This 3pt series is GR8! Explains all those mystery chords I run into (like, why is there suddenly a major II here?) I'm a "classical' hobby pianist, only 6 months into moving into jazz now. Only just starting to assimilate some of the things in these 3 videos now. I start my piano practice at 5 am w 1 of Jeremy's videos, just to inspire me while I have coffee and get the sounds into my head, then I get to the keyboard - kinda like, sipping coffee and watching an exercise video before you go out for a run. 😃 Thinking more about how chord changes/alterations provide momentum, even if you're not changing tempo. IMHO no one else explains these subtle things about music.

You're the best, Jane! Wow - 5 AM...you are more studious than me! I hope you're feeling the improvements!

This series is great. I don't know why I started from part 3, now only the second part remains. :) A ton of information and fun. Thank you

So glad I found your channel! You are explaining a lot of things that have been very mysterious to me, and that I haven't seen anyone else talk about, and doing it concisely.

So agree! the "mystery" chords the don't fit in at all diatonically - like 1/2 step below suddenly.

Amazing video Jeremy! Sometimes I like to add a dominant chord a half step below the tonic but right on the one downbeat of the tonic chord measure, to sort of delay the tonic resolution. And keep the tonic in the bass before resolving with the right hand on beat 2 or so. Makes for a fun, crunchy sound.

Stay tuned for part two of the series. I call something very similar a “common tone diminished”
