I'm madly in love with your use of sound effects. Hugely engaging while also being pleasant, the neat little movement jingle at 4:46 that played halfway a little lower pitch at 4:50, mmmmmmmmmmm that's the good stuff
American Dad! Is still the peak of Seth McFarlane's creations because instead of succumbing to the seasonal rot Family Guy has, the writers of that show leaned harder into the more surreal elements of the show, so it can have genuinely great Halloween specials like Rabbit Ears despite being almost 20 seasons long. It's also good at making episodes where the whole of the Smith family clearly genuinely care for each other despite Stan being a jerk or Roger being selfish and I think that's an element of early Family Guy that was vital for the formula to "work" long-term.
I find American Dad to be pretty spiteful and also pretty bad at satire. It feels like the audience isnt really being invited to take a critical look at american exceptionalism
I feel that The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon differences also just show how the general audience has changed. TBBT has been the height of the bad dad trope, Homer at his worst and the like. How Young Sheldon aired during the change to more Feel good media.

One thing about the running gag about Ross and Rachel (not) being on break that grinds my gears is that the first person to utter the phrase "we were on a break", with that exact wording, was Rachel herself. Then later whenever Ross or anyone says that they were on a break, she denies it. She truly is the worst character on the show.
I can understand why Jim wanted to seperate from Sheldon's character, my only real perception of BBT was its backlash online, and no matter how much him/the writers could possibly improve on the show/character, that perception of either isn't something anyone would want to be stuck doing. Once again, my only familiarity with Young sheldon was its ties to BBT, but from actually hearing about what the show is about, it sounds like a whole different can of beans. It actually sounds really rad and I wanna check it out, along with early FG, great coverage of these shows, thanks for making and sharing Ms. Nosurname💖💖💖
As a Melody-level Family Guy defender I would also like to add that, the longer the show goes on, the funnier the cutaway jokes featuring none of the main cast become. If the Family Guy writers just made, like, an animated sketch comedy show, it'd probably do pretty well tbh.
I actually watched The Big Bang Theory for several years and enjoyed it. I felt it got better as it went along. When I was younger and didn't know better, I enjoyed a good deal of the offensive humor in the early episodes. Years alter seeing them in reruns, I cringe wondering why I thought it was so funny for Howard to be imitating Raj in a racist fashion or imitating Steven Hawking in an ableist fashion. I used to not understand the hate for Big Bang, but upon reading criticisms aimed at media more generally regarding say, misogyny, racist humor, homophobic humor, etc with Big Bang often being an example. I began to understand some of it. I watched Young Sheldon it's entire run and loved it, more so than The Big Bang Theory. It benefits from being a single camera show with more dramatic heft compared to the more formulaic multi-camera sitcom set up of Big Bang. The characters are better and the character development is better and the humor is better and often funnier. It's actually really well written.
“I’m going to attempt to defend The Big Bang Theory.” Same person: “This show is both harmful to everyone and a reminder of how bad nerd culture used to be.” Honestly nicer than what I would have said.
i'll give you the other ones, they're pretty passable but those commentors were 100% right on calling out big bang theory, that shit stinks BAD and no ammount of convincing will unshit that doodoo.
Yeah, BBT has aged like milk and I really struggle to find many redeeming points that make the show worth watching given the blatant misogyny, bigotry and poor portrayal of autism among other generalized stereotypes that plague the show, though I will agree with Melody on Young Sheldon, it's a surprisingly decent spin off when Sheldon isn't the main focus and it's honestly a way better show than the one it's a spin off of lol

Great video, Melody, as always hahahaha Just one small thing... in TBBT (at around 13:44), Howard's mom was not voiced by Melissa Rauch, she was voiced by Carol Ann Susi. The actress passed away on 2014, I think, and there is even an episode dedicated to Howard's mom dying
I think it's really strange how Sheldon is the weakest part of both Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon and yet somehow the creators seem to think he's their best character. Like watching Big Bang Theory, you're rooting more for Howard's character growth and Leonard and Penny's relationship than you are for Sheldon in general. And in Young Sheldon you're rooting much more for Georgie and Mandy (so much so that they got their own show), Missy, George Snr and Meemaw then you do for Sheldon, despite the show literally revolving around him.
i’m so glad someone else is talking about how good young sheldon is. my mom started watching it, and at first i’d ignore it because id think “ew, young sheldon” but i ended up getting so invested in the episodes she’d watch around me i started to watch it with her. it’s actually really well done
I still maintain that Family Guy, at least post-cancellation, is at its peak when its just an animated sketch comedy show parodying real life. A lot of the cutaways without any of the cast, or jokes that are told to the audience by something like a TV or radio in the Griffin home, tend to be some of the best-written of the later seasons.
(JUST started the video) but it’s so interesting you say you don’t hear anyone say the office is good with no asterisks… i feel like everyone i talk to at school or work loves the office with no hangups about it
When you said "where Ross and Rachel really on a break?" I gripped my bed sheets, friends is like the only show my mom ever turns on the TV for and sometimes I watch it with her, that whole fight scene when Rachel found out about Ross sleeping with someone else has been seared into my brain
My mom was like that, then it went to Golden Girls, king of queens And now its true crime. For years And years And it just ramps up and becomes more pro cop but also still binge watches king of queens to keep a little bit of variety. Its a weird limbo rn.
I'm so glad there's someone else out there in my demographic who has the balls to say two thousands of people that they unironically enjoy big bang theory like I do. I don't feel so alone in this world. I'm tired of hiding this. bless.
At first, I didn't really like Young Sheldon just because of how bad I heard The Big Bang Theory was, but then I saw my sister watch it, and as I do with her shows, I joined in and realized how good it was. However, my mind will never be erased from that one meme I saw about how every sitcom family is just the Afton family from fnaf
When i was like 11. My parents asked me what we should watch on the tv and i saw that Friends was on. The episode that was playing was the one where one of the guys gets handcuffed to an office chair by a girl and she locks him in there. I remember my mom going: "Is this really for kids?" and i responded with "idk". I haven't touched the show since. also melody nosurname plush when?
When I was in middle school I took a broadcasting class (which was basically the class where we got to live stream the morning news to the entire school) and the teacher for that class has a Sheldon Cooper cardboard cutout that she keep in the classroom. The fact that the amount of people who have one is more than one is quite crazy to me I must say.
I was watching the previews and such (FOR ASPIRING MEMBERS, YOU GET PREVIEWS AS THEY GET MADE!) and I gotta say, you excelled yourself with the pacing on this one, couldn't keep my eyes away from it, excellent job Miss Is That Melody Nosurname.
when I hear people talking about how much they hate sitcoms like Family Guy or even the Simpsons just because they're crude and have too many lazy jokes, I'm reminded of the people who couldnt accept that William Shakespeare existed because his plays were too good to be written by a poor person also, my real life friend who hates both shakespeare and family guy with the same, weirdly high, amount of passion
I also have autism, I enjoyed the big bang theory growing up, though I look back on some of that enjoyment with cringe as I later realized how hateful the humor could be. I always had mixed feelings on Sheldon. He often made me laugh, but he's such a caricature of autistic people, that he often made me feel self-conscious in a way I didn't like.
13:44 sorry but i have to correct you there , howard's mom is voiced by carol ann susi , who sadly passed away hence they did an episode about her characters death , wich was actually very well done and made me cry at the time when it came out
Big Bang Theory was a show I used to watch with my grandma before she passed, I was always a big fan and I'm honestly happy to see something on it that isnt just hating it.
my father randomly encountered the guy that Brian Griffin was based on while in a bar, apparently he's not Seth's fursona but based on his RISD roommate
my parents love the big bang theory. my dad cycles through episodes every few months rewatching episodes he liked and skipping around episodes he doesnt
I don't like Sheldon as autistic representation. He's a self-centered control freak, and making him autistic-coded means the show is reinforcing the stereotype of autistic people being antisocial freaks, and suggesting that living with an autistic person is intrinsically more burdensome. Not only that, every time Sheldon is irritated, teased, or made uncomfortable, it's nothing more than a joke. As if autistic people are circus animals for the "normal" people. Then there's all the times Sheldon is portrayed as uncaring or heartless. Yes, as an autistic person I express sympathy differently from others, and lots of autistic people might be considered low-empathy. But we're not idiots! If someone got mad at me for something I said, like spoiling a book they were reading, I would _apologize._ It's not like the other characters are doing that neurotypical thing where they hide their emotions and force you to guess why they're upset, they are VERY vocal about their grievances with Sheldon. And that's not even getting into the multiple times Sheldon's said something sexist or racist, because that's what socially awkward people do I guess! Thanks a lot, Chuck Lorre, glad to know you think my existence is a joke.
I’m autistic and pretty much every stereotype shown from Sheldon is kinda true, from personal experience of other autistic people I know and myself. Obviously most of what he does and says is exaggerated a lot for comedy since it’s a sitcom of course. Still, several of his traits I’ve seen done similarly by other people on the spectrum. But you don’t have to be offended by it!
@@quangamershyguyyz7166 How is this any different from saying "it's just a joke" if a sitcom were racially insensitive? I very much will be offended by it, this shit set us back 100 years!

Rabbit ears is so damn good plus it has the chinches joke
It also has YEARS LONG recurring background plots (the golden poop saga)
Also american dad has semi-passable trans representation compared to family guy
"Good morning USA. I got the feeling that it's gonna be a wonderful day."

I cannot stand Big Bang Theory. It’s needlessly rude and horrible to everyone.

I repeat what ive been telling everyone here.
*_ITS BETTER IN ITALY._*
Oh good I’m not the only one who has a guilty pleasure for sitcoms

Yeah, BBT has aged like milk and I really struggle to find many redeeming points that make the show worth watching given the blatant misogyny, bigotry and poor portrayal of autism among other generalized stereotypes that plague the show, though I will agree with Melody on Young Sheldon, it's a surprisingly decent spin off when Sheldon isn't the main focus and it's honestly a way better show than the one it's a spin off of lol

I love you Melody but if this video is arguing The Big Bang Theory was actually good I swear to god. I watched that WHOLE THING cos of my dad and that series sucks SO BAD. Not only do I hate it, i DESPISE it, it's abhorrent, the humor, the story, the characters, there was at most one funny scene per episode but almost all of it was based in some kind of sexism, the couples most of the time felt SO forced, and what the hell was that ending? No, not even you will be able to redeem it

Just one small thing... in TBBT (at around 13:44), Howard's mom was not voiced by Melissa Rauch, she was voiced by Carol Ann Susi.
He's definitely not the weakest part of the Big Bang Theory. Howard is.
@CatDevz Agree to disagree

My mom was like that, then it went to Golden Girls, king of queens
And now its true crime. For years

And it just ramps up and becomes more pro cop but also still binge watches king of queens to keep a little bit of variety. Its a weird limbo rn.

At first, I didn't really like Young Sheldon just because of how bad I heard The Big Bang Theory was, but then I saw my sister watch it, and as I do with her shows, I joined in and realized how good it was. i hated big bang because my dad thought i was "like sheldon" simply for being autistic
