Kim, you did a great job of covering this event! I feel like you asked all the right questions and explained everything with just the right amount of detail!
Crazy that many people think the R3 is the better car. I like the R2 more, I think it’s the perfect car. I just wish it had the Plug on the rear left. And will there be Apple CarPlay?
not a better car.........Just more of a sports car.........Excites People..........And smaller for many like Me....Live alone....small Garage, ETC..............Paul
I'm so glad the R3 didn't leak ahead of time. It made for a really great surprise and added the hype that was needed to this event. The R2 is still my favorite and it's going to crush it in the market.
What this will do - is make the Tesla Model Y an even better product! Competition is always good. As a Tesla owner for 6 years, I booked the R2 within minutes of unveiling :) RJ's presentation had SOUL & a certain calm/comfort/confidence that was needed in addition to the thrill & excitement. Well done RIVIAN, well done! (I sincerely hope LUCID pulls thru, too).
Kim got so excited about the R2 having a bar option in the back. Also, the only influencer there who was color coordinated with the R3. Yes, the color pops.
Rivian owners going to be those guys messing up the supercharger slots. Why not put the charging port on both sides. That would be huge. Non rivian owners will even thank you
Got all the feels at the end of your video. I also agree RJ and team are a 180 from most EV startups and it’s refreshing AF. I also can confidently predict they’re here to stay because their authenticity and products are magnetic. Hope you get your R3X one day as do my R2 and I can’t wait to join the Rivi community.
Why not put the NACS charger on the rear left side so you can use at the Tesla superchargers? Putting it in the rear right side will make it harder to use at their chargers.
Rivian will be the number one EV brand soon. Everything about the company and products feels special. And amazing how few people know about this designed and made on America brand. Folks think it’s Chinese or German somehow.
Me and the wife have had our hearts set on 2025 Rav 4 Hybrid, now our heart has went to the R3X and may do a one year lease until the R3X is available.
2:25 Good direction with going with NACS charge port. But Rivian needs to put it on the LHD driverside. That way Rivians will park similar to other Teslas in a supercharger.
@@TroySavary cables are longer already in V4. But will be a problem with current V3 superchargers. Rivan R2/R3’s will back in and essentially take two spots in existing V3 stations in most cases
@@gNoj8956the new Rivians won’t be out until 2026, so Tesla has plenty of time to put longer cables on, but they work fine with other chargers. That location works well for curbside charging and these cars are going to be sold in Europe as well
@@gNoj8956 No, it won't take two spaces. Another vehicle with a similarly placed port can use the charger beside them. But even if ut did actually take two spots, that's Tesla's fault for opening the network to chase subsidies without having chargers with adequate cords. Cybertrucks also have trouble reaching at many Superchargers. I have yet to see a gas station that only worked properly with fuel ports in a specific spot on the vehicle.
I know its silly but I was the 1st to view and like this video! Lol... Another great video on another great EV. Thank you for years of entertainment and information Kim and hubby.
Huh! So you attended this reveal too! I spotted the usual EV TH-camrs in the crowd. You're all quite the insider clique now. I wish the best for Rivian: they're doing great work as a startup. Hope we see the R2 in the wild in a couple of years. As for the R3… I predict it will be a real contender, but no idea when it might hit the market.
I asked and asked again. They were hush hush about any potential dates on the 3 but did say the design is pretty final and they’ve already spent a long time on the vehicle.
I have a reservation in on the R2 and look forward to getting it so I can get back into a Rivian. The problem I see that has not been addressed is the fact that the charging port IS on the back right side of the car. This may not be a problem with Rivian's Charging stations (which are not widely available) but it WILL be a problem with the Tesla Charging network. The R2 and R3 would have to take up 2 spots to back in correctly to charge the car. I see a flaw in design or a modification needed at charging stations. Can't all companies just unify on where the charging ports will be on the cars / SUVs / Trucks already? This only slows down adoption.
R2 dimensions are roughly comparable to a Model Y. It's 3 inches taller and about an inch and a half shorter, with a slightly longer wheelbase. As a 2022 Model Y owner, I'm very interested in buying one 2-3 years after they are released.
Great walkthrough. So why does the R2 have a charge point on the passenger side? This is not consistent with Tesla and will cause parking/charging stagger issues at V2/V3 Superchargers with the cord on the rear driver's side.
I wish you can lower the vehicle as the rear trunk is too high of the ground for a senior dog to jump in and out i would love to have this with air suspension as my family is me my wife 18 months old daughter and a 11 years old 130lbs German shepherd
RJ confirmed in his interview with MKBHD that the $45,000 version has an approx. 270 mile range. Not a huge deal, but still not 300+. Either way, it’s an exciting EV option and I hope it is hugely successful (and profitable) for Rivian 😊
hope they get the charge port on the correct side when it actually comes out. It will make everyones lives much more enjoyable tesla and rivian alike at super chargers.
I want these guys to succeed. At the very least it's competition which will keep things moving forward. Plus I just like the look and options over Teslas
They also announced stop to building new factory in Georgia. That should be bigger news than something to be built in old factory two years from now. Not to mention getting rid of 10% of workforce just like when they want to build more vehicles. Yeah that makes sense. We shall see if they have a future or not.
Big question is what will be the comparison between 2026 REFRESHED version of model Y in terms of PRICE, range, amenities vs 2026 Rivian R2. $45K is the base price for RWD R2, currently model Y RWD cost $43,990. and Model YP costs $52,490. (plus qualify for $7500 fed tax credit). My guess is R2 dual motor will start closer to $59K and trimotor at $69K. if fed tax credit does not apply or only $3750 (half) credit like what the current R1S/R1T - that puts the pricing disadvantage up to $10K or more.
Yeah. I'm an owner of a Jeep Cherokee 2015 and I want to get a Rivian R2 as my next car. The Jeep Avenger is too small for me and the Recon is just too Wrangler look alike. Jeep is working in a Cherokee EV but not sure if will be out by the time the R2 is out.
Yes they do OTA updates and have semi autonomous driving. Even my VW does, just not as well as Rivian and Tesla. Lots of car companies have the level 2 Autopilot driving which is great on trips. It’s not as impressive anymore as when it was first on my Model S
I think the R2 looks fairly similar to an Explorer, so I reserved one. The R2 is in the wheelhouse of what I want for size. I’m hoping it will get a tow rating of 5,000 pounds. None of my trailers are more than that. The R3 is pretty amazing though and especially the R3X. I wild guess it around $65k. I bet the base R3 will be around $40k and hopefully they will be able to get them in production fairly quickly after the R2. I think the R2 will do pretty well, but I think the R3 will do better. The Jeep Recon is going on sale at the end of 2024 and they might have some overlap, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in Jeep doing a full BEV the first time. A lot of legacy brands seem to struggle with their first model, however Stellantis has many other brands that have EV’s including the Jeep Avenger in Europe. Ford for some reason is not selling the European Explorer in the US, but at some point will sell one here and lots of other brands will have mid size crossovers to compete with Rivian. I was just looking at the Kia EV9 and Honda Prologue yesterday in case I was needing to replace my ID.4 at some point and 2026 seems like a good time to do it
I think Tesla should take some pointers from this event.. seems way more successful of a format. People are genuinely blown away. The cars look great.
