Mark Goddard was one of my childhood heroes along with Adam West and Ron Elly. Mr. Goddard became a teacher and I wish I could talk to him. I'm a teacher too. Anyway it's very good to watch him in Johnny Ringo, a series older than Lost in Space. Thanks a lot. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!
November the 5th is my birthday and in 1959 I was 9 years old and loved all these old westerns,The Rebel, Gun Smoke,Lone Ranger just to name a few. Thanks for bringing these back..
i'm 62 & grew up with the great tv westerns & war series along with about a million other kids - we played with guns inside outside & we did not turn homicidal maniacs - back in the 50's - weak minded kids nowadays - too bad - whatta time to grow up back then - can't beat it
Thanks for uploading this Stuart. I love all these old shows,I wish the networks would repeat more of them. Just sick of Get Smart,Hogans Heros, etc being repeated 30x.
The Johnny Ringo actor, looks quite a bit like Val Kilmer in a black and white, Western. I saw this show on a nostalgia TV station, probably nickelodeon. Back in the 90's. Thought it was a pretty cool concept, for an old cowbell show. Only watched it that one Sunday,. Never saw it before, or since. Nice to see this very unique Aaron Spelling creation, again. Thank you for posting.
The BEST western upload I've seen in a long time! Reminds me of the WB "Lawman" series. Guess Aaron Spelling decided to do other things later. Thanks for this!
Kent cigs (1st commercial). Use to switch around with those in the early to mid 60's. A friend of mine's mom smoked them and we'd snag 'em every now and then. A great show, use to love it and ''Thanks for putting it up''. We need all the ones available to air on TH-cam. Again, Thanks
" ...finest money can buy..." That tobacco leaves darn near COVERED the entire table. No way would this play today. And back in the day the cigs had NO filter!!! I smoke and I know those things would make me LITERALLY fall to my knees. LOL
The series aired on Thursdays at 8:30pm(et), following "THE BETTY HUTTON SHOW"; both lasted one season. Lorillard Tobacco [Kent] was the series' sponsor (the first and third commercials, produced in New York, were originally videotaped, and transferred to kinescope film for this print). 29:15- "'DICK POWELL'S ZANE GREY THEATER' is next, on the CBS Television Network".
The Deputy Sheriff is Mark Goddard (born Charles Harvey Goddard; July 24, 1936) is an American actor who has starred in a number of television programs. He is probably best known for portraying Major Don West, the adversary of Dr. Zachary Smith (played by Jonathan Harris), in the CBS series Lost in Space (1965-68). He also played Detective Sgt. Chris Ballard, The Detectives, starring Robert Taylor.
At 15:32 in the cigarette commercial they have a dude who looks like he is constantly in the gym as one of the smokers . They in those days never showed a smoker who was unhealthy looking , coughing and wheezing , suffering as they smoked .Note to the folks . When they banned those commercials TV people were concerned about ever making up the lost revenue .
Notice the special gun that has the 7th bullet or was it shotgun shell? It was the star of the show and saved Ringo often when villains thought he was out of bullets. Other special guns were the sawed off winchester in Wanted Dead or Alive and Wyatt Earp's long barrel pistols. The Rifleman had the custom rifle with round lever. These made great cap guns you could buy in toy stores as a kid. Those were the days.
The .410 actiually did fit certain pistols. The cartridges for a .410 would not fall directly out of the cylinder, so it was still in the chamber. The rest came from Ringo's quick reaction to the dropped gun, after taking out the first gun and beating the others out of the draw. Perfectly executed. Not unlike real.
the revolver with the shotgun barrel is a LaMatt. it saw limited use by the confederacy during the civil war. the chamber for the shotgun was in the center of the revolving cylinder. it chambered an approximately 20 gauge charge. the real LaMatts were cap and ball guns and not known as being pleasant to shoot (shotgun barrel). they were not very reliable either. you can find modern reproductions today.
+Mark Lasserre Agree completely. While the plot in "The Posse" did not really need Karen, her presence IS the bright spot making the story MUCH better. The same can be said of almost all other Johnny Ringo stories. The one story I've seen without Karen,(The Accused, Story 3) I definitely miss her presence. I think her relationship to Johnny, Case and Cully humanize the male characters, making the stories MUCH better.
About the micronite filters in the cigarette ads. "Lorillard named its first filtered cigarette for Herbert A. Kent, briefly its president, and aggressively touted the superiority of the Micronite filter, a blend of cotton, acetate, crepe paper, and crocidolite asbestos-sometimes called “African” or “Bolivian blue” asbestos because of its bluish tint."
Rare series. this was one of Aaron Spelling's really early shows, likely spun-off from "ZANE GREY'S WESTERN THEATER" from the people at Four Star, the production outfit, that did "TRACKDOWN","WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE" and "THE RIFFLEMAN"- all part of the great TV Westerns of the 50s and 60s. Mark Goddard was a series' regular, shortly before working in another Four Star TV series,"THE DETECTIVES", and eventually as "Don West",from CBS's "LOST IN SPACE".
I watched this western and many more western shows in my time. Each being sponsored by cigarettes. Thing about me I never acquired the smoking habit because I didnt see the thrill in it. I am 70 years old and never smoked or drank alchol one time.
There's nothing that says hangin and lynch mob justice like a smooth tasting Kent cigarette. Whether it's the filter, the paper, or the tobacco blend, Kent is the best from end to end...
Agreed, as history goes this is a joke, but to play devil's advocate, they were not meant as history, but a way to forget what you put up with at the office al day.
Michael The gun you are speaking about is a LaMat pistol developed by the french during 1860's and sold to the federal government during the civil war every now and then a LaMat will show up at a gun show
I don't even know where to start with everything that's wrong with that revolver. They have a break top revolver that's loaded with cartridges then they show a percussion cap Le Mat that has a nine round cylinder. I'm going to stop there even though that just scratches the surface. Still, I really like these old westerns even when continuity is totally thrown out the window.
Just think of How many millions have started smoking with these innocent commercials Then died some extremely suffering using all of the energy grasping for that last breath at the same time craving for nicotine But I like 12 oclock High even though I did get to work on F-4's in USMC 12 yrs later
" Kent is the best from end to end..." Long train on dress blowing gloriously in the breeze...now that's how you sell a cigarette to women!!! Forget about the porous filter to cater to women just get a big fancy evening dress and a righteous hairdo and go for it...lol The commercials back then were unbelievable
DUDE! where can i buy some Kent! I need that rich tobacco flavor that satisfies me for a shit while! forgot what i was watching! oh yeah, that dude from that one twilight zone episode! the piano in the house! dam that twilight zone episode was trippy as fudge. fuck this show, go watch that!i was only talking to Bill! yes you Bill
"...on your appaloosas gentlemen..." Really? Neither of those mounts looked like an appie to me. This has to be an example of the worst TV western of the era. Some of these actors were TV regulars back in the day and they mostly delivered far better performances than this, which suggests the problems here were writing and direction/production. The whole Ringo character is totally out of line - not even close to historical reality. The real Ringo was a lunatic killer who either committed suicide or received his just desserts from Doc Holliday depending on what version you believe - definitely not some goodie two-shoes as depicted here.

Great quality picture and audio. Thanks for the upload! Love the westerns from this era.
Still watch westerns and war movies. Still haven't killed anyone in my 70 years.
Thanks for uploading this Stuart. I love all these old shows,I wish the networks would repeat more of them. Just sick of Get Smart,Hogans Heros, etc being repeated 30x.

This is so cool.....I used to LOVE this show as a kid!
Really cool to include the historical commercial!
Brings back more memories. The revolver with the shotgun underneath. Six and watching Johnny Ringo. 58 westerns dominated the airwaves. Decisions...
The BEST western upload I've seen in a long time! Reminds me of the WB "Lawman" series. Guess Aaron Spelling decided to do other things later. Thanks for this!

That was the brand my mother smoked when I was growing up...
SuperHardshell 25¢ a pack
Thank you so much for uploading! This is my favourite episode.
Kent satisfies..... My ass. Commercials like these are responsible for the smoking addiction of my generation. Im 60 and still addicted
Love it! Wish there wqere more complete shows like this!
I USED TO WATCH THIS SERIES AS A KID PERFECTLY DUBBED IN LATINO SPANISH IN PUERTO RICO.
The real Ringo was a psychopathic murderer, and never a law enforcement officer. But it’s fun to see commercials that were outlawed 50 years ago.
I really want a KENT
The cigarette commercials make me laugh now!
" ...finest money can buy..."
That tobacco leaves darn near COVERED the entire table.
No way would this play today.
And back in the day the cigs had NO filter!!!
I smoke and I know those things would make me LITERALLY fall to my knees. LOL
One of these guys played on Lost in Space.Who remembers Lost in Space ?
The heavy that was in the jail was in one of my favorite Twilight Zones, "Dead Man's Shoes" a few years later.
just great

1:50 - This bartender is also the bartender on the Rifleman.
Mark Goddard, who plays Ringo's deputy, went on to star as Major Don West on "Lost In Space" (1965-68).

As real as any other method of self-defense; the attacker isn't aware of what's to happen next.
Don't forget before Mark Goddard became Major Don West he was in The Detectives with Robert Taylor and Adam West (Batman).
Karen Sharpe was the best thing about this show.
+Mark Lasserre Agree completely. While the plot in "The Posse" did not really need Karen, her presence IS the bright spot making the story MUCH better. Only wish they had similar shows to this on telly today instead of the crap they call xfactor etc.
I love the old General! He got his first prisoner of war!
Dang. I wasn't expecting the cig commercial. lol
Fun Fact: Major Don West had gig as a small town deputy before he finally moved on and became an astronaut.
I tell you boys even I'm worried what's gonna happen once Ringo runs this outfit, God have mercy!!!
The great Richard Devon!
''Why Johnny Ringo, You look like somebody just walked all over your Grave''
Tobacco Cigarette advertisements have been banned in Australia for many many years. Here an of Kent cigarettes!
Richard Devon as Jesse the badman!
Do they still manufacture Kent cigarettes?
please get some Johnny Ringo
the commercial is all telling, one smoke satisfies
you for a long time, hell they knew even then the
dangers of smoking.
I can remember when cigarette commercials were ubiquitous on tv.

My thought exactly. i watched this and i was like...dudes, theres a backdoor. why is no one going to it?
Was Johnny Ringo a "Starr-ing" role?
You Cant Walk, in Your Grandad's Room without seeing this.....

In my country , Uruguay . the publicity of tobacco is strictly forbidden, is it also in the states ?
Yes, today it is forbidden but not back then.
The old cigarette ads.😉
There's nothing that says hangin and lynch mob justice like a smooth tasting Kent cigarette. Whether it's the filter, the paper, or the tobacco blend, Kent is the best from end to end...
inbredagogo .....”With a micronite filter”....
Ha, you certainly don't see cigarette commercials anymore. 1:54

Memories of simpler days. Were lynch mobs didn’t know about back doors 😂
They took an original LeMat and converted it to fire cartridges. By turning it into a breaktop.
There are ONLY six bullets in a gun...The opening scene shows seven shots along with seven sounds...
Their fault for the robbery for leaving the bank unattended and no one checked the back door of the jail. Seriously?
ESTIMADO Stuart TE AGRADECERIA SI PUDIERA SUBIR, JOHNNY RINGO EN ESPAÑOL O INGLE -EL EPISODIO { CULLY },GRACIAS Y BENDICIONES,,

"You're invited to a party! Don't worry about a 'necktie'; we'll only be too glad to supply one for one!"
LOVE THE 50'S DECADE. TOO BAD THEY DIDN'T KNOW HOW DANGEROUS SMOKING WAS.
Did the lynch mob stop for a Kent?😀
Was the deputy Mark Goddard? Major Don West on “Lost in Space”.
Yes - Mr. Mark Goddard!
Bob Wright speaks for Kent cigarettes.
great western ,i love the fancy gun a seven shoter ha ha thats funny
I thought Johnny Ringo was an outlaw, working with the Clantan gang.
Just think of How many millions have started smoking with these innocent commercials Then died some extremely suffering using all of the energy grasping for that last breath at the same time craving for nicotine But I like 12 oclock High even though I did get to work on F-4's in USMC 12 yrs later
Wow! 7 shots from a six shooter..
What we need is a battering ram! (Or go around to the back door, it's wide open!) Geez. Have a Kent and get over it!
Walter Sande badman too!
Haha I always force myself to think he is a different person with a same name.

I need a smoke...
The same goes for "The Texan". Bill Longley was no saint, either; and Rory Calhoun playing him as a law-abiding nomad is funny.
That horse is not an appaloosa.

I believe by that time Kent revamped the filter and took out the secret ingredient it originally had...asbestos.
@@tomservo56954 Kent had what it called "The micronite filter" when it got around to making filtered cigs.
What's the easiest way to kill Superman?
Light up a Kent!!!
Kent does'nt beat the finest weed!
Ojala estas seriesFueran en espanol
U ruined my addiction of watching these old series by adding back the commercials ,will not watch this site no more 😤 😒
Pray, who may the comely lass be? A vestal virgin just ripe for the pluckin'.

Mob mentality. We still see it today. .... I wonder if the barber went out of business ....
Q? The Civil War wasn't all that old during the Old West Days. So, wouldn't the old general be a lot younger? He looks like he's in his 90's?! 😆
I thought Johnny Ringo was a bad guy.
"...on your appaloosas gentlemen..." Really? Neither of those mounts looked like an appie to me. This has to be an example of the worst TV western of the era. Mob justice is not justice.
Kent had the micronite filter. He forgot to say that.
scott goodman it was mentioned in the other commercial...
The need for a cigarette, means an addiction. Plain and simple.
Realfunny: AMEN BROTHER!
SÌG COMM IS OVER DON AND LOÑG DATS HOW MUCH$$$ THEY MAKIN TO KILL SLOWLY😂😂
