Or the time he fought a Khronate berserker to a standstill long enough for Jurgen to bake it with his melta, and maybe the next day killed a second(already wounded) one.

Cain is arguably the bravest man in 40k. Courage and bravery are about doing what you're afraid to do, no matter how much you don't want to. Cain may be terrified and not want to fight, but he fights anyways because he believes he has to.
That's a big party of why I love the guard. They fight all manner of terrifying, unspeakable horrors despite just being regular humans. It takes a lotto be willing to throw down with chaos daemons and whatnot.
@@Zekeziel-Reacts There's no better example than the Guardsman who placed himself between Horus and the Emperor. He knew had absolutely no chance, but he did it anyway.
@@Zekeziel-Reacts That's why I love Grimaldus, because he outright chastises a fellow Black Templar for dismissing the Guardsmen in Helsreach, pointing out the fact that they're fighting just as hard as the Astartes.
@@anzaca1 I heard that GW tried to retcon that by saying a Custodes did it instead and that why when alfabusa was making TTS, there was that bit about Santodes throwing himself in front of the emperor after the guardsman so as not to be outdone.
Ah yeah the cain books are very fun. Cain is honestly an exceptional comissar and fighter and the books have some levity you don't always have in 40k books. Sure he will mention how much he doesn't want to be in any given situation but he will step up and do what is necessary anyway. If he really was the coward he says he is he would have run away many times but he always does what is needed because he thinks of his longterm survival instead of just getting out of a battle. After all what good is running away from a battle when the planet is being overrun and all it would give you is being isolated?

He has used boltguns, but he prefers the lazpistol due to his extensive experience and established muscle memory with it.
