pain. They consistently are of the top teams in the league - which better positions them to rip your heart out at the mountaintop. They're the torturer who knows that the greatest cruelty is that of hope. They build you up, they raise your expectations, and then they lose it all in the worst possible and least expected way.
The Vikings are that old thought experiment made real: Is it better to always be a contender but never win, or just to never compete at all? To always fail at the cruelest moment possible or to simply never expect to succeed? Which is worse: misery or hope?

@@tleoipl37After watching the whole thing I would argue that the Vikings biggest overlooked misfortune was the fact that Fran Tarkenton played for the Giants in 1969, 70, and 71.
The defense was very good over 1973-76, when Tark was there, but not as otherworldly as 1969-71.
In particular in 1970 if Tarkenton is there then I think they could’ve won it all especially given that they lost only 17-14 to San Francisco, and the opposing offenses after that would’ve been weaker.

2022: 13-4, what a great season! Kevin O’Connell is a good coach and Kirk Cousins, Justin Jefferson, are having spectacular individual bounce back from a mediocre 2021. This FINALLY has to the year to do it!

You are facing the winless Detroit Lions. This organization has not won a game in about a year. Surely you can find a way to overcome THEM, right?
    4th Quarter, 0:04 remaining
You're in a position where if you stop this play, you win the game. Besides, it's Jared Goff at QB, just do SOMETHING!

When you are a lions fan none of this seems that bad we would die for a 50 year run like that. Literally only a handful of teams have more playoff and conference championship appearances during the last 50 or so years. Had they not made the walker trade they would have likely won multiple super bowls in the 90s.

2024 - Wow. You’re 14-3 and one of the biggest surprises in the league with a revival of Sam Darnold of all players
Week 18- Well that was unfortunate. Now you have to play on the road in the playoffs. Who are you against the Rams? This should be an easy playoff win.
2024 Wild Card Game - You get blown out by the revived Rams 27-9 and you’re one and done in the playoffs once again. Vikings gonna Viking.

The Vikings are officially eliminated from the playoffs. Let's see what happened this time
2020: Your defense lost so many pieces and turned into total refuse. You wasted an all-world year from Dalvin Cook and a strong rookie year from Justin Jefferson. Your kicker missed 4 field goals in a 12 point loss. You traded a 2nd round pick for Yannick Ngokue only to trade him for a 3rd round pick to the Ravens after only 6 games. You started 1-5, cockteased your fans by rallying to get to 6-6 and then lost the next 3 games to get eliminated. Who eliminated you? The Saints, who you were able to lord over eliminating them 2x in the playoffs the last 3 years. At least you beat the Packers in Lambeau though.
Tree may have seen multiple LoF vidoes become irrelevant quickly, but at least this video doesn't look like it will become irrelevant any time soon

  • @thekingbarrelmaker7642

2017: Holy shit. You go 13-3 and cruise into the playoffs. Journeyman QB Case Keenum comes out of nowhere to have the season of his life. You also boast one of the strongest defenses in the NFL. You are the team to beat in the NFC. There's no way you can fuck this up. This is your year.
2017 NFC Divisional: Coming off your first round bye, your opponent is a familiar foe: the New Orleans Saints. You start fast and lead 17-0 at halftime, but the offense stalls and that vaunted defense of yours forgets how to play and proceeds to choke the game away. Wil Lutz kicks the dagger field goal to put New Orleans in front 24-23 with little time remaining. Better luck next year boys.
Final play, 2017 NFC Divisional: But wait! You pull of a miracle victory with no time left! You got your revenge for 2009! Sure, that was mostly because Marcus Williams forgot how to tackle at the worst possible moment, but you are a team of destiny. You're gonna go to the Super Bowl and win it in front of your own fans. All you have to do to make it to the Super Bowl is beat the vulnerable Philadelphia Eagles, who have to win with backup QB Nick Foles. Eh, they have no chance against you. Foles has been shaky and the only reason those Eagles are even here is because the Atlanta Falcons falconed again. You're not the Falcons, though. You'll show Philly who's boss.
2017 NFC Championship: You get completely and utterly embarrassed by the Eagles. Your offense checks out after the first drive and your defense? The one that was great all season long? They make Nick Foles look like Tom fucking Brady. The Eagles then proceed to win what should have been yours in your home stadium two weeks later.
2018 offseason: You move on from Case Keenum, but you get a nice upgrade at QB in Kirk Cousins. Losing Jerick McKinnon sucks, but you'll make it back to the playoffs. You have enough talent to do so.
2018 Week 5: And you return the favor against those goddamn defending champion Eagles by shutting down their offense for most of the game.
2018 Week 17: You are 8-6-1 and you look nowhere near as good as you did last year. You have been rather inconsistent all season long. But it's OK. Just beat the upstart Chicago Bears at home, and you'll be back in the playoffs, where you can finally finish your unfinished business. The Bears then proceed to teabag you all game long. A certain NFC team wins that same day and knocks you out of the playoffs in the process. That team is...you guessed it...THE FUCKING EAGLES! Seriously how do you shit the bed that badly?
2019: You rebound and make it back to the playoffs with a respectable 10-6 record. You have to go to New Orleans to face those hated Saints in the Wild Card Round. You may have knocked them out of Super Bowl contention two seasons ago, but they landed a nice counterpunch on you in Week 8 of the 2018 season. Time for you to win the grudge match.
2019 Wild Card: Wow, you're holding strong against one of the most potent offensive attacks in the league. You lead by 10 points in the 4th quarter as you...piss that away. And here comes the perennial disappointment.
Overtime, 2019 Wild Card: You win the coin toss and drive down the field to score a game-winning touchdown, knocking out those godless Saints. Very impressive. You beat a very strong team in their house. Maybe this is the start of a special playoff run.
2019 NFC Divisional: Wait never mind, you get your fans' hopes up only to let them down again. The San Francisco 49ers put you into a sleeper hold and knock you out.
2020 offseason: Remember that outstanding Stefon Diggs guy who helped lead you to that miracle playoff win against New Orleans? You waste his talent and trade him the the Buffalo Bills.
2020 NFL Draft: At least you fill the void with a more talented receiver in Justin Jefferson. You can thank the Eagles for not picking him up when they had the chance.
2020: You get off to a horrid 1-5 start to the season and never recover. Key defensive pieces Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks suffer injuries and your defense falls off a cliff. Justin Jefferson may be outstanding, but Kirk Cousins regresses from 2019. Even without fans in the stands due to COVID, you still manage to punch them in the dick.
2021: OK, you've got Barr and Kendricks back, you've got the pieces to make a deep playoff run. And you suffer painful loss after painful loss and miss the playoffs at 8-9. I mean, just how many ways can you guys lose? Missing yet another chip shot field goal to lose to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2? Losing to a Dallas Cowboys team without Dak Prescott in Week 8? Losing to a winless Detroit Lions team in Week 13 because your defense went full Vikings on the Lions' final drive? You guys really are pathetic. You deserve to be sitting on your asses in January.
2022 offseason: You finally give Mike Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman the axe after years of woeful underachieving. You hire an inexperienced head coach in Kevin O'Connell, fresh off a Super Bowl victory with the Los Angeles Rams.
2022: Wow! You clinch the NFC North against the Indianapolis Colts with the largest comeback in NFL history! I gotta tip my hat to you for that. Sure the point differential isn’t impressive and you’ve barely gotten by in several games, but you are the cardiac kids. This is your time. Now bring that Lombardi to the twin cities!
2022 Wild Card Round: And you lose your first one-score game of the season in the playoffs against a resurgent but injury-riddled New York Giants squad. A par for the course one-and-done for this franchise. Ed Donatell can be chucked to the wolves for his failures.
2023 Week 5: Regression strikes you hard, as through five games, you have already lost as many games as you did all of last season. All of the losses have been by one score. Everyone that called you fraudulent last season feels vindicated. (cue Madden bone cracks sound) And you lose Justin Jefferson for an extended period of time. God you guys are fucked.
2023 Week 8: Wait a minute, you pulled off three straight wins to revive your season? Without Justin Jefferson? One of them coming against white hot San Francisco? Damn. I'm impressed. You might have playoffs in your future if you keep playing like this (cue bone cracks) and you lost Kirk Cousins for the season. You may have traded for a nice rental in Josh Dobbs to fill his void, but this is a tough blow to take. You guys really are cursed, aren't you?
2023: Dobbs reaches meme status and he guides you to another two wins, but then his magic unfortunately runs out. But hey, you’re 7-6 and in position to make the playoffs in a weak NFC. You even have Justin Jefferson back to torch opposing secondaries! And then you bow out by losing your final four games of the season. Why am I not shocked by this?
March 11, 2024: You can finally say goodbye to your hated quarterback, as he departs for a massive bag and another hell in Atlanta. You fill the void with Sam Darnold. I swear if he’s starting for you this season…
