- Taken 9/4/24 at Stapleton, Great Kills, New Dorp, and St. George.
Here’s the first set of Kawasaki R211S trains signed up as a SIR Local running along the Staten Island Railway. This train set (comprised of #100-104) was undergoing automated announcement systems (AAS) testing, to make sure that the signage and announcements are in working order. This is one of the last tests before the train enters revenue service.
Once this set completes its testing, the rest of the 75-car R211S order will start arriving, entering service to replace the older R44s currently in service on the Staten Island Railway.
That dog felt a disturbance in the force when the new train came slipping in
finally able to hear the announcements, awesome!
Cool catch
It’s like an announcement reveal.1:40
“This is a St.George bound local train the next stop is Grant City”.
R211S Subway Cars On The Staten Island Railway Being Tested Out Already?!:-\
YESS THE ANNOUNCEMENT REVEAL
I notice a slight difference in the propulsion here.
It was slipping
Yes
Why do they do testing late at night?
Causes less delays for normal trains I think
Avoids passenger confusion and service disruption, as fewer people use trains at night and they run less often.
Less delays and trains
Along with the above reasons, it gives the test train an extra buffer while out on the road. With less trains out in service, the test train won't be as disruptive to service if it has any problems / needs to be rescued.
Is there any difference between these and there r211a?
A few minor differences, the biggest one being the cab signaling in the R211S
THAT RAILWAY NEEDS NEW MANAGEMENT!
