how is it fun to watch with low res video, mumbling presenters, and no subtitles, posted 10 hours after it was streamed? EDIT and awful sound with echo,
@tomasbenchat697 nope, my intel laptop is functional, but noisy with the fan noise from opening a few chrome tabs and multi tasking with other apps. Add that to the 4-5 hrs battery life pain (that's so common with Intel devices) I could care less about AI, but more about power consumption and efficiency on a portable device. Most of the apps I use are already ARM native, and the other ones are working well with emulation. (I've tested w11 ARM quite a bit on my Mac studio)
One of the most important show in the history of the pcs powered by AI. Microsoft has just gave the huge challenge to apple already. Man i’m loving each moment of this revolutionary time period happening now.😊😮
The Recall feature is unacceptable. Windows 11 was bad enough already, with recall embedded into the OS, how could any admin allow this into a Government, large or medium business? No matter how secure you say it is, we know it's a lie. All security can be worked around, DON'T SAVE THE DATA TO BEGIN WITH!!!!!!
Microsoft said Recall will not be turned on by default, and users can limit which snapshots the feature will collect by specifying the applications or websites in which their activity should not be recorded.
@Feuer-ks3rr I believe it's on by default. But anyway, the only way this feature is 'ok' is if it was an app or service downloaded from the MS store. It should NEVER EVER be part of the OS or part of an OS update.
I like the ARM PCs, but the CEO about 5 minutes in said "the web started on Windows", actually, the first graphical browser was initially written to run on Unix, and the first web server and browser clients in general ran on NextStep, which is a Unix also albeit from Steve Jobs.
What has Microsoft done best since their founding? Play dirty tricks and make the majority of people think that Microsoft essentially invented all modern tech and everyone copied them. Give it enough time and they will be saying "The cloud started on Azure" I was talking to someone recently who was shocked to hear when I told them that Mac OS predates Windows.
@@KingpinEX Netscape ran on Windows 3.1 also I think, and on other operating systems definitely. Windows just was a popular OS and the web became more popular when it included explorer and a tcpip stack
The web was literrally born on Steve Jobs' NeXT computer, by some guy named Tim Berners lee. And the internet went mainstream with the 1999 iMac G3 computers.
Hehe, you can visibly see even in the demo video, that the new surface laptop dims the display brightness to achieve longer battery life (39:08 still bright anbd at 39:12 dimmed down).
I am puzzled. I am very bullish on AI. I using it every day and it saves me hours…but none of the AI examples here made any sense. Do I really want an AI telling me what to do on a video game. Having a friend watching over my shoulder telling me how to play a video game is terrible. Why would I want an AI to do that. How many auto-translation demos have we seen? In Skype. In pixel buds. Rabbit and AI pin. Yes, this is getting better and will soon work well. But another translation demo?!? And the art and dancing? Not so different from AI art we have now. In fact much worse. I have seen really beautiful AI hart and AI videos have taken my breath away. What she produced was generic and unremarkable. And the AI always watching what I am doing. So I can find a blue dress or orange sofa I saw before? Bizarre. If you want us to surrender every click to the AI - it had better be for something amazing. LLM and LAM AI is going to (already has) changed the world. After this Demo I wonder if Microsoft really understands that future. They have been given one of the great leaps of our time - and this is what they can think to do with it?
Now if only Microsoft had had a visionary CEO with the foresight to stay in the mobile market and keep Cortana going so those platforms could take full advantage of GPT LLM advancements. Ah well, at least we still have Hololens. Right? Right? Hey guys?
You'll be able to disable Copilot about as efficiently as you can set up a firewall to prevent Windows from sending "telemetry", as they call it. You can toggle the switch that says "Copilot" in the setting, but don't ever be lulled into thinking that software won't be active and scanning your data and activity to report to Microsoft. After all, PCs can't possibly function without sending data to Microsoft, Apple, Google or whatever you're using.
*Forced cumulative update lands on a patch Tuesday*...Introducing Copilot! Click to get started! (cancel/no thanks button hidden with dark patterns or non-existent)
Recall reminds me of the cut feature in the photos app, where it would tag objects in your photos library, entirely offline, and let you search through those tags. Those are the kinds of features I love. Only when they're offline though.
@@Mr_Battlefield or you can ditch Windows for something like Linux and still have the Internet with much more privacy. People have every right to be upset and/or concerned and to dismiss it like you are is nothing short of ignorant.
Okay, but can it redesign my PowerPoint slides, re-edit my work directly in Word, buid an Excel Sheet from a data set, capture and perform repetitive tasks in an interval or on an event, convert handwriting, identify content-related mistakes, generate and analyze source code within VS, reorganize and rename my files, monitor my work based on conversation in teams and give me on-the-fly suggestions to incorporate into the discussion or generate a summary afterwards, remind me of work-related tasks based on my work routine, automatically write emails within Outlook based on work related discussions, or learn to support users to control any software UI out there... ? 🤔
As much as i enjoy the shots at the air, they're making a "new class of pc" that by definition has an install base of zero and pinning a bunch of windows features on it? Sounds like a great idea. Also so out of touch to assume the only type ofpc is an arm laptop, it might be "5x" faster that the old windows rt tablets, but what about the other 99.9% pcs that are out there
Well, windows 10 updated itself, installed copilot, and I woke up to my computer fan whirring as it helped itself to my hard drive. I just pulled all my files and am in the process of wiping the drive. Goodbye Windows. Don’t ever contact me again.
Apple reinvigorated the industry back in 2020 with their M Series ARM SOC chips. It makes sense that Microsoft and the rest of the manufacturers would eventually follow suit. Now the M4 series is out all of the comparisons vs a base series M3 are already old (obvious that they are the leading platform hence the numerous comparisons). It’s Apples lead to lose and undoubtedly they won’t give it up without a fight. Let’s see what Apple releases at WWDC. Will be interesting to see what their long awaited AI plans are, along with what hardware will get their M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. Will also be interesting to see their side by side comparisons. Great year ahead across the entire industry.
Right. I am impressed by these new Copilot PCs, but I definitely still prefer MacBooks so I hope Apple pushes on the gas with their AI ambitions. Still nice to see more premium builds, more power, and better energy efficiency from Windows laptops.
The new gen Mac chips have been the most efficient and powerful chips to run LLMs on locally to my knowledge. Challenged by MS now, it seems like. But they're a great choice for developers especially, while MS is putting AI tools in all the things in Windows and Azure (which isn't at all what I'm interested in personally - I like to choose when to use these tools). I'm also personally running Linux on my computers so not the typical consumer (I used MacOS for a few years too, and grew up on Windows, like most people).
One thing I'm curious about is the Minecraft demonstration. How does it work exactly? Does it hook directly to the game itself, or is it just looking for things in the window itself like a makeshift OCR or reverse image search? Because the former implies an entire API that can be integrated with this thing. And that's exciting. Microsoft has recently moved to making things open source, so it's likely that's going to be made public soon. Which opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.
As a Samsung Galaxy Tab user I never thought I'd see the day I would consider switching back to windows .. but here it is, all thanks to ARM! Finally Microsoft is doing the Apple way of getting rid of the inefficient legacy x86 bloat that has been hogging down the PC space for a decade! The Snapdragon X Elite with W11 native code and Prism is a revolution that people have no idea of the scope of.
This is definitely a revolution in the world of computing Funfact - Did anyone notice the command block near the tree in the Minecraft clip Perhaps Ryan didn't want to craft a crafting table and gather mats😅😅😅
They can technically bring her back. They should have a feature where you can download a voice pack for copilot. Imagine meaning able to download: Cortana, Alpha, Omega, Epsilon from Red vs Blue, Jarvis, Hal 9000, Optimus Prime, KITT, GLaDOS etc. Those that are licences properties they can let people pay to get premium voices.
Coming to a future near you: You: "Recall, give me that series I was watching on Netflix yesterday." Recall: "I can't do that, Dave. I'm afraid I can't access DRM."
It certainly would be interesting to see how it runs after a year or two of constant use. Is all that browsing data continuously stored on a local device or is slowly archived and stored somewhere in the cloud? Will it reduce the life of SSD's due to the fact that data will be being constantly written to the drive? Just how safe is your data that's stored in the recall system? Questions I'm sure the clapping seals were all eager to ask instead of just sitting there like excited school children watching a Punch and Judy show.
They will convince you that it’s safe to store your data on cloud and how it can’t be hacked because they added a 1008k bit key encryption. So finally you end up putting all your data on cloud whereas, you could have bought the dress in a brick and mortar store in first place without having to go all across the world searching for it.
Wait. The new Surface Keyboard is wireless? Why is nobody talking about that?! All that AI stuff, but this is my highlight! 😅😂 EDIT: Okay, they did talk about it, and the Flex keyboard cost 350,00 bucks. No thank you!^^'. Also, update the slim pen already! Two buttons placed slightly more up front and better materials/production quality. That's all I'm asking! You want to annoy Apple? Understandable: enhance the pressure precision and add more tilting capacities. There, you get a valid alternative for artists on the go!
The feature for Recall is scary AF. They basically keep record of things you have been doing on your computer. I mean what if you have personal convesation on discord and your sibling use recall on your computer.
I had bought the Surface Pro on Arm from a few years ago. It was slow and frustrating. The Surface Pro 11 was absolutely amazing and it is a pleasure to use. It is fast, long battery life, and it is a great portable device. I teach college so I saved on the purchase price and used that savings to get the pen, keyboard, and the Surface mouse. It is nice that Windows has taken a quick leap ti close the gap with Apple.
As microsoft switches to ARM, Intel and AMD will have to make ARM based processors and application/games developers will have to port their software to ARM. If that happens then gaming on Mac might also become a big thing. It would be interesting to see how this switch from x86 to ARM pans out.
Not really, Intel and AMD recently released their first processors with built in dedicated NPUs but they're just dipping their toe into the water here.. As an aside, technically the Xbox Series X delivers ~50 TOPS of 8bit and ~100 TOPS at 4b of compute, but that is using special GPU instructions and not a dedicated unit.. 40 TOPS is what Microsoft requires for the copilot PC which is why it's only Qualcomm right now, but a lot of PCs should be capable, and soon AMD and Intel will launch with competent NPUs as well.
Microsoft is simply copying Apple in this because they realised the performance potentials are way better than Intel and AMD x86 architecture. It's a painful transition but it must be done. As this presentation shows the performance levels are way better. Ultimately the big winner will be...drum roll...TSMC
Guys, My surface pro 4 doesn’t turn on, it stays blank even on charge, no light no sound. It was working, turned off, but doesn’t turn back on now. any ideas?
May with Windows 20. They're so focused on stuffing ads and AI in every corner of Windows, they've forgotten the fundamentals of a consistent user interface...
Privacy died a long time ago, today is the day that storage died. The amount of data these devices are going to be storing is going to be astronomical especially if "Recall" is storing as much data as they claim it is.
@@VirtualTrucker74 Privacy hasn't died, but people did lose their brain cells long time ago, we team penguin respect our time and privacy. Might be time to reconsider your life choices.
The increasing surveillance and spying in the system is concerning. No Copilot, Bing, or Edge for me. A clean Windows with WSL, minus the firewall, would suffice. I don't want AI snooping on my emails, documents, or messages. No forced features like Recall. Microsoft, if this is the direction you're taking, I will say: goodbye Windows and goodbye Microsoft. The used AI should be EXTERNAL, not integrated with all personal data! I'm considering switching to Linux for more privacy.

@Feuer-ks3rr I believe it's on by default.

As much as i enjoy the shots at the air, they're making a "new class of pc" that by definition has an install base of zero and pinning a bunch of windows features on it? Sounds like a great idea. Also so out of touch to assume the only type ofpc is an arm laptop, it might be "5x" faster that the old windows rt tablets, but what about the other 99.9% pcs that are out there
It's no different than having a touch screen on more expensive laptops vs none on cheap laptops.
Statements like this is what holds back progression in windows and we get a janky experience.
Best of luck to them

Coming to a future near you:
You: "Recall, give me that series I was watching on Netflix yesterday."
Recall: "I can't do that, Dave. I'm afraid I can't access DRM."
will recall affect the caching of the machine and will it slow down the machine after extensive use?
As microsoft switches to ARM, Intel and AMD will have to make ARM based processors and application/games developers will have to port their software to ARM. If that happens then gaming on Mac might also become a big thing. It would be interesting to see how this switch from x86 to ARM pans out.
Qualcomm
Not really, Intel and AMD recently released their first processors with built in dedicated NPUs but they're just dipping their toe into the water here.. As an aside, technically the Xbox Series X delivers ~50 TOPS of 8bit and ~100 TOPS at 4b of compute, but that is using special GPU instructions and not a dedicated unit..
40 TOPS is what Microsoft requires for the copilot PC which is why it's only Qualcomm right now, but a lot of PCs should be capable, and soon AMD and Intel will launch with competent NPUs as well.
no.
MacOS is fundamentally different and the Apple ARM CPU has removed key parts of the ARM reference architecture that impact numerical accuracy.
Microsoft is simply copying Apple in this because they realised the performance potentials are way better than Intel and AMD x86 architecture. It's a painful transition but it must be done. As this presentation shows the performance levels are way better. Ultimately the big winner will be...drum roll...TSMC
