was 16 or 17 when this heavenly bomb dropped and have loved it ever since... we used to do the "bump" to it at high sch dances. Paul Carrack is a PHENOM in the music world and a stellar human. LOVE HIM
The guy has been around a long long time now , to an extent your correct, so widely respected by other artists, always the guy who could fit into band , very versatile. Iv always liked him , seen him several times and will again in a few weeks time , in short he is a musicians musician, Very nice guy too 👍
He is the musician’s musician. So many great musicians wanted to work with him, and he showed up on so many projects that he made better for being involved with them.
He got too much soul ( as if there's such a thing) But us Brothers and sisters LOOOVE THIS GUY. For years I used to brag he was black ... Serious compliment and HEAR THAT HARMONY.. THE BANDS BACK UP WAS BACK IN CHURCH. My dad preached so I was there with them haha. Thank you for posting this God-bless you.....
Still one of the best live performers I’ve ever seen. Do yourself a favour and make sure you get tickets next time he’s at venue near by. You will not be disappointed.
I’m 65, will be 66 in two weeks. I was in the Air Force stationed at Torrejon AB, just outside of Madrid Spain when this song was released by Ace. As most young GI’s, a nice stereo system was as vital as air. When I got this album, I wore it out playing it over and over. This song brought all of that back.
Great Performance. I remember how much I loved this when it first came out. I was a young teenager & was desperately listening for Radio 1 to play it every day. ❤
Thank you Paul. This one of the best songs ever written. It sounds as great today as it did in the 70s. You are still an awesome singer. Always loved this, and still do. Thanks again for bringing so much pleasure to our lives with your music. Love you man.
Discovered this songs accidentally when listening to rocks and classics. Now it's like a melody in mind when anything suspicious comes up, I sing out loud how long.😅
You bet it is. Man I'm so glad that guys like these are still around to let the younger folks no just how blessed we were in the seventies and eighties music Era. Enjoy young folks!
The guy in the background with the black shirt and white vest, black hair, well his smile is infectious. He makes me happy!!! Love this performance by all those involved!!
I love his version with Eric Clapton but this is much more intimate...wish I'd been there, I'd have been singing on the top of my really bad voice.. Paul is so talented
Paul you made it in the living room at the very best. Seeing so many people of different age being unite in happiness singing along this great song makes we wish to be there with you. I love this song since I heard the first time more than 45 years ago...simply amazing.
Paul Carrack has appeared on many other artists recordings over the years...his voice is so adaptable to just about any kind of music...multi talented on so many levels. I've always had the impression Paul never wanted to be pigeon holed musically and prefers intimate settings for his performances...what a gift he remains to all music lovers. I have his CD's programed into my IPod and blast the shit out of them while driving...my favorites "Sleep On It"..."Eyes of Blue"..."Let Me Love Again"...I could go on and on.... absolutely adore the sounds of Paul Carrack.
this bloke is tops. seen him a few times and every time he is off the dial. this song take me to a time 50 years ago when i went to football matches with my long departed dad. RIP Harry Alfred Snr xxx
Back in 1987, i was working at WKZL, Winston-Salem....Paul Carrack dropped by as he was promoting his new song "dont shed a tear". I had a chance to spend a while with him....incredibly SUPER NICE guy!! What a stellar singer too.
I just listened to a bunch of versions of this song. I LOVE the use of organ in this one. And Paul Carrack sounds better than he did when younger. Real talent! And the sound is pretty good being played in someone's house. :-)
When you see a band light up, smiles and enjoyment of the music all around and settle in the groove of a classic pop track, maybe one of the best ever.
Still sounds the same as when first recorded the man's voice just gets better with age
Funny how, while the lyrics are sad, everybody is so happy to join in to the singing. It's the power of music and Paul Carrack just nailed it.
It’s about a former band member moonlighting with another band behind their backs with intent to leave. It’s not about infidelity like most believe.
@@RickStamler Ah, interesting. Didn't know that.
@RickStamler it's still an infidelity. Thre are many ways to e cheated on, lied to, and taken advantage of.
Take note kids this is what real music and musicians sound like 👌🏻
In 2022, still one of the best songs ever written.
Agree
Can't argue. It is a timeless, brilliant, melodic gem

Would loved to have been Martin's neighbor when this jam was happening!

God bless the music makers
This was the song for ALL of the bands from Exeter to include in their set. What pure talent. We owe you so much Mr. Carrick.
This is the best version ever, Paul has a great perfomance and this characteristic voice, simply amazing, for me world music heritage.
Oh my god, those backing vocals are picked directly from heaven...
YOU SO MUCH!!! I will tell my mates!!!!❤️
They are smoking.😀
Esta versión de How Long es la que más me gusta, por ser en vivo y en un ambiente muy intimista. TREMENDA BANDA, TREMENDAS LAS CUATRO VOCES DEL CORO
Love this song superb
I bought this as a single back in the 70s when he fronted Ace. Brilliant? You bet.

Yes, you are totally right! Here in Brazil we have a doctor who called "fraudemic" this hysterical pandemic....
one of the great songs form the 70's for sure .. Love the groove. I am a drummer and nice feel
You really must see this man & his band in concert, utterly superb
I just listened to a bunch of versions of this song. I LOVE the use of organ in this one. And Paul Carrack sounds better than he did when younger. Real talent! And the sound is pretty good being played in someone's house. :-)
a b9ig THANK YOU from the organ player 😄😄😄
From the album Ace - Five A Side, awesome song!!!
Cool cool 😎😉
I always thought this was done by a "soul" group here in the U.S. One thing is true: they got a lot of soul!
it was..this is a cover.
@@innis52carra didn't you hear him say it was the first song he wrote. It was a hit for Ace.. his band. Anything done in America was a cover
