I've been searching for this song for 15 years without knowing the name of it, from it being a song that it could play on my keyboard as a child. I'm now absolutely in tears.
Funny enough, I found it due to its use in videogames. A character in Earthbound plays a short nod to Dvorak Symphony No. 9 on his trumpet, and after recognized it I went on a rampage to find what it referenced and finally found the song. My suitemate later died laughing to my emotional reaction because he heard the symphony in Civilization V all the time, but had his headphones on.
It has been adapted to a Chinese folk song and the name of that song is "missing home"...The symphony reminds me of my home and that afternoon when my father firstly introduced this symphony and the story of the composer to me. I didn't quite understand either the music or the composer back then. Time passes by and I am away from home now... I don't know what else to say but tears are already in my eyes...
A wonderful expression of longing for one's former home and hope for one's new home; tears at the rising sun, smiles at the setting sun. True music is the wind in the trees; this is right there. Perhaps this is why the wind instruments are so central to the enveloping music as it is lifted off the pages written under Dvorak's hand, guided by Von Karajan. The First Peoples of the great new world continent were in spirit what this work of art conveys.
Its about home...But I read on website of Dvořák that he suffered from agoraphobia. He was afraid of open spaces, town squares, the noisy streets.... His illness agoraphobia was acute when he got older...People who suffer from agoraphobia are afraid to leave their home...but it seems he was good traveler...They invited him to Vienna, to England and America. He liked it he liked England and America. He liked the beach in England, swimming women, scotish music in the beach.
Stunningly beautiful photography... my father is from Iowa and always was in awe of this piece.. and said that he could just close his eyes and see the prairie fields of his boyhood home when listening to this. Dvorak, he claimed, wrote this inspired by Iowa. For me this piece brings back my father to me.
This music is really Wonderful and Touching!! I'm from the Czech republic and I'm really proud that such genius like Antonín Dvořák was from my country!
ive recently started listening to symphonies. and turns out its been what i was looking for all these years.. beautiful, subtle, quite music... symphonies and Royksopp and what i listen to when iwant to imagine.. or just think
quite simply the best performance of this enchanting piece..there was a very close bond between orchestra and karajan by this stage... so apparent here
I remember this being played at my Grandad's funeral when we entered the Church. I don't cry but I got so emotional when I heard this even now I miss him so much he was such a kind and funny person.
Fabelhaft, Stupendous, Superb, Eximius, Bellissimo, Fantasties....A Single ray of Sunshine breaks through the dark ominous thunderclouds and lift's man's mood. In the darkest of circumstance hope still springs eternal...
It was in 1983 when I met a young couple from Czechoslovakia. They confided in me that they were emigrating from their country and were in my hometown while waiting for the UN to resettle them in Canada or Australia. Upon hearing this, I offered them a room in my house which they gladly accepted. One night, we were sitting and joking when I put this record on. The room went silent and my dear Jindra and Peter started to cry. In silence. A month later they were in Australia. I love you guys!
this is awesome. I just listen it in opportunity of die our the best czech person, Mr. Havel... And I have to say, we are the nation of the biggest personalities in the world. And I´m proud about it.
This is one of the best recordings I've heard of this piece. I studied it ( and played it) , so once you've listened to it over 50 times you can tell the quality of the performance... and this is really good!
Wow, the english horn solo is probably my 2nd favorite orchestral solo of all time (the opening bassoon solo in the Rite of Spring gets #1). I appreciate you putting this up.
Shinsekai Yori (From The New World), ended after many many months and this song has been a constant in the anime and in the final episode it plays once more for the last time and I have such a nostalgic feel now about it. I haven't heard this piece until I saw that anime and wow is it beautiful. I'm thankful for being introduced to this song and I shall never forget it and shall listen to it many many times more.
I wish i was in that hall,my first "heart" enrapturing experience was a hall such has this.......................i wonder if in this modern contemporary time, great souls will emerge to give humanity great, beautiful peice such as this.
0:44-4:50 is a song I’ve heard called Non C’e Piu. I played this in fifth grade and had forgotten who wrote this wonderful piece and now I’ve heard it again. Nostalgia
that's what music is, speaking for one's soul in the most pure way. people play it with effort, with their true heart, with the love of humanity, not just stereotyped computer sound. shall one understand the true meaning of music, one will love nature and understand his own soul since then. it is really sad to see less and less people can appreciate the beauty of classical music. whatever, classical music is immortal and is tolerant over time, in contrast to the so called trend of pop or hip hop
I came here after finishing Shinsekai Yori as well. I think this was one of the most powerful songs in it; it's so melancholic and kind of mournful, yet also beautiful and touching. It fit very well with that show's themes. And, oh, it was in Mawaru Penguindrum as well? It's been a long time since I watched that, but still, CREYS T_T
The tale of how i found out about this song.... ever left the ps3 open b4 heading 2 nap? left burnout paradise on (ps3), and went to bed ( did my business ), i felt soooo relaxed after it, and strait after tht, this " stand by song " came up, volume was perfectly low, and it was dusk, just as tht deep dark purple colour shined into my room through the thin curtains, i was under my thick blankets enjoying peace, and quite ive never been more relaxed... fell in love with da music THE END
@NYCBG ... (continued) but on the othher hand feeling anxious about the future and gloomy about having left their dear families (for good) ... I can clearly imagine myself crying too upon hearing Dvorak's Largo. ... Hope those two are doing well in Australia. Wish them all the best. ... Hey, and now they can come back to visit Czecho-Slovakia anytime they like.
I saw one episode of that anime then stopped. Afterwards I heard this piece in my class and I felt like I heard this somewhere. Randomly picked up Shinsekai Yori again and I remembered I heard the piece from the anime. Good piece, good anime.
My mother made me listen to this orchestra as a child! is with them that I decided to become a cellist! The stroke of lightning was listening to the "creatures of prometeo" by Ludwig van Beethoven.
If it wasn't for Asura's Wrath I would of never heard of this beautiful music... Thank you Capcom and Cyber Connect 2 for such a wonderful interactive movie... I MEAN GAME!
I remember this music from a tv commercial in the Uk adverising Hovis bread and since then this music for me has been the Hobis theme simply beautiful.

Nikibugs I know that feelings , congrats !!!
+Nikibugs find song from midi is same.. - -'
Congrats! How did you search the song? Just listen to symphony one by one?
Funny enough, I found it due to its use in videogames. I know this feeling...congrats!
This piece captures the essence of waking up in a mellow spring morning and seeing the sun rise between the trees
my favorite classical music piece of all time

I am moved to tears every single time I hear this piece, because of its miraculous beauty,
it's worth to live just to listen this
Unlike many people here, I'm listening to this because my father played it for me when I was a child and it's very nostalgic.
My dad sends me links to amazing music as well.
He brought me here. 💖🎶
Gosh, there's something about this movement that just gives me the chills! Such a beautiful piece=)
I've listened to it about 6 times and I have tears every time I watch it. It's amazing. That is the simplest way I know to describe it.
Simply one of the greatest pieces of music ever.

this music brings me home in the real and virtual sense... a beautiful mix of peace, serenity, and joy, blissful life.
Quite possibly the most incredible piece of music ever composed. Dvorak reached above genius factor.
This music is really Wonderful and Touching!! I'm from the Czech republic and I'm really proud that such genius like Antonín Dvořák was from my country!

One of the best dozen symphonies maybe ... It has long been one of my favorites.

Two masterpieces: One of film production, and the other of Dvorak.

It's really beautiful, gave me tears in eyes.., I would like to listen it live..
This is one of the best recordings I've heard of this piece. I studied it ( and played it) , so once you've listened to it over 50 times you can tell the quality of the performance... and this is really good!

Thank you Antonín Dvorak! I love this melancholic piece*
Wow, the english horn solo is probably my 2nd favorite orchestral solo of all time (the opening bassoon solo in the Rite of Spring gets #1). I appreciate you putting this up.

4:53 is my favourite part in the whole symphony. I always think of winter, because it sounds so cold and desolate. I can't help but shed a tear.
That oboe solo is one of the best sections of music I have ever heard.
Uma doçura melancólica que nos transporta aos sentimentos saudosos do autor. Dvorak é simplesmente genial...
Its so wonderful, yet sad. I love this kind of music! : )

W is not capable of being part of such beautiful music, or for that, anything so beautiful. his black soul won't allow it.
I saw one episode of that anime then stopped. Afterwards I heard this piece in my class and I felt like I heard this somewhere. Randomly picked up Shinsekai Yori again and I remembered I heard the piece from the anime. Good piece, good anime.
