I was nine and was amazed at this show so well written!! And yes Johnny Cash did the classic song! The Rebel is classic American television when decency was a topic we took seriously!!
When you talk about the "morals" of the time, I assume you are a white male? This show was based on fiction, Johnny Yuma wasn't real, have you watched a movie called Mississippi Burning now that WAS real, it was based on what actually happened in America on a regular basis, when you are going to make statements based on your own fantasy, you really should try to be closer to the facts, America has never been a country where morals was high on the totem pole, hence they went to war with THEMSELVES, They assassinated their own President at least FOUR times, Smoking in every TV show and movies of the times was subliminally pushing drugs on children that killed millions, America has always had the highest murder rates in the western world, No America was never big on morals, what they were always the world champs at was BULLSHIT.....but what they are even better at....is believing BULLSHIT! Why can't you just say I love this show, praise the show all you like, but don't get bogged down in fantasy P.S. it was censorship that protected you from bad words, nothing to do with morals, they allowed cigarette advertising and even worse was subliminal advertising that killed many, many millions of Americans, does that sound like "high morals" to you? Not to mention the animal cruelty in these old TV shows and movies, horses were just collateral damage Nuff said!
Thank you for these videos. I know today no network would dare to show them. A show with a rebel hero, just imagine the meltdowns taking place. Hopefully you will be able to continue to show these programs
Really good episode. We didn't get this series here in the UK but we did have Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Lone Ranger in the late 1950's and 1960's. I am enjoying watching this series for the first time. Thanks for posting.
Very very good episode. Fear in a fearful situation is normal and a survival instinct. Here it is used by a manipulator to destroy innocent lives. Excellent acting, beautiful story line, good writing. Also an excellent upload. Clear sound also visually. Thanks for this upload golden classictv!!
I just saw this episode tonight on Tubi and was really impressed with it. 20:14 to 23:35 is a slow building but powerful scene, climaxing with a burst of violence that was graphic for 1959. "The Rebel" was considered one of the more violent Westerns of its time, and its popularity among juvenile delinquents was cited as one of the reasons why it was cancelled despite being a ratings hit. Great post...
Most episodes are heartwarming family fare, extremely non-violent compared to other shows in the genre. Where did you get your "information"? (I got mine from watching the series.)
This is the second episode of The Rebel I have seen, pretty good show, I am surprised I haven't seen it before, growing up in the 70's and all, westerns were pretty popular in the 60's and 70's, I used to watch the Rifleman, Gunsmoke, and Bonanza, regularly.
they learned a lot more in school back then too they actually taught American history instead of indoctrinating them, and real math instead of this common core crap.
Interesting life lesson. The men that shot Bussey were shooting at their own guilt. He was a scapegoat for all of them. Of course, life doesn't work that way. Your guilt is your own, no one else can carry it for you. Too bad some humans still haven't learned that.
Johnny Cash doing the theme must have been omitted for copy write reasons. This a pretty good story. I was 10 back then and loved the show. Haven't seen it in decades since.
Reminded me of a Have Gun Will Travel episode, that was until the end when they all shot the guy after he was dead, lol. Hard core show, I liked it! Thanks for posting!
Actually he switched to his dad's handgun and holster in the first episode - and didn't check to see if it was loaded!! Got into some trouble because of that, then the deputy threw him his dad's scattergun.
What I want to know is, what happened to the Johnny Cash theme from the rebel. A good show but not quite the same without Johnny Cash. On the flip side funny to hear a Reb with a New York accent Nick did have one.
--And it was Elvis Presley that got Nick Adams his start in show business.--Adams was also on one episode of The Outer Limits 3/30/64 named :Fun And Games.--Adams was very good in all the parts he got.--Elvis made a good choice & Adams did not want too ever let Presley down and he didn't.

None of the people in the house show signs and symptoms of advanced diphtheria. The ignorance of people is astounding. "Squatters"? How did they build a house without being taken off the land? Good riddance to a murderer!
Frontier Justice! ..for an evil violent scumbag. Sure wish that little girl had survived. This series really had a sharp edge to it. Perhaps a little too much edge or violence for that era....which might explain why it lasted only 2 seasons. Example": instead of just arresting the bad guy....They all take out their guns and keep shooting him...classic overkill...which may have caused adults , esp. with children to forego otherwise decent plots. This series , in other words, failed because it pushed the envelope too far for the sensibilities of most viewers in the 1950s.
This episode is a clear exception to its norm of heartwarming, family oriented stories. Watch the whole series and you'll see what an aberration this one is. Way less violence than Gunsmoke and most the rest of its contemporaries in the genre.
at about 5-55 the man says get the gasoline ....it would not be gasoline in that time but kerosene! Gasoline was a by-product and thrown away as useless then ...
I don’t think his career was doing as well as he hoped. He worked so hard. Don’t believe he committed suicide, deliberately. He loved his children and had taken with him while filming Fever Heat before he died. I think it was a tragic accident.
Wouldn't it be nice to walk, run, or even crawl up to a machine and dial the numbers up or down without the penalty of aging, or losing a stasis of experiencing, or being? Unfortunately these fleshly body shells we live in, AND everything empirical aroundus us just ain't cut out of creation that way. If impractical and impossible, it's OKAY to dream now and then again; right?
Hope some took this story to heart fear does things that can not be justified ! no matter how long it takes to recall what caused it or whom caused it !...
The millions of dead from Covid 19, all around the world, really took it too far! Those bastards! Amazing how all medical professionals the world over are in on it. SMH...
Certainly wouldn't broadcast these shows. Can't rewrire history no matter how some try to do so.
Thanks for these classics.

Where's Johnny Cash?

The late 50's were the golden age for Westerns.
One of the best.
If I’m not mistaken, the man credited as Jamsel Farah is the fellow we later came to know as Jamie Farr of “Mash” fame.
You're not mistaken.
I thought that he looked like Clinger.
I love Johnny Yuma with his dad’s scattergun.
that's a pretty advanced storyline and level of violence for broadcast TV of that period.
this is are history and about our values that built this nation
Violence, murder and greed built this nation.

much better actor than the rest. he had beleievability in a range of emotions
Back in the day when TV taught lessons in social consciousness and argued agassinst ignorance
Amen...born 1955
@Vigilante Jake But couldn't get the full sense of it. Anyway, school is supposed to teach knowledge not life.

It was like an ancient Greek morality play.

it's in all the other Rebel episodes on this channel.
I know and am glad to aee you point that out!
good american values. college and high schools need to show these shows. vets for trump
Not anymore. These were old-fashioned values. Now self-seeking is the norm.

wow great clip, great picture, great sound, watched this as a child. one of my favorites. does anyone know where i can purchase this on dvd thanks.
I think that was Jamie Farr at 5:00 with the shotgun
He played Ab.
Jamsel Farah aka Jamie Farr aka klinger from the 4077
@MrAutodidactic - It is Jamie Farr, however, he had a rifle rather than a shotgun.
Fantastic
Is that Jamie Farr with the shot gun in the start scene from Mash
hey , his nose looks smaller ! LOL
