Mrs. Brenda I made this today and it turned out so delicious. The dumplings were so delicious and everything was so flavorful. I did cheat and use a fully cooked chicken but to redeem from that I added extra chicken breast and used chicken stock to cook with instead of water. I added plenty of celery, green pepper, carrots and onions. I made it a true Southern dinner by adding sides of cornbread, broccoli and corn on the cob. This was so much better than anything I had made in the past and I thank you for your video!!

If there's chicken and dumplin's in heaven, and I hope there is, they will be made like this. This is how we had them as a kid. My doctor told me to go ahead and eat the skin and soft gristle as it lubricated my joints.

Ms Brenda, you’re making me miss my Mama. She made her dumplings like she did her biscuit dough. One thing she always did that I’ve never seen anyone on here do is thatafter her broth was at a soft rolling boil she would drop her dumplins in one at a time and she always dropped them from the side of the pot. As the pot began to fill, Mama would pull the dumplins away from the pots edge and leave room to drop her next dumplin. Like your mama told me to never stir. Lol.. wondering if anyone out there would have any idea the reason my Mama dropped her dumplings the way she did? God love her precious soul, we lost her 6/3/2015. Mama didn’t much care for dumplings but my Daddy, brother and i loved them. My brother wanted the chicken in his dumplins but Daddy didn’t. I would eat them either way! 😂 She would usually end up making chicken Salas with the leftover chicken. Ms Brenda, you’ve got me so hungry! It’s nearly 5 am. No sleep for me, but I have chicken wings. Sad to say, I’ve never mastered biscuit dough so I go the Bisquick route. God bless and thanks!!

Happy New Year Miss Brenda. You and I might be around the same age. Where did you grow up? I remember well picking blackberries until I got red bugs under my skin then I didn't want to pick them anymore but I sure did love eating the Cobblers. I love blackberry cobbler but I don't like dumplings at all! My mother loved them. At least one Sunday out of the month she wanted to stew a hen with dumplings and she would take part of the hen and the gravy out of the pot and put it in a smaller pot for her to put her dumplings in.😍 None of us kids like them. It's such a joy just hearing you talk and watching you cook. It reminds me so much of days gone by. I pray you have a blessed New Year and I enjoy so much watching and hearing you. God bless you

Yes....they did taste better. The stores bought ones are missing something. When went berry picking were eating and picking our berries even though my mother was telling us not to eat them because they needed to be washed. Looks DeeLicious Ms. Dee, looks like the ones my elders made when I was a child!!! My GreatUncle, My GreatGrandmother, My Mother made them delicious with cornbread...ooowee so good!!!! My GreatGrandmother made them cobblers, Peach, Blackberry, Blueberry every weekend because she still sold dinners after she closed her restaurant. She made them so delicious my Uncle, her grandson learned how to make them for himself!!!
My Dad loved those hens too! He said you gotta have a big fat hen for chicken and dumplings. He also like us to drop a couple of whole boiled eggs down in the dumplings to represent the whole hen and it was a prize or two for the lucky ones to find them. Good memories!!!

I think you have the right idea! We always used hens and kept the bones in for chicken and dumpling. An older hen has extra flavor.

Ms Brenda, you’re making me miss my Mama. She made her dumplings like she did her biscuit dough. One thing she always did that I’ve never seen anyone on here do is thatafter her broth was at a soft rolling boil she would drop her dumplins in one at a time and she always dropped them from the side of the pot. As the pot began to fill, Mama would pull the dumplins away from the pots edge and leave room to drop her next dumplin. Like your mama told me to never stir. Lol.. wondering if anyone out there would have any idea the reason my Mama dropped her dumplings the way she did? God love her precious soul, we lost her 6/3/2015. Mama didn’t much care for dumplings but my Daddy, brother and i loved them. My brother wanted the chicken in his dumplins but Daddy didn’t. I would eat them either way! 😂 She would usually end up making chicken Salas with the leftover chicken. Ms Brenda, you’ve got me so hungry! It’s nearly 5 am. No sleep for me, but I have chicken wings. Sad to say, I’ve never mastered biscuit dough so I go the Bisquick route. God bless and thanks!!

finally someone that makes dumplings like my mother did,,the other people on here were slicing thin pieces of dough and mixing them with the rest of recipe,not appealing to,,dumplings are supposed to be like biscuts served with the chicken and broth mixture.thanks maam

Happy New Year Miss Brenda. You and I might be around the same age. Where did you grow up? I remember well picking blackberries until I got red bugs under my skin then I didn't want to pick them anymore but I sure did love eating the Cobblers. I love blackberry cobbler but I don't like dumplings at all! My mother loved them. At least one Sunday out of the month she wanted to stew a hen with dumplings and she would take part of the hen and the gravy out of the pot and put it in a smaller pot for her to put her dumplings in.😍 None of us kids like them. It's such a joy just hearing you talk and watching you cook. It reminds me so much of days gone by. I pray you have a blessed New Year and I enjoy so much watching and hearing you. God bless you
Hello Ms Linda. I grew up in East Texas....and have been here all my life. I enjoyed the berry picking up until they mentioned the snakes...Lol. Yes...I do remember the red bugs. Yes....they did taste better. The stores bought ones are missing something. When went berry picking were eating and picking our berries even though my mother was telling us not to eat them because they needed to be washed. Looks DeeLicious Ms. Dee, looks like the ones my elders made when I was a child!!! My GreatUncle, My GreatGrandmother, My Mother made them delicious with cornbread...ooowee so good!!!!
My GreatGrandmother made them cobblers, Peach, Blackberry, Blueberry every weekend because she still sold dinners after she closed her restaurant. She made them so delicious my Uncle, her grandson learned how to make them for himself!!!
My Dad loved those hens too! He said you gotta have a big fat hen for chicken and dumplings. He also like us to drop a couple of whole boiled eggs down in the dumplings to represent the whole hen and it was a prize or two for the lucky ones to find them. Good memories!!!
